Newcastle have drawn Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough for the Third Round of the FA Cup. The Owls are currently third in League One just 3 points behind Plymouth Argyle, who top the division.

The FA Cup third round will take place on the weekend after the trip to Arsenal on January 3rd. It will be the fifth match after the World Cup comes to an end.
Cambridge pulled off a shocker in this competition last year defeating Newcastle 1-0 in the third round. That match served as Kieran Trippier’s debut but was also an impetus to get some more winter deals completed.
Those troublesome days are in the rearview mirror as Eddie Howe sparked a revival in February leading Newcastle to safety. This season has been nothing short of sensational with the club sitting third in the Premier League.
Newcastle are also still alive in the Carabao Cup with Bournemouth coming to St. James’ Park on December 21st. That tie has added significance as it is the first to arrive after the World Cup break.

Comment #1Bruno Guimaraes completed more attacking third passes (4), more take-ons (1/1), won more ground duels (2/3), won more aerial duels (1/1) than Fred in just 32 minutes. Bruno also only had five touches less (29) than Fred managed (34) in 60 minutes.

Comment #13Brazil have qualified now then, right? Makes sense to rotate the squad so seeing Bruno from the start is quite likely I’d say.

Comment #15Was hoping for an away tie against a southern team I must admit. Still, that’s a very winnable tie away to Wednesday.

Comment #16Feel bad there for Mendes….he is fast and big….that run he made down the left to win that ball he overtook like 3 of the Uruguay players who had about 20-30 yards on him,

Comment #17Sheff wed away. Aye I’ve had some great away days there when we took the whole end. I’m not sure if they allow the whole end for away fans these days though would be great if they’d allowed it to boost their attendance for extra revenue. That would be some match to go to if they did. Imagine the noise from wor lot. Best away fans in the land deserve the whole end though mind. It would be like a home game. Good draw for us. 🙂

Comment #19I said before this world cup got underway that it would be a very open world cup as i didn`t think there was any really outstanding international teams in the world at the moment, i certainly haven`t witnessed anything so far to make me change my mind, and there are probably still about 7 or 8 teams in with a chance of lifting the trophy. Great draw for the Toon in the FA Cup.

Comment #38Presume there are different penalty rules for the World Cup than the Premier League. Chance of having a World Cup rules expert on ITV to say whether the correct decision was made or not for that penalty? I’d say slim…
Instead it will be retired pros saying it was “never a penalty” despite not knowing the current rules…

Comment #40Problem with the handball rule is trying to get a clear rule that most people would be happy with. Speak to many people and they love to moan about the handball rule but don’t have a feasible solution for it.
