Newcastle Defender Gets Another World Cup Start As England Face The USA

As suspected, Gareth Southgate has named an unchanged eleven for England’s Group B clash against The United States. Harry Kane is fine to start with Callum Wilson available from the bench.

Kieran Trippier will get his 39th cap for England as he keeps his place at right-back. The 32-year-old has been sensational this season for Newcastle and was very good in the 6-2 win over Iran.

For the USA, manager Gregg Berhalter has made just one change with Haji Wright on for Norwich striker Josh Sargent. Wright came on for Sargent in the 1-1 draw against Wales. The 24-year-old has 9 goals this season for Turkey’s Antalyaspor.

England are heavy favorites to pick up their second win after downing Iran 6-2 on Monday. The United States only managed a draw against Wales, who were defeated 2-0 by Iran earlier today.

Right get at them. Hold the ball and push them back. England seem to be playing with fear. USA playing a high line and it’s working for them

Ah this is the England I remember. I was worried we’d become a good side after the Iran match.

Trippier is having a mare of a game so far. Nothing like he plays for us? They need to get the tempo going as it is so lacklustre and it’s down to nerves

Half these yank players are bench warmers for their clubs and barely get game time. Why do they look fitter than our players?

Fenham, for once something we agree on, Trippier has been shocking here, but he’s one of a few wearing the shirt who need a kick up the arse!

I think they should get Wor Eddie and Jason Tindall into that dressing room for a rousing uplifting team talk. This is one of Southgates problems he is not got that in him.

The second half will be interesting as we finished the first as we should have played all game. Hopefully they come out and fix the issues of the first halve. The defending had gaps everywhere, we had no intensity to get the tempo going

Must say i hardly understand England tactic… no pressure, they are simply waiting at the middle line… wich is… suprising against a team like the USA.

And can’t be a coincidence, either they never worked high pressing in training, either Southgate ask them to do not press.

USA had a great first half against Wales, but couldnt back it up. They play with a lot of energy and will not be able to keep it up in the second half. England has much better players on the bench. Wilson will come on and score. Still think it will be a comfortable win after a good second half.

Can’t be physical either, with this world cup in November, english player are perfectly fit… and this is not a matter of motivation, this is the world cup.

So really, its tactical, Southgate do not want them to press.

Poor display by England – currently US are playing better. Have Rice and Kane actually started yet.

Should be getting at them – playing the ball backwards with the hope of a quick big boot to catch them out using Stirlings and Sakas’ speed. Not working at all.
Needs a rethink or we are going to get beaten

DrGloom. Maybe, but Wales were piss poor against them.

England are playing with limited risk because of the stansnings in the group. With more high press USA will be tested, not the best defekte IMO

The last time we battled a plucky bunch of Americans we were also battling France, Spain, the Dutch, Jamaica, Gibraltar and India at the same time and it cost us.

Hopefully we learned our lesson from that unfortunate independence issue and give them a good spanking in the second half, and remind them that we will always be the boss of them.
