Newcastle’s Second Pre-Season Should Ramp Up Soon

Five Magpies are away at the World Cup while the remaining squad should be getting close to a return to training. The squad sans Bruno Guimaraes, Fabian Schar, Callum Wilson, Nick Pope, and Kieran Trippier will be ramping up their preparations for the second half of the season in short order.

Newcastle are just one week away from jetting off to Riyadh for a warm-weather training camp. The week-long trip culminates with a friendly against Saudi Pro League’s Al-Hilal on December 8th before the lads return on the 10th.

There is will be one more friendly with Florian Lejeune and La Liga’s Elche coming to St. James’ Park on the 17th. That friendly is scheduled only a few days before competitive matches resume with the Carabao Cup Fourth Round against Bournemouth on the 21st of December.

Before all that, Newcastle will find out their FA Cup opponent tomorrow when the draw for the third round will be held. The Magpies are ball number 27 out of 64 as the second round gets completed today.

Speaking of the FA Cup, Newcastle’s Women have advanced in the Women’s FA Cup defeating Barnsley 2-1 at St. James’ Park. The attendance for the cup tie was 28,565 which is the highest attendance for a non-final in the competition.

The Lady Mags came from 1-0 behind to get the comeback win with second-half goals from Georgia Gibson and Sharna Wilkinson. The NUFC Women continue their fine form and are currently second in the Women’s National League North just 1 point behind Durham Cestria.

Yesterday David Herdman was talked about (which I don’t think is the worst shout)as a successor, which, if we’re being honest, nobody had heard of or at least very little. This is where we’re at with the state of the pool of English managers. Roy bloody Hodgson and Sam Allardyce, Graham Potter clearly wasn’t interested or he wouldn’t have gone to Chelsea and Eddie H isn’t going anywhere in a hurry. So where do we honestly go from here, bring in another foreign coach, that in itself is a bigger disgrace than the performance against the USA.

Culottes are now a wide legged pants, around knee length. Mostly seen as female apparel. Outerwear, by the way.

Gotta say; I’m not sure why people are so against an overseas coach at england fc.
Is it ‘cos of the press, fa etc?

    CF,
I can’t speak for anyone else but I’m so against it because it highlights a glaring deficiency in our footballing infrastructure. The Dutch, Germans, French, Italians, Brazilians don’t do it, the only top nations I can think of are Belguim and Portugal. We are the richest FA with supposedly the best league in the world with a big population, it is shocking the lack of managers who can even be considered for the job.

“A @VitalityWFACup attendance record outside of a final – thank you for your magnificent support at St. James’ Park!”
Ah, I wonder if that’s why Mehrad was asking for 35K, maybe that was the record attendance for that cup.

Well, i totally see ya point, there.
It would make sense when put like that.
    Why is this?
Is it just an inability in the ciaching level?
Is it because the ‘top’ teams don’t employ British/english coaches…and why?
Maybe the best english coaches just don’t want the job?
Maybe they don’t wanna work for the fa?
It’s a bit part time, too.

    CF,
But who are the best English coaches? There are only two in the PL that could even be considered, I don’t think clubs won’t hire them it’s just that they’re not good enough, only Eddie H and Graham Potter seem to have broken the mould. Maybe get those two to put a plan in place.

I can see a lot of interference from the fa, in the background, like.
It seems like certain players come thru whatever the england fc place in called, then they are almost guaranteed to play for england. With a couple of wild cards, usually a bit, to a lot maverick…but usually overlooked.
Least that’s how it looks… it’s all a bit staid, stiff backed, stiff upper lip, all personality removed, type of vibe.

    Again, good point!

Maybe, just maybe… english coaching is ‘justabout’ ready to modernize, with guys like Eddie. Personally, i feel he’s gonna change a lot. I reckon others are checking his processes, as we type.
But there’s a ton of outta date, trad, dull, built in, expected behaviours to break down.
Sometimes good innovative people come and go before their great ideas can be utilized, then they’re innovations are lost.

When we hear some/most of the media/press/punditry in this country, it’s not too difficult to see how much needs to change. But there’s never really a clear out, just an evolution. Look at female presenters.
They’re ‘allowed’ in, it’s refreshing, then, like digging in dry sand, they’re expected to fit the scene. And before long, it’s like: oh! Aren’t we progressive, let’s pretend it was never any different, and it all goes back to ‘normal service is resumed’.
It’s the typical, don’t scare the locals, bit-sized chunks, all very digestible, middle way.

I get what you say about evolution v revolution, but closer to home I think the majority of toon fans are happy with Eddie’s steady evolution.

But still, it’s good to have some anarchists like you and Sparky on board!

This record crowd malarkey seems to be shrouded in confusion. Nufc.com saying yesterday’s attendance was a record, the official twitter account saying a record outside of a final. The other record was surely for a game outside of the main WSL league.

If there wasn’t any FFP there is no doubt that PiF would have thrown even more money at us than they have tye LIV golf, I wouldn’t say no to Mbappe et al but this way now is just as satisfying.

Eddie is a one man (R)Evolution!
Evolution in it’s clearest, most precise, quickest sense, looks like a revolution to mist people. He’s got us way ahead if the curve that most expected. But that’s simply because almost every player gas immediately bought in, due mainly to being starved if coaching and direction.
Plus, the club was a prime candidate, sufficiently run down, but salvageable, cheap enough but not nasty.
How someone didn’t buy ‘thing’ out 5 plus years ago??? Amazing!!!
    What an opportunity!
There’ll be a few kicking themselves now, wishing they’d signed the beatles!

Just to show what can be done with real coaching, proper investment, and the correct approach.
Eschewing all the crappy pundit led crao about spending big to win.

News from France: it seem good old french arrogance is back… people are really turning overconfident.

As you know, we were the first team to reach the second round and right now, we are still the only one wich is quiet unusual at this stage of the competition.

So the joke here is now: “Who want to play us? No one!”

You know, it’s funy, cause one week ago, everybody was moaning about Benzema, Kanté, Pogba and so on…

Personally, think our defense issues are going to be solved ( especially with the return of Varane ), but still think our midfield isn’t strong enough.

Clint I think once we bought Isak we had to give up the suggestion that we don’t spend a lot. I think we ended up being one of the biggest spenders in the world last year.

That said, we came from a low base during to Ashley being so tight, and the argument I tend to use with people who slag us off is that if you leave out Isak, the team is populated by cheap buys like Trips and Dan Burn. We just happen to be very well coached, and Isak has hardly played.

    Morning all,

Missing the craic re Newcastle and can’t wait for the W.C to be over.

I am in Tenerife with some chaps, we were at Revelotion Bar literally 30 mins before the stupid idiots started fighting.

You could feel the animosity between the young English and Welsh fans, Veronica’s is not for us and fortunately we had left before the grief, only heard about it after my daughter sent me the video the next day.

Anyway it’s nice seeing us linked with some good younguns that Eddie can develop.

Right back to the pool, catch you lot later, hope all are well 🙂
