Gareth Southgate Protecting Wilson As He Sits Out Today’s Session

England boss Gareth Southgate is determined to protect Newcastle striker Callum Wilson. According to The Athletic, the 30-year-old is on a different program from the rest of the squad.

Eddie Howe implemented something similar for his star striker after his latest injury in September. Southgate will take precautions to help ensure Wilson remains fit during this World Cup.

Wilson is one of many England players that didn’t participate in today’s session. Southgate also rested his starting eleven while Leicester City’s James Maddison has yet to train with the squad after suffering a minor knee injury before the break.

Wilson came on for Harry Kane in yesterday’s 6-2 win over Iran. Kane was limping after the match but is reportedly fine today. Callum provided the assist on Jack Grealish’s goal in the 90th minute. Kieran Trippier played the entire match which had 24 minutes of added time.

Next up for England is the United States, who drew 1-1 against Wales in their opener yesterday. The Americans dominated the first half before Wales manager Rob Page tweaked his tactics bringing striker Bournemouth striker Kieffer Moore on for Leeds’ Daniel James after the break.

The tactical change resulted in a much better half for Wales, who equalized on a converted penalty from Gareth Bale. United States boss Gregg Berhalter opted against bringing young Dortmund star Gio Reyna on despite the 20-year-old declaring he is 100% fit and ready to go.

    Wor B,
Thanks for the 21st century advice, but I’m not sure the rest of this motley crew I work with sitting round the PC want to read what Mister Tuff gets up to when left alone and allowed on his laptop :grittedteeth: emoji

Wor B, understandable. She would have been an upgrade on Liz Truss though.

Magic, agree very good WC so far it is hard to compare one to another, unfortunately I am too young to have seen 66, first WC I vaguely really was Spain 82, first I truly remember was Mexico 86

Even though i always support an underdog in sport i really can`t see another shock in this game, even though the French have a lot of injuries i feel they will have to much class in their locker for the Aussie lads, my prediction France to win 2-0.

Evening all, watched the game here in Jordan after work and was really happy with the forward play. A few stray passes that we need to eliminate and still not looking assured at the back but I was surprised there were no worked corners (similar to we’ve seen at NUFC like Wilson goal vs villa and Bruno’s header), the emphasis seemed to be just get a decent ball into the box. Nowt wrong with that but I thought we may have a few routines to mix it up. Maybe we’re just saving them for the USA games.

Huge parties going on over here after Saudi won. Flags flying and cars honking. May take a look out with my toon top on

Btw in the build up awful commentating yet again.

Commentator 1: (paraphrased) “lots of players slipping on this surface in the first games”
Commentator 2’s reply: “it is very difficult to gauge these things but there seems to be a lot more French supporters”

WTF – they are not even listening to each other!

France seem to be plagued by injuries in this world cup, surly not another world cup shock, i still expect the french to prevail by 2 clear goals.

Can’t wait for Kuol to come on and score a better.

Pundits haven’t a clue about the ozzy team, they didn’t give them a chance. But they’re good, their results over the past year have proven that.

Aah well Kuol was probably never going to come on if they were still winning 0-1 with 25 mins left.

It is interesting that the BBC wants to plant its flag on climate change at half time. Why not invite Greta on?

How did the BBC get to the tournament? Did they row there on a recycled/reclaimed boat?

As you all know I don’t watch a lot of CL football but every time I’ve ever watched that Mbappe he’s been atrocious, he’s obviously not ad he’s talked about as one of the best in the world. Don’t know what all the fuss is about.

    Clint.

Why is your statement ‘Wales hate England’ extraordinary ?
For a start you are saying that every Welsh person hates every English person. Think about that.
Secondly, if you have ever been to a rugby international between the two countries, or a football match between Wales and England, sure before and after the game there’s plenty of banter between the fans, but hate ??? I don’t think so.
You come across as a proud Geordie.
Yet, if you were born in the north east of England, you are English, make no mistake about it.
Not only that, but you are also British, and European.
You are as part of the history of this country, with its failures and its successes, it’s triumphs and it’s disasters, as is anyone else born in England, no matter where in England they were born.
