Magpies Gets World Cup Debut As Report Suggests Changes For England

Bruno Guimaraes made his World Cup debut for Brazil in their 1-0 win over Fabian Schar’s Switzerland yesterday. The midfielder came on in the 58th minute for Manchester United’s Fred.

It was another Man United midfielder who clinched the win as Casemiro’s wonderful finish in the 83rd minute resigned the Swiss to defeat. Schar again was an unused substitute but he did swap jerseys with his Magpie teammate after the match.

Brazil have qualified for the knockout stages while Switzerland face Serbia on Friday to stake their claim for the next phase. The Swiss advance with a win and can even get through with a draw if Brazil defeats Cameroon.

England have their final match this evening. They must avoid losing to Wales by four goals or more to advance. The USA must defeat Iran to continue in the tournament. A draw is likely enough for the Iranians to get through.

The Chronicle is reporting that Gareth Southgate will make at least two changes today. He’s named an unchanged eleven in the first two matches. However, there are murmurs that Kyle Walker and Jordan Henderson will be brought into the starting eleven.

The report suggests Jude Bellingham will make way for Henderson with Walker likely in for Kieran Trippier. With a trip to the next round all but guaranteed, not risking Trippier will be welcomed news for Newcastle fans.

I’ve been asked to consider being more balanced and fair
And to focus on Munster and perhaps a few mair
So you may not agree, but I hope you still smile
As I feature the big Oirish bollix from the Emerald Isle

The guy has a habit of rubbing some up the wrong way
But the way that I see it is that he just wants to play
In the way that we’d pull on the girls hair at school
He just wants a reaction, he’s nobody’s fool

He’s a cheeky bollix from Limerick
Who’s never known to miss a trick
He always knows which buttons to press
To get some guys to bite and others to stress

He loves fishing for trout on a self-tied fly
And also for bloggers, I ain’t gonna lie
But don’t rise to the bait like the hoodwinked fish
And remember that Munster’s just taking the pish

If he mentions the English in a negative way
He knows Tuffers and Fenham will be at him all day
And that’s how he likes it, it stops him being bored
He’d rather be confronted instead of ignored

And if he once again gets on Rafa’s case
He knows Rotonda and Jail will be up in his face
But Munster being Munster he doesn’t really care
He’s happy when others are pulling out their hair

He’s had his run ins with squaddies for example, OP
And now of course Fenners who’s ex-military
This is when things get way out of hand
As those two quite rightly always take a firm stand

He obviously speaks from an Irish view
Just as you would expect him to
But live and let live is what I say
Just avoid ‘the troubles’ and the IRA

He likes to fan the flames and stir the pot
A shrinking violet wor Munster is not
I personally think that he’s good for this place
He livens it up so it moves on apace

There’s nothing wrong with a bit of controversy
To spark things up if you’re asking me
It just wouldn’t do if we were all the same
We need all sorts on here from the smart to inane

    He’s a provocateur,  but a decent sort
That is what I’ve always thought
He’s just poking the bear which he does by default
The best way to take Munster is with a large pinch of salt!

Christmas song from BBC web page…

    Kane better watch out,
    He’d better not cry,
    He’d better not pout,
I’m telling you why: Callum Wilson’s going to start.
He’ll score when you are sleeping He’ll score when your awake
He’ll score if Kane’s been bad or good (so he’d better be good for goodness sake)

When (if) Juventus get relegated because of financial mismanagement, as they did in 2006 because of their illegal financial dealings, which players should we buy in the fire sale?

    Bonjour Mesdames et Messieurs!

    @magicmac54

Royal Oak? What is this? I know she was a battleship who entered service during WW1 and was sunk during WW2 by a german submarine in Scapa Flow, but surely there’s a story behing her name?

    @Pottsclock

Well, he had an excellent start in this world cup, still i wait to see him in the Knockout round to be sure of his improvement as a player.

Neither, although I have played on the Queens Head table. It’s a very poor table in a confined space!

I doubt Taco would even waste a homemade coin on it! He plays a different version on snooker / pool club tables.

EGB – I think that’s wearing heavily tinted glasses to say that, I really do. Someone could also say something like, “I thought that Bruno had a poor game considering the oppositions legs were already a little tired and he was fresh”.

We don’t need to kiss his arse. He had an ok game from what I saw. Lost the ball a few times but did some decent things. Nothing standout either way.

I wenr to the Scapa Flow museum when on a long weekend on Orkney, well worth a visit if you ever get there.

Scapa Flow was where the Royal Navy based their fleet and was considered safe until a german U boat managed to sneak in to sink the Royal Oak, they then beefed up the defences by sinking a few old ships across the entrance and they are still there today as rusting hulks.

It is also where the German fleet ended up after their surrender but the Germans scuttled them so the British could not use them and there they lie to this day.

Those lads didn`t seem to have a lot of space to play either on that video link i sent, when i played in the Craigavon Pool league back in the day i hated playing opposing teams where there was very restricted space to play the shots, at least there was always a good excuse if i played a bad shot 😀 😀 We can have a few games when i come over again in April Wor B mate.

#19 good C&P then mate… Was a good one! I really hope they play Wilson. But please hold up above. We don’t want to see a Wilson injury if he does get a start.

If he does start I think we will see a goal or 2 from him. As I believe England will really go after Wales tonight to put the flames out and blow the cobwebs away from the USA dire performance.

I think we will spank them 4:0 tonight with a Wilson brace (if he plays) if he doesn’t play then 1:0 England with a 21min of injury time Pope Bruno type diving header he picked up from him in training 😉

I believe the name royal oak comes from a tree in Shropshire which the future king Charles the second took refuge in while trying to escape the clutches of Olly Cromwell and the parlimentarians.

Where you going for a pint before the game mate, as I said to the lads I’m going with I’d go to a bar/pub where wor lot are. Not sure if you know yet or will know closer to the time but let me know if you can. I’ll even get the rounds in Raj. That’s the type of kid I am

We may get to see Bruno in the final group game from the start. Let’s see how he does. Brazil have rarely got out of third gear so far. Their defence has not been tested yet.
I shall be watching the Ecuador vs Senegal game with great interest. The South Americans have started well. The Senegalese are more functional.

    Raj,

#31 it’s why I would love us to smash them all over tonight mate. They seem to hate the English. It’s strange as we don’t really hold any animosity towards them it’s more the Scottish historically. But I was aware of the Iceland carry on and them crazy scenes in Tenerife a few days ago. A bunch of pissed up fat slops fighting each other…embarrassing!!!

I hope we beat them convincingly tonight. I really do think we will mind you. Wales are playing terrible, I think their heads have gone

Aye, there’s lots being made of Wales capitalising on emotions and passion to beat England.

If it comes down to technical ability England are clearly the better team, but we’ve all seen games lost by the better team!

I think we’ll have too much for Wales tonight regardless of how much they are up for it.
