The confirmation of Paul Midgley as the new Head of Youth Recruitment could be imminent. Both Craig Hope and Fabrizio Romano, who broke the news over the weekend are stating that Midgley’s move to Newcastle is a done deal.
Paul Midgley will start work at Newcastle this week, joining from Man City in academy recruitment role. More scouting appointments expected across all levels of club #nufc

Paul Midgley to Newcastle, done and confirmed. ????? #NUFC https://t.co/4dg6goicEJ
— Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) November 28, 2022
Midgley held a similar position with Leeds prior to his arrival at Manchester City as a northern regional scout in August. At Leeds, he was responsible for the recruitment of players aged 12 to 16.
Judging by the young talent at Elland Road, Midgley could be a monumental appointment for Newcastle United. The club are determined to add quality to the Academy with a number of teenagers linked with January moves.
Australian international Garang Kuol will join in January after his signing was confirmed during the September international break. Kuol has been outstanding for Central Coast Mariners as he eyes another opportunity with Australia in their final group match against Denmark on Wednesday.
Yesterday, The NUFC Women defeated the Barnsely Women 2-1 in a second-half comeback in the Women’s FA Cup. The highlights of the cup win can be seen in the YouTube video below.

It was Rodrygo with the assist, although the ball did hit the Swiss defender’s arse on the way in,

Comment #163Pug – exactly. That ranking will be based on periods when the likes of Eden Hazard, Lukaku, Vertonghen, Aldweweireld, Kompany and others were at the top of their game. Don’t think I’d put them in the top 10 in the world based on their current squad.

Comment #175Is it just me or did anyone else notice how poor Bruno was?
Lost the ball quite a lot, ran around like a headless chicken not doing much, and I don’t think he got in a single tackle where he won the ball.

Comment #176Something massive I’m noticing with Brazil. The players seem very greedy and never look for the past or the one two, to play other players in.
They all seem to be playing as individuals trying to impress to get in the team and ultimately over doing it or doing it all themselves rather than playing in another player.

Comment #180Bruno took time to adjust to the game but he made some good passes and was available for passes. Not a stand out performance but he was not ‘poor’ by sny stretch of the imagination!
Brazil coasted through the match, as they knew Switzerland could not hurt them.

Comment #184Just looking at a few other teams to see their inexperienced players (under 5 caps and not a goalkeeper):
Germany
Bella-Kotchap – 20 year old RB
Adeyemi – 20 year old RW
Moukoko – 18 year old striker
Fullkrug – 29 year old striker (10 goals in 14 league appearances!)
Spain
Balde – 19 year old LB
Guillamon – 22 year old DM
France
Konate – 23 year old CB
Sisasi – 24 year old CB
Camavinga – 20 year old CM
Fofana – 23 year old CM
Muani – 23 year old striker
Brazil
Bremer – 25 year old CB
Martinelli – 21 year old LW
Pedro – 25 year old striker
Netherlands
Frimpong – 21 year old RB
Taylor – 20 year old CM
Simons – 19 year old CAM
Argentina
Almada – 21 year old CAM
Just to provide some actual figures behind what I said earlier. The 29 year old German striker is a bit of an anomaly. Selected due to amazing form and presumably a lack of other options. Selecting Burn would be very unusual and even Longstaff would be unusual.

Comment #185Aah lads he was like a headless chicken, he was chasing shadows, won no possession, gave the ball away 3 times, one nearly led to a Swiss goal. He won zero tackles. Even the ball that led to the goal that was ruled out only got there because Bruno lost the ball in the lead up.
That’s not the same Bruno I’m used to. He definitely got a little more solid in the last 10 mins, but seriously we need to be able to call a spade a spade, it wasn’t anywhere near vintage.
I think he needs minutes, give him 90 mins next match and he will tear it up.

Comment #190Ash that reply I can definitely accept. But it wasn’t vintage at all.
I just hope Tite gives him a full 90 mins to show what he can do I the next game now the pressure is off, Because Paqueta and Fred have been absolutely rubbish in both matches. He deserves a start.

Comment #193Bruno maybe didn’t look as good for Brazil cos he has many stand out players around him and has to slit in – he started poorly lost ball which nearly led to a goal – but got better as the game went on – still did more than Fred

Assassins… Great post made me chuckle that post. Was it about that little Davy kid that posted on here. That little short arsed fella from Sooth Shields who changed light bulbs working offshore for a living and loved to dance if I remember rightly? Funny little bugger he was.
