Garang Kuol made his World Cup debut for Australia tonight as the Socceroos were soundly defeated by defending champions France 4-1. Kuol came on in the 73rd minute for Craig Goodwin as part of a double switch.
The match started auspiciously for the Aussies as they took the lead through Goodwin in the 9th minute. France soon found their form with a header from Adrien Rabiot to level the match in the 27th minute.
Olivier Giroud put France ahead after Rabiot played provider with a pass into the box that was slotted into the net by the former Gunner. The half ended with France holding the 2-1 advantage.
In the 68th minute, Kylian Mbappe added France’s third with a header. Soon after, it was Mbappe’s turn to provide for Giroud as his cross was headed home by the striker to make it 4-1.
It was at that point that Kuol came into the fray along with fellow Sudanese refugee Awer Mabil. Despite being up by three goals, France pushed for another which meant Kuol had few opportunities to impress on his debut.

You can be pretty sure that Qatar’ll not be happy to watch NUFC do well in the Prem and I wouldn’t be surprised to see some Qatari organisation be the next owner of either ManU or Liverpool.
But, I wonder how long it’d take the EPL to approve any Qatari involvement.

How sanctimonious
Just slightly uncomfortable ?
Squirming now
Still they get their ducks in a row when it comes to KSA but perhaps not Qatar as they enjoy the high life there and the associated salaries
Football presenter Gary Lineker has said he and the BBC should have spoken out more about human rights issues during the World Cup in Russia in 2018.
Lineker, who is fronting BBC coverage of this year’s World Cup in Qatar, said: “I think we were sportswashed four years ago when we were in Russia.”
He added: “I do look back four years and feel slightly uncomfortable.”

Comment #45Biggest piss take in history.
Not even clever
No-one associated with NUFC or our owners are even remotely associated with this nonsense.
Portugal forward Cristiano Ronaldo is torn between moving to Newcastle United or Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr following the 37-year-old’s exit from Manchester United by mutual consent. (Marca – in Spanish)

Comment #47“OK, Newcastle may be the so-called ‘richest football club on planet earth’. But no fewer than seven Premier League sides splashed out more than their £120 million investment last summer.
What’s more, Newcastle have had to make do without the man who accounted for 50 per cent of that summer spend; £60 million record-signing Alexander Isak restricted to just three outings through injury.”

Comment #48I can’t agree with Assassins Inc assessment on young Kuol. By the time he got on the pitch Australia were run ragged and in damage limitation mode, hardly the ideal situation for a pacy young forward used to seeing lots of the ball. I thought his acrobatic interception and mazy little run looked decent, Australia simply didn’t have enough of the ball to give him any chance to shine. It might be a bit different against Tunisia.

Comment #49Harry Kane scan on Ankle.
Big chance for Callum, if he’s actually fit himself. Training indoors, doing conditioning rather than with team. Hmmmm.
Rashford will probably replace Kane, Callum is proper fragile.
I wince everytime he sprints.

Comment #50Somebody said on here last night that Real Madrid are offering Ronaldo a six month deal, I asked if that was official and he just said it’s on the rumour mill. Sounds feasible if Benzema’s injury is bad.

They’re basically playing without the spine that won the WC 4 years ago. I reckon they’ll struggle to get forward against a more technical & pressing team. Lovely to watch in the final 3rd mind. The Dembele is a good player, but he’s no Miggy 😆

Comment #69Apart from Qatar a they’re gash, the MENA teams have done well. KSA obviously an excellent result and Tunisia got a very good draw against Denmark. See how Morocco get on against Croatia. Croat team must be ageing now unless they’ve brought some youngins through. Should be a comfortable win for them anyway I reckon.

Comment #73Dembélé was really a satisfaction yesterday. Far more mature than four years ago ( in fact even one year ago, it seem working with Xavi got a good effect on him ).
I still amazed by what he can do with BOTH feet.

A team playing higher with more pressure will be in great danger… give space in the depth to Dembélé and Mbappé, could be lethal.
The true weakness we seen yesterday are Tchouaméni who is perhaps a bit green for a World Cup and our defense, especially on the right flank.
Be sure those who want to take our crown noticed it with interest.

Comment #76Talked for a bit on Matty Longstaff with an Aberdeen fan yesterday, apparently his attitude is shocking, seems to think he’s the dogs horlix by all accounts, that would tie in with him not even starting for Colchester, needs to shape up quickly if that’s the case.
