Newcastle Defender Gets Another World Cup Start As England Face The USA

As suspected, Gareth Southgate has named an unchanged eleven for England’s Group B clash against The United States. Harry Kane is fine to start with Callum Wilson available from the bench.

Kieran Trippier will get his 39th cap for England as he keeps his place at right-back. The 32-year-old has been sensational this season for Newcastle and was very good in the 6-2 win over Iran.

For the USA, manager Gregg Berhalter has made just one change with Haji Wright on for Norwich striker Josh Sargent. Wright came on for Sargent in the 1-1 draw against Wales. The 24-year-old has 9 goals this season for Turkey’s Antalyaspor.

England are heavy favorites to pick up their second win after downing Iran 6-2 on Monday. The United States only managed a draw against Wales, who were defeated 2-0 by Iran earlier today.

Guys just thank your lucky stars you weren`t beat as the USA played you of the park from start to finish with more flair imagination awareness and general team structure. This England team remind me of Man Utd as you have a team of good individual players, but not in a million years are you a good team. As for the manager in my humble opinion he is just a younger version of Bruce. On the positive side you will get to the last 16 but once you meet a good team it will be Adios Qatar.

As I was watching the game I was thinking it might be a kindness if we lost as, as you say, better teams will probably give us a right kicking.

Bill i just call it as i see it, but don`t want to come across disrespectful to you English people, but that was a borefest from start to finish by England, not to worry at least you got to the world cup unlike my beloved Ireland who are simply not good enough my friend.

    Simon,

You are probably correct,he had an incredible understanding with D.K.

Now that was a partnership that just worked.

I think some of these players only think about themselves.

Kane would not have passed to Grealish but Wilson did!

Borefest — yes it was – terrible game.

Southgate is a knacker – you can see fear in his eyes. I wonder if he really was playing for a draw.

We might get through but will get knocked out straight away.

    Southgate (knacker)…………………..OOT

Loved Bills post that Rice is just a shite Sean Longstaff. Couldn’t agree more Sir. 😉

I have no idea as to why they rave about Rice. He is totally 1 dimensional and shouldn’t have been a snake and jumped ship from Ireland. He has taken Lobby’s position. 😉

We need a new manager to get the best out of this squad of players. The FA should have acted a while ago re keeping Southgate in his position. The writing was on the wall a while ago irrespective that Southgate has done the best since Sir Alf Ramsey. It was not him that managed that feat it was the players at his disposal IMO. As soon as Italy beat us in the Euro’s that was the time to replace him with a more pragmatic, offensive, front foot football, modern manager. Most of this squad play for such managers/coaches in the EPL Pep et al. Then they have to play to Southgate’s strengths which is defensive, boring and with no pressing or tenacity. That’s the problem. But the root cause of this problem is the FA for not acting when they should have as this England squad deserve so much better… Shame!

Hopefully, the lads pull their socks up. As that team out there played for a draw against the USA. No disrespect to the USA as they weee great tonight and I called it before the match started that they’re no mugs. But it was how we were set up for a draw not to get into them for a win. Weee they saving their energy levels because of the environment they’re playing in. Who knows, if so then that is shameful.

Should have known, the real Southgate showed up. After this mornings result he knew he just had to avoid getting beat and losing by more than 4-0 to Wales to still qualify.

Arsehole, waste of time, why not try to bloody win and guarantee next round with Wales a dead rubber. Boils my ………

I almost wish USA had nicked it, just to show the knacker up. As for Kane, every time he got the ball he stopped, literally stopped, stood still with ball at feet- what the hell was that all about?

#224 pity England had no idea to control a bang average USA team. They were toothless and the Wales game will be interesting re your interesting theory.

For me they should play to win every game to get into a rhythm. It’s so important at a finals. You wouldn’t see Spain or Brazil playing like that hence we have no chance in this competition. Love to be proved wrong though. Love it

I feel it’s been the typical reaction to England.

We smash Iran, we’re gonna win it.

We draw against USA, we’re going out.

Not the greatest performance, but we’ll top our group still and then who knows.

I don’t question the idea of being defensive to gain a result, some teams do that very well.

    The problem here is twofold:

1 This is not english football mentality or tradition, honnestly, each time you tried to do that in History, it didn’t end well, you’re just not good at that.

2 Considering the opposition tonight, to wait was the best way to be in trouble when a more agressive style would have resulted in an easy win i think.
