Newcastle appear to be set to make yet another behind-the-scenes appointment. It’s one that could pay massive dividends for the future of the club as it involves youth recruitment.
Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Paul Midgley will become the new Head of Youth Recruitment at St. James’ Park. Midgley had been a northern youth scout with Manchester City since August.
Newcastle have reached an agreement to hire Paul Midgley as Head of Youth Recruitment — joining from Man City where he was regional scout. ????? #NUFC
Agreement in place and deal done as Newcastle want to improve all club’s areas.
— Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) November 26, 2022
This could be an excellent appointment for Newcastle. Midgley is a well-respected judge of young talent. Prior to joining City, he was Leeds United’s Head of Academy Recruitment where he oversaw the signings of players aged 12 to 16.
Midgley will oversee a critical aspect of Newcastle’s rise back to prominence. The talent scout should come ready with a number of domestic names after focusing on the north for the defending Premier League champions.
Newcastle have also been linked with a number of foreign youth targets in recent months. Many hail from South America with talent-rich Brazil a primary area of focus. Recently interest in Flamengo wonderkid Matheus Franca came to light.
Aussie talent Garang Kuol will be the first signing of the winter window with Newcastle primed to add more young talent. Kuol didn’t play in Australia’s 1-0 win over Tunisia today.

Comment #361Niafron, nice pithy comment to my fellow Irishman Magic about Killeshandra. Woke up early and I see the Munster recording was interrupted 🙁 so I’m watching the Chelsea game on motd instead 🙂

Just read that article on Kuol, I too wish he’d started against Tunisia. Looks like he only got a start against France because the game was done. Australia only need a draw, would be a fairytale if they’re trailing 1-0 and he comes on and saves the day.

Comment #364The tickets for Vallencano are still up for grabs, it’ll be interesting to see how many turn up for that given the Carabou Cup is only a few days later and the Women’s game is around that time as well.

Comment #365Unfortunately I’ll be at work for all three as I think I’d have gone to all of them, I’d like to be part of a record crowd. Not sure what that is mind given the Emirates hosted a 47K one and I’m sure the Nou camp had a turnout that eclipsed that against Real Madrid women. I hope they get an accurate amount next time as I believe there was a lot more than 22K there the last time.

Comment #370Well it looks like another night of coming home’s drunken ‘banta’ has took its toll on the blog again. I suppose by the time anyone’s waded through that pile of shite it takes away one’s appetite for discussion.

Comment #377Klinsmann doesn’t work for any FA or is employed by any clubs, I’m not sure what punishment he could face, the Ayotolla could grant a fatwa, that wouldn’t be too clever.

The reason I asked about Georgeopoulis was that I once knew a Shields lad years ago who used to go there for the whole summer, every summer.
I’ve never been there, to what was then village but like all sleepy and nice places on Crete, it now seems to be a very popular resort as has Hersonissos which I’ve passed through many a time during what were my annual trips to Crete.
