Newcastle are reportedly keen on Real Valladolid winger Gonzalo Plata. The 22-year-old is in Ecuador’s starting eleven against Qatar today to kick off the 2022 World Cup. Despite only turning 22 earlier this month, Plata already has 30 caps for Ecuador.
Journalist Dean Jones, in Give Me Sport, touts Plata to star on the world stage while claiming Newcastle rate him highly. Brighton, who have three of Plata’s international teammates on board, are also tracking the winger.
Plata joined Valladolid this past summer moving from Portuguese giants Sporting CP for around £2.5m. He spent two seasons in Lisbon with 38 appearances and 8 goal contributions. He is an academy product of Ecuador’s Independiente, which is where Brighton star Moises Caicedo got his start.
Plata has continued his upward trajectory this season with 2 assists in his 10 appearances in Spain. While two injuries have limited him, there is little the 5’10” speedster can’t do on the flanks.
The left footer is primarily deployed on the right where he can cut inside. While his pace and dribbling skill often catch the eye, he can pick out a pass and also is very tenacious off the ball.
Plata is one of a number of up-and-coming stars that Newcastle should have their eye on in this World Cup. He certainly fits the bill for what Newcastle are looking for in a wide attacker. Though he only just joined Valladolid in the summer with a contract to 2027.

Unfortunately you have become the object of Mort’s obsession, Unfortunately, posters like The Last Jedi, Zorro, blade user etc etc, become more persistent the more they are ignored. This is the way.

Comment #284Raj, they have been pictured together a few times before – at the 2018 WC and at the Joshua vs Usyk fight earlier this year. Is the picture you are referring to from today or in the past?
I personally have no issue with Saudi bidding for the WC, anyone should be allowed to bid, they would not be my choice of host and I suspect lessons will be learned about hosting a WC in the desert by the time this WC ends. Personally I think 2030 will be too soon for another WC in the middle east.
To be fair though it is not even the weirdest bid. South Korea proposed a bid in association with North Korea!! Don’t really fancy staying in a hotel Pyongyang. N Korea is home to the second largest stadium in the world though, holds about 114,000 people.

And the FA bkeat on about supporting grass roots football.
The jobs not worth that sort of money
England players could receive £500,000 in bonuses from the FA if they lift the World Cup trophy next month, while Southgate would also receive a bonus of about £3m on top of his £6m-a-year contract

#284 them bonuses should go to charity or grass roots football if they were to pay them sums quoted out. Money in football is ruining the game IMO.

Comment #287Loch, we were discussing that the other day, the England team always gives the money they get from international football to charity. Not sure if that applies to Southgate as well though.

Comment #290Just imagining the rule of attending a WC in North Korea…
1. You are not allowed to bring any of the following into the country – brooks, films, music, cameras, any device that connects to the internet etc.
2. You are not allowed to contact anyone from outside N. Korea for the duration of your stay.
3. Upon arrival if you not already be sporting one of the 28 government-approved haircuts then a haircut will be provided immediately. This is not optional.
4. To assist with a stress-free trip all tourists will be assigned a “companion” who will be present with you night and day.

I have a great respect for you as a poster so I can only apologise for a major part in this evening’s painful reading for you and many others…
An NUFC blog should not be like what has happened this evening. But I’ve managed to get myself embroiled in an anti-English, anti-British debates and I know I should have ignored it all as it’s mainly baiting of good folk. But if it goes unchecked it’s going to carry on. We should never have such sort of resentment against our history and heritage on an NUFC blog. However, in the scheme of things I whole heartedly apologise to posters such as yourself that come on here to post football chat and have had to wade through all the disgusting and unnecessary posts tonight.
After the last month, I’ve stood by my heritage, my patriotic stance against a certain poster that comes on here to upset the apple cart. I’m going to do my best to stay out of it all moving forward and hopefully others can stand strong and call those that are against our establishment, monarchy and history. Keep the hatred off here and all will be be OK. An NUFC blog is not a platform to spew absolute hatred against England and the UK?
Again apologies JohnJ and all the others that come on here to talk all things NUFC and other footballing matters.
Good night
Onwards and upwards

The WC FF is bound to take a while to update, it’s not a computer system! They’ve got 100,000 migrant workers manually calculating and entering the scores.
Unfortunately there will be delays and errors, many of these workers lost a finger or two on the stadium build.
You should know your score before the next WC starts in 4 years time.

It would be a lot cheaper to use FF auto pick instead of paying Gareth all that money. Half time team talk could be an algorithm delivered Stephen Hawkings style.
