Report Suggests Magpie Will Get Another Cap For England Today

It appears from reports this morning that Gareth Southgate will name an unchanged eleven for England’s Group B clash against The United States this evening. The Chronicle is one of the outlets reporting of a ‘leaked’ teamsheet that shows no changes from the 6-2 win over Iran.

There was some consternation this week over the fitness of striker Harry Kane. The 28-year-old took a heavy challenge against Iran and was subbed off for Callum Wilson. Kane underwent a scan on his ankle a few days ago which came back clear.

Southgate hinted yesterday that Kane would start against the States saying:

“Harry Kane is good. He came through tests with no problems. It would be a brave decision to leave him out of the starting team.

“All teams have the same recovery period. It is a little shorter than in previous tournaments. Only will only benefit us if we get through the group stages, where we might have a longer period to recover as you get through the competition.”

If Southgate keeps with the eleven that soundly downed Iran, it’ll be another cap for Kieran Trippier. The right-back carried his excellent Newcastle form to Qatar as he was superb in Monday’s win.

England are the heavy favorites to advance from their group. Wales and the USA battled to a 1-1 draw on Monday. The Welsh face Iran in today’s early match as manager Rob Page makes one change with Kieffer Moore in for Daniel James.

The World Cup got underway for two other Magpies on Thursday. Fabian Schar was an unused substitute in Switzerland’s 1-0 win over Cameroon. Bruno Guimaraes also didn’t get on the pitch as Brazil beat Serbia 2-0 on two Richarlison strikes. Both countries are well-placed in Group G for Monday’s showdown.

    Raj – not true, very complimentary about the other days performance, just pointing out we have one or two weak links.

    Will accept your apology when you realise your mistake.

    TDS – why was the comment negative.

    Everyone knows Pickford and Maguire make mistakes.

    Hardly controversial.

    Apologies for having a different opinion to you and the Blog Master.

    Very worrying that the French are building a replica of William the Conquerors warship to recreate the invasion of England in 1066.

    I think that the captain of the boat has been named as Captain Lucien Lesh and the cabin boy as Jail (aka Me Me Me).

    @Clint

    Guillaume le bâtard ( no “e”, it would be the feminine form in french ).

    He was the son of the duke of Normandy and… of a pretty non noble woman of modest origin ( perhaps the daughter of some kind of tailor ) who was his concubine.

    So they weren’t married, hence the nickname of Guillaume.

    @TDS

    Yes, he’s supposed to be the descendant of Rollo, the famous Viking warlord who sacked Paris and was given the Normandy in exchange of leaving the city. Well, if Rollo ever existed… But anyway, yes, the dukes of Normandy were from scandinavian origin altough at the time of Guillaume, they were fully frenchified.

    I agree, iKane has had a scan on his ankle and there are concerns that Kane is injured, if so then there is a big call for Southgate to make between Wilson and Rashford who gets the No9 slot today…The player I fear the most to pick up an injury is Wilson (because of his injury record) and we cannot afford that…That’s if Kane is actually injured though obviously…

    Trippier will probably play most games for England in this tournament but less injury prone than Wilson but there is always that fear as Trippier has Been an integral part as to why we are in 3rd position in the EPL going into the festive period. Sounds nice that doesn’t it. So I’ll say it again… The Toon are in 3rd place of the EPL going into the festive period. 🙂 Unbelievably great performance for Eddie, his back room and their amazing squad of players. To achieve such a feat

    All players have mistakes in them as they’re all human at the end of the day, so we will always have human error in players from time to time. However, there are those players that have many more mistakes or howler’s and out that whole England team, the ones I worry about is Pickford and Maguire…

    These 2 players are decent enough players when they are not making mistakes but unfortunately for England (fook Everton or Manure) these 2 have me on edge watching Them play for England. Pickford has proven time and time again he gets a rush of blood to the head and makes rash decisions that are costly being a keeper. Maguire has mistakes in him as his head (no pun intended) is all over the place at the moment and he lacks confidence which causes him to make even more error’s as he tries to hard.

    They are most definitely 2 of the England squads players that are highly likely to be prone to errors that could cost us dearly. Southgate should have never picked Maguire for England. There were better options. Burn being one for example. Pope in place for T-Rex, as soon as that first Rick happens, just hope England are 2/3 up when it happens

Please stop with the “faux outrage” like I overstepped the line, insulted you, and told you that you’re not allowed to post a slightly negative post about England. I DID NOT.

    You have nothing to apologise for that original post but your last post to me was just silly.

    As for actual football topics, how often does Pickford make mistakes for England? He’s been fantastic. Maguire has been good too although I agree that we’re short on top quality centre halves,

    Fenham – Time and time again? Can you list any mistakes Pickford has made for England? I think perhaps he made one in the Nations League but I have a feeling that was his first mistake leading to a goal for England. I could be wrong and it could be zero or 2 but I seem to remember that.

    TfB – I’m kinda with you that I’d love to see Pope earn that jersey and play for England in the World Cup. But I also want to see England do well, which means Pickford playing well and not getting injured. Would be nice to see Pope get on the pitch for a while though but I’m sure that’s only going to happen if Pickford gets injured or we’re cruising and can afford to make a sub purely to be nice.

    Check – links golf went very well thanks! 35 points on the first day but the winner got 40 (including a hole in one!) and I had a freaky second day. 13 points on the front 9 (was a bit windy) and a massive 25 points on the back 9 (wind had died down a lot)! 38 points made me winner for the second day and total of 73 was just 2 behind the overall winner. Kinda glad I didn’t win both as I was new to the group.

    Lovely course and really enjoyed it. Also +4 on the back 9 (3 pars, 5 bogeys, and 1 birdie) was my best ever 9 holes of golf.

    Got persuaded to submit the card after winning and got a little cut from 19.5 to 19.2.
