For Newcastle to sign a player next month, excluding any under 21, they’ll have to pare down some of the current squad. Eddie Howe already has one player in Mark Gillespie who is not in the 25-man squad.
Goalkeeper Lori Karius was signed on an emergency basis in September due to Karl Darlow’s ankle injury. Darlow has returned and made the bench in the final two league matches before the break with Karius getting the call as the backup in the Carabao Cup win against Palace.
Karius’ contract reportedly expires at the end of the year. So we could see the German let go despite his seamless transition into the squad. He’s always seen smiling away in training and post-win photographs. Hopefully, Howe triggers his extension to the end of the season.
Matty Longstaff returns from his loan spell with Colchester in January. The midfielder returned from a hamstring injury for a cameo over the weekend in a 3-0 win over Doncaster. The local lad’s contract runs out in the summer with little hope of him signing another extension.
The Chronicle is reporting that both Ryan Fraser and Matt Ritchie are attracting attention ahead of the winter window. Fraser has found playing time difficult with the resurgence of both Miguel Almiron and Jacob Murphy. Ritchie has barely featured this season and is currently getting close to returning from a calf injury.
Portsmouth boss Danny Cowley recently declared he would be thrilled to add Ritchie to his ranks though doubted a move for the winger was feasible. The Chronicle believes numerous Premier League and Championship clubs are coveting Fraser.
Howe would likely be open to allowing Ritchie to leave. The 33-year-old is in the final year of his contract. Interestingly, Matt has taken charge of youth training sessions during his injury layoff as he hopes to earn coaching badges.
Allowing Fraser to leave is a more delicate subject. He is in his prime and while inconsistent and prone to injury, has significant value on the pitch. He can cover both flanks and Howe would need a replacement before allowing him to leave.
There are plenty of outgoing decisions up in the air as the winter window approaches. We could see some difficult but necessary moves made if the two Mattys depart the club. It would also be sad to see Loris leave without making his NUFC debut.

Comment #5The Taco Taker seems a decent sort
But last night Coming Home and to a lesser extent Mort
Abused and hounded him relentlessly
For no good reason that I could see
What has he done? What has he said?
To warrant the stuff that I’ve just read
It was started by Fenham a few weeks back
Now some other WAG’s have continued to attack
Coming Home complains that posters get chased
Yet comes on here completely shit faced
To abuse a few and try to force them to leave
Is a decimated blog what he’s trying to achieve?
Adamn, Jail, Munster and TDS,
Dazzler, now Taco and even Lesh
Have received his treatment upon this forum
Like plenty of others have done before ’em
He’ll say, that’s rich Bard, you’ve targeted a few
And yes I have, that much is true
There was Tom and Mund, who wanted a scrap
Then Fenham and the joker in a baseball cap
Each one had offered someone a brawl
So I happily took the piss out them all
But howay man, Coming Home
Leave those other lads alone
They just come on here for a bit of craic
And don’t need a target on their back
If you need a victim or someone to rag
Take it out on that gobshite, NY Mag

My scratcher will feel like heaven tomorrow night, especially after a few bevvies watching England do the yanks.

Comment #7Because I’ve mentioned Mort he’ll now reply
As he did when he was called The Last Jedi
On such occasions he always flips
And bombards his accuser with childish quips
I used to think Mund was immature
But Mort’s on a different level for sure
He’s one of the strangest cookies the blog has seen
And should get back to school as he’s only thirteen

Comment #9It’s actually bang out of order the way TTT was targeted last night and is being targeted in general, for what???
For saying once that I was not the evil personified that I’m being made out to be and calling out that mummers farce that “Goal Linton” tried to instigate by saying he was leaving the blog. How on earth anyone can bemoan people being “chased off the blog” while actively trying to achieve very that is astounding. That was a completely embarrassing shite show last night, I’d be thoroughly ashamed if I woke up and read that this morning.

Comment #15Re Dubs, I think he’s burned his bridges with us now, sadly he’s on a loan until end of year (if I recall, could be end of season), and there was some talk of an option/mandate to buy at a fixed fee after so many appearances.

Comment #16Just looked at his Wiki, On 1 September 2022, Dúbravka joined Manchester United on a season-long loan from Newcastle. He made his debut in United’s 4–2 win over Aston Villa in the EFL Cup third round on 10 November 2022.
So he’s started one game then.

🙂
I have become a regular feature in your recent works. I shall try to change that.
I am not going anywhere Raj, but I am going to stick to my word last night and simply ignore certain individuals. It is too much hassle for others on the blog to wade though all the posts if I continue to reply to that kind of nonsense. I am pretty sure sane people see things as they actually are, not how some people would like to portray events to be.
WLtoon, of course Schar didn’t start I cursed him by transferring him into my FWC team.
Seriously though it is insane he didn’t start unless he is not 100% fit.

Comment #19Micky, Dubs loan is indeed until the end of the season which Man Utd paid us £2M for. Man Utd have the option to buy him for a further £6M which becomes an obligation if he makes a certain number of appearances (that number of appearances has never been published as far as I am aware)
NUFC do have the option to recall Dubs in the Jan window but there is no reason to do so, especially now Darlow is back and we have Karius. Man Utd aren’t playing him so they clearly don’t plan on buying him. Which means Dubs will come back to NUFC in the summer at which point he will then be sold to someone else.
At least we got £2M out of Man U for a ‘keeper neither us nor them will play.

You mentioned Goal Linton’s leaving post and it wasn’t too dissimilar from those of other WAGs in that it was pitched at Admin to paint a picture of an innocent victimised and driven off the Blog – the sign of a troublemaker if ever there was one. Yet they’re still allowed to post?
They must think people were born yesterday!

Comment #22Welsh, we don’t technically need players but I think If we could strengthen the first team with quality winger/forward player or a centre mid/CAM or better cover for Tripps at RB then why not do it? But there is the chance the right player is not available in which case I agree we should not be buying just anyone.
I think we will make 1 first team signing if the right opportunity presents itself and I am sure we will look to sign a couple more kids for the future too.

Comment #27Also I am not sure why some people are so convinced Qatar will sell PSG to buy Man Utd. That is a monumental headache to do and why didn’t people have this theory win Lpool went up for sale? Why does it only pop up now it is Man U?
Lpool are technically less broken than Man Utd overall too.
I could be wrong but I don’t think Qatar will go after either club and I don’t think either club will be sold particularly soon. I think the combination of having to compete with NUFC, ESL not being on the table and the way Chelsea was just taken away from Abramovich will put a hell of a lot of investors off.

It is revealing to see them crying like babies because their politcal bitterness, hatred and vitriol has been exposed.
They are horrible hate filled people.
Go back on here 1 year, 2 years, 3 years, 4 years, 5 years and it is the same people causing the aggro and ruck.
Cast out your hate – you’ll feel better.

Comment #30JohnJ, it is kind of sad really, I always liked Dubs. It is totally understandable that he would want to move on if he knew he was not number 1 once Pope came in. However the manner in which he did so was rather unpalatable with his sudden professing of an undying love of Man Utd. He got what he asked for, and he basically closed the door on his possible return here imo.
