Young Magpie Sees Specialist As Concussion Symptoms Continue

Lucas de Bolle has still made just one appearance for Hamilton during his loan spell. The midfielder continues to suffer from blurred vision after sustaining a concussion with the Newcastle U21s before his loan move in August.

The symptoms cleared up allowing for his debut against Queens Park on September 17th. De Bolle came on as a second-half substitute for a 20-minute run-out in the 2-0 defeat.

The 20-year-old then linked up with the Scotland U21s for the September international break. It was during this period that Lucas’s blurred vision returned. He hasn’t been available for Hamilton since.

Things were looking up late last month as De Bolle was reportedly close to a return to training. However, he’s gone to see a specialist in London this week according to a report in The Daily Record. Thankfully, a recent scan has not revealed any serious issues.

Accies boss John Rankin provided the following on de Bolle’s scan:

“Lucas got an MRI scan on Tuesday. It is something with his vestibula system and the ear sending messages to the brain. That is the explanation I have.

“He is a lot more comfortable with that now than he was before.

“Hopefully he is not too far away. He had to go to London to get the MRI and see a physio who specializes in this sort of thing.

“As far as we are aware Lucas’ scan was clear and he was back at Newcastle on Wednesday morning.

“So, hopefully, he can progress from there and be back involved very soon.

“He’s not trained in a while so he will still be a wee bit away in terms of fitness.”

This situation has turned into a nightmare for the young midfielder. His lingering concussion symptoms has kept him off the pitch for basically three months now. Hopefully, with the scan coming back clear, Lucas is on the road to a full recovery.

Its a bittersweet day for me today, one of my pals lost his wife 2 weeks ago and it`s the service today, a few bevvies, a couple of hours kip hopefully, then it`s back out for the big game, hoping for a sweet result for Blighty against the Yanks, who are no longer the mugs they used to be on a football pitch.
Ile go 2-1 with Wilson on the score sheet.
