Newcastle are reportedly keen on Real Valladolid winger Gonzalo Plata. The 22-year-old is in Ecuador’s starting eleven against Qatar today to kick off the 2022 World Cup. Despite only turning 22 earlier this month, Plata already has 30 caps for Ecuador.

Journalist Dean Jones, in Give Me Sport, touts Plata to star on the world stage while claiming Newcastle rate him highly. Brighton, who have three of Plata’s international teammates on board, are also tracking the winger.

Plata joined Valladolid this past summer moving from Portuguese giants Sporting CP for around £2.5m. He spent two seasons in Lisbon with 38 appearances and 8 goal contributions. He is an academy product of Ecuador’s Independiente, which is where Brighton star Moises Caicedo got his start.

Plata has continued his upward trajectory this season with 2 assists in his 10 appearances in Spain. While two injuries have limited him, there is little the 5’10” speedster can’t do on the flanks.

The left footer is primarily deployed on the right where he can cut inside. While his pace and dribbling skill often catch the eye, he can pick out a pass and also is very tenacious off the ball.

Plata is one of a number of up-and-coming stars that Newcastle should have their eye on in this World Cup. He certainly fits the bill for what Newcastle are looking for in a wide attacker. Though he only just joined Valladolid in the summer with a contract to 2027.

One thing about Qatar that I find funny, is that they paid for a load of Moldavian weightlifters, gave them citizenship (you can’t get Qatari citizenship_, and then one of them won medals at the Olympics!
So Qatar won the medals, not Moldovan, Sadly I don’t think they’re still Qatari passport holders.

Well I see the Bard is excited with all the material for him to produce some inspirational stuff.
Not gonna lie but I’m yet to be offended whatsoever by his rhymes. Don’t know what’s gonna be the hardest to wait in earnest for is his new rhyme (sounds like mid-week gonna be some effort and many man hours typing/pencilling/scribbling away in huge excitement) or the next Toon game we play.

I watched the BBC coverage of the WC and was very surprised that their team led by Lineker actually highlighted a lot of the problems about the Quatar World Cup. I was very surprised.
(the same issues will probably be levelled at the Toon in the coming months).

Qatar make a mockery out of sport because of money.
I’m glad the PIF are approaching things in a totally different way with NUFC. I hope Saudi are making notes of how Qatar are doing it the wrong way with all the negative press they’re creating and ensure they understand why and ensure they do their thing in the right manner. They’ve made a great start with us.

How is that Munster, I’m pissed off with the corruption that has allowed Qatar, a complete non entity in sporting history, no infrastructure or world heritage sites, basically a city state of a country that has bought a world cup. What has that got to do with Newcastle fans?

Clint, that is correct – they did successfully defend the predecessor to the World Cup and therefore we allowed to keep the trophy forever.
Sadly the trophy was nicked in 1994 and has never been recovered.

Pug I’m not going to have a ruck with a guy like you, no more than I wud with the vast vast majority here. I think a small handful here are utterly stupid and if they don’t like me, I’m good with that. I wouldn’t even think of putting you in that category but if you find me objectionable, that’s life, I hope we don’t fall out about it.
By the way I’ve been watching a lovely fishing guy on u tube and he’s a dog trainer too, with lovely vids on the subject. Goes under the name gundog and fly. Have a look, I’m sure you would enjoy it.

I have an update on what's happening with my treatment for prostate cancer.

Last week, my oncologist called me late in the day and said he thought it was best to terminate my treatment with radium 223 dichloride because it was having such a negative effect on my health - specifically my digestive system.

I had completed 3 of the planned 6 infusions.

They had looked at the bone scans and three CAT scans I had early last week, and they showed no signs of the cancer spread being slowed or stopped: in fact, it was continuing to spread and my PSA account continued to rise.

The only treatment left now is to go back and have another bout of chemotherapy with docetaxel being the medication used.

I understand this will be a 7-month job with 10 sessions 3 weeks apart - almost double my first chemo treatment in Apil 2017, when I has 6 treatmnts.

The problem I have is that I'm in a very poor physical state right now, due to my digestive system being basically torn apart by the radium 223.

The radium 223 has leaked into my digestive system and caused me to have severe diarrhea, nausea, and heartburn, and it was (is) very serious.

They said it was too dangerous to proceed with the radium 223 treatment, with little benefit being shown.

I am also suffering from severe exhaustion, basically, because I have zero testosterone, and all the treatments I've had for the cancer, have further lessened the energy available to me.

It reminds me of the saying that if cancer doesn’t kill you - the treatment will (laugh).

It will probably take up to 8 weeks to get back to a physical state where I can start chemotherapy, and that's where I am now, but the cancer continues to spread in the bones.

I've also been put in touch with the dietitian from UNC Healthcare, who will help me get back my health - she is very helpful.

So that's where it stands it's been quite a journey over 12 years and I think I've had almost every treatment available.

It has really taken a toll on my body and on my energy, but that's where it stands and obviously, I'll do the best I can in the upcoming months with chemo and hope I can get through it.

It is as it is - and another challenge in life.
