Newcastle Retain Serious Interest In Top Summer Target – Report

Reports have varied on what Newcastle’s intentions are for the January window. There appears to be fervent intent on adding some youngsters to the ranks, especially at right-back and in the midfield.

Players like Velez Sarsfield midfielder Maximo Perrone and Leeds right-back Cody Drameh have hit the headlines often in recent weeks. Neither would take up a squad place and, while ones for the future, would provide cover for injuries.

If one of the big fish becomes available, Newcastle may pounce. Leicester City’s James Maddison could be one to watch with contract talks seemingly not progressing at the King Power. The England international will have just 18 months left on his contract when January rolls around.

Football Insider is reporting that Watford’s Joao Pedro remains in the picture. Newcastle had a bid of £30m plus add-ons knocked back in the summer before going all in on record signing Alexander Isak. Talks for Pedro were advanced enough to get a patented ‘here we go’ from Fabrizio Romano. One of the rare times the transfer guru missed the mark.

Pedro signed a new deal in September to 2028 which certainly complicates matters. If Newcastle want the versatile attacker, they will have go beyond what they were willing in August. That seems very unlikely to occur in January.

The form of Miguel Almiron has also lessened the need for a wide forward on the right. The Paraguayan has emerged as Newcastle’s leading goal threat and has blossomed under the tutelage of Eddie Howe.

Didn’t we end up buying Izak instead of him … think we’ll go for attacking mid and winger before another striker

Southgate has become proper miserable, like the footy his teams serve up.

Should have let Eddie take the team for the WC, might have had a squeak.

When Brazil are faves with an ageing defence and Casamiro, Fred and Paqueta as a midfield you know its a poor quality WC.

We would have a chance with a competent manager.

Mathematics is a subject regarding numbers and symbols. A whizz is someone who is good at that.

Northdoor is the opposite of Southgate. 😀 slow day…

Because I didn’t bother reading the scoring system before entering my team I panicked yesterday as the game was ending and subbed out estupinan briefly thinking that cleansheets didn’t score. Still, it’s all just a bit of fun, eh?

    Vask,
Shambles mate, it didn’t even have the scorers on the score sheet page, let alone the assisters or who’s in with a shout of the bonus. They’ve not allocated any budget to the game at all.

    Vask,
I can’t see this game being popular when you don’t even know your score before having to make subs, the apparent loopholes in the transfers and wild cards. I’m not sure why they’ve bothered.

Mort – oh dear. Predictable stuff mind.
Surprised if no one turns up today wrapped in Rainbow flags. Rainbow hats etc etc.

Fair play if folk want to take a big risk for a worthy cause. Good luck to them, but they have been warned. When the football is finished no one will give a fcuk again about what happens in Qatar.

You could argue that the football in Qatar has highlighted issues, which is actually helpful in improving the situation. Weird eh.

    Check,

Re Southgate. For heavens sake give the guy a break.
No wonder he looks and sounds miserable in his recent interviews.
He’s there to talk football, but not so the interviewers. They’re getting him to pronounce on LGBT rights in Quatar, what colour armband his captain should wear, deaths of migrant workers, last minute bans on alcohol, etc etc.
He’s not a politician, adept in the art of deflecting the question, he’s a football manager, proud of his country who is trying to cut through all the political cr*p, in order to give the millions of England fans something to feel good about.
If we fail to get out of the group stage, you’ll have plenty of time to criticise him (this won’t happen by the way). Till then why not just concentrate on the football, support the team and the manager.
