It appears from reports this morning that Gareth Southgate will name an unchanged eleven for England’s Group B clash against The United States this evening. The Chronicle is one of the outlets reporting of a ‘leaked’ teamsheet that shows no changes from the 6-2 win over Iran.
There was some consternation this week over the fitness of striker Harry Kane. The 28-year-old took a heavy challenge against Iran and was subbed off for Callum Wilson. Kane underwent a scan on his ankle a few days ago which came back clear.
Southgate hinted yesterday that Kane would start against the States saying:
“Harry Kane is good. He came through tests with no problems. It would be a brave decision to leave him out of the starting team.
“All teams have the same recovery period. It is a little shorter than in previous tournaments. Only will only benefit us if we get through the group stages, where we might have a longer period to recover as you get through the competition.”
If Southgate keeps with the eleven that soundly downed Iran, it’ll be another cap for Kieran Trippier. The right-back carried his excellent Newcastle form to Qatar as he was superb in Monday’s win.
England are the heavy favorites to advance from their group. Wales and the USA battled to a 1-1 draw on Monday. The Welsh face Iran in today’s early match as manager Rob Page makes one change with Kieffer Moore in for Daniel James.
The World Cup got underway for two other Magpies on Thursday. Fabian Schar was an unused substitute in Switzerland’s 1-0 win over Cameroon. Bruno Guimaraes also didn’t get on the pitch as Brazil beat Serbia 2-0 on two Richarlison strikes. Both countries are well-placed in Group G for Monday’s showdown.

Comment #163Magic – strange post really, as personally dont give a fook if folk knew my address or details.
Like what’s gunna happen. I take someone’s head off with a shovel if they come knocking.
Its not the wild west out there.
If somebody is proud of their military service why not post about it, just like posting yer fitting in an emergency light test. No different.

Comment #165Dazzler: Woder what role he’d play. Must be getting on by now. Last I heard of him was doing background vocals on Knopfker’s “Why aye man”

#163 I agree it did come across strange, but as it’s Magic who I admire a lot I’m sure it was not meant to come across in the way it could be misconstrued.
But if any of these fookers whom I’ve unfortunately argued or had spats with from here turned up to my address. Well it would be to their behest and they’d wish they’d never done it. But I’m sure they’d not have the balls to even think about it let alone do it. 😉

Comment #167There are thousands of Irish people (north and south) who have served in the British Army from WW1 onwards.
It would be very foolish of them to announce this as they would be putting themselves and their families in jeopardy of getting killed.
I think this is what magic was alluding to.

I think you know me well enough to realise i dont dish out threats to any individual, but i have no doubt your superiors in the British military security forces would strongly advice their servicemen putting things on social media which could possibly leave them or their familys`s in a precarious or valnearable position, as the saying goes, sometimes less is more. I was not having a pop at you Fenham, there is some ruthless and dangerous people out there, so sometimes it`s better on social media to think things through carefully and consider not just yourself but your whole family mate.
