Report Suggests Magpie Will Get Another Cap For England Today

It appears from reports this morning that Gareth Southgate will name an unchanged eleven for England’s Group B clash against The United States this evening. The Chronicle is one of the outlets reporting of a ‘leaked’ teamsheet that shows no changes from the 6-2 win over Iran.

There was some consternation this week over the fitness of striker Harry Kane. The 28-year-old took a heavy challenge against Iran and was subbed off for Callum Wilson. Kane underwent a scan on his ankle a few days ago which came back clear.

Southgate hinted yesterday that Kane would start against the States saying:

“Harry Kane is good. He came through tests with no problems. It would be a brave decision to leave him out of the starting team.

“All teams have the same recovery period. It is a little shorter than in previous tournaments. Only will only benefit us if we get through the group stages, where we might have a longer period to recover as you get through the competition.”

If Southgate keeps with the eleven that soundly downed Iran, it’ll be another cap for Kieran Trippier. The right-back carried his excellent Newcastle form to Qatar as he was superb in Monday’s win.

England are the heavy favorites to advance from their group. Wales and the USA battled to a 1-1 draw on Monday. The Welsh face Iran in today’s early match as manager Rob Page makes one change with Kieffer Moore in for Daniel James.

The World Cup got underway for two other Magpies on Thursday. Fabian Schar was an unused substitute in Switzerland’s 1-0 win over Cameroon. Bruno Guimaraes also didn’t get on the pitch as Brazil beat Serbia 2-0 on two Richarlison strikes. Both countries are well-placed in Group G for Monday’s showdown.

Check – I don’t deny that people like Raj and Munster get involved in little niggles and seemingly try to stir things up with people they don’t particularly like. I’ve told them both before too so it’s no shock. I probably used to do the same too but realised it doesn’t get me anywhere so taking a different tack now.

    TDS,

Not really a fan of Maguire and Rice to be honest, but knew they’d probably start the opener. I’d probably only swap Mount out, but that doesn’t look likely coz Maddison ain’t ready.
Same 11 again for me again, see how they get on. Plenty on the bench to change it up.

Tds in my defence there are only about 5 or 6 ball bags on here that I’d be bothered niggling. Vast majority are grand on here.

TfB – I suspect the same 11 too. I think Maguire is a very good defender, just been in relatively poor form for Man Utd for a while, but they’ve been a mess as a club for a while too. I think he’d be better alongside someone more solid (a John Terry type) but we don’t have anyone like that with the quality and the experience.

Rice is a very good player I think but does a lot of unseen work. He covers a lot of ground and fills the gaps when needed. Does decent work defensively and offensively but doesn’t really massively excel in any particular area. Doing a similar role to Henderson I’d say.

    LiVARfooldaaaaarnsaaarth,

Pickford is hot headed that has lead to his making the most errors for a GK in Englands history…scrambles for the ball on crosses and often loses the ball, doesn’t cope under pressure, doesn’t command his box, is the height of Raj, has tiny arms, and is a mackem.

You would argue that black is white to get a point across. Talking about black and white. This is an NUFC Blog where we don’t really big up LiVARfool, Manure, mackems. Or Anti Monarchists, stop the oil, extinction rebellion nutters.

When you go on holiday on a jet plane (aye stop the oil lol) or your golfing trips (in your lush 2008 soft top – again stop the oil lol) – This blog is a haven to post without your persistent arguments. Then you return to spew shite all over as per the above. The only types that will get you are: Lesh (say no more), The Taco kid, AdamnEve, Raj (when he feels it’s needed), oh and DrGloom (the ex armed forces guy that thinks you don’t need to swear and oath to the king/queen when signing up), ZG (that guy that gets pi$$ed on rice wine and wants to meet for a fight haha), A Pug Scientist (I won’t go there)

Calm yourself down. This is an NUFC Blog. Not your playground where only your opinions matter!!!

Munster – I don’t deny that there are some “ball bags” on here but as I’ve said to you before, what are you hoping to get out of niggling at them? They’re not going to suddenly have an epiphany, realise they’re a “ball bag”, apologise, and start being a decent person. All they’re going to do is argue back and escalate the situation. I’m trying not to feed them to be honest…I’ll call a spade a spade (like I did with Mund earlier) but I’m not then getting dragged down to his level when he was obviously spoiling for a fight.

Easy to praise the team after they’ve played really well, what’s up with getting behind them before the game. You’ve poured nothing but scorn on them, until you couldn’t, less of the coward as well, you have more than your fair share of digs at me.

    TDS,

Aye, it’ll be Rice again probably. Phillips would be a risk due to game time and match fitness, but if we’re a couple of goals up Southgate needs to get him on the pitch. Henderson hasn’t got the legs anymore, if we have to start him I think we’re coming home early doors!

Check – handicap is going to come down further too. I’ve been in the top few of most comps I’ve entered in the last few months so I know it’s still a bit high. Probably should be more like 17 to be realistic. Will be there soon enough…

TfB – Henderson’s experience counts for a lot if we need to close the game down. Plenty of successful teams have older and very experienced players to provide that balance, leadership, and nous when required. Can’t see Henderson starting though as I agree his legs won’t take it. Phillips is decent but I think it’s Rice’s shirt to lose and he didn’t do anything wrong in the first game.

Would be nice to cruise to an easy win today and get a few more lads on the pitch after an hour or so. No reason to think it will be easy though…they’ve got some decent players.

I’ll tell you what, the way Iran are playing here it makes our win against them seem really impressive rather than easy.

Some of their counter attacks have been fantastic and are unbelievably unlucky not to be winning.

Either that or Wales are simply appalling.

Dazzler – I don’t think Wales are a strong team, they rely on very good teamwork and the odd bit of magic from quality players (predominantly Bale obviously and previously Ramsay too). Iran are obviously a good team though, I don’t think any crap team qualifies for the World Cup. Just see what happened to Argentina and Germany.

TfB – I think it depends on who the opposition is. But yeah, that’s an option too. But it’s a 26 man squad so I’m happy that there’s Rice, Phillips, and Henderson to fulfil that role. Dier could do it too if necessary.

    TDS,

Iran didn’t even try to do this against us, other than the two actual attacks that led to goals. They just sat back and tried not to lose by double digits.

If they put our defence under this kind of pressure they might have done a bit better. They look deadly on the counter, they just can’t seem to convert their chances.

Dazzler – I think we had much better control of the game from what I saw. Passed the ball around really well and just didn’t give them a chance. I just checked the stats actually and it says 78% possession! Wales have 63% mind you but they’re inviting pressure.
