Over the weekend, it was reported that Newcastle have identified Vasco da Gama midfielder Andrey Santos as the top target for the winter window. The Northern Echo claimed the Magpies were set to make their move after months of links to the playmaker.
However, Sport Witness is citing a report from France’s Le10Sport that Santos is close to committing to Chelsea, who seem to have come out of the blue for the talented teen. Barcelona was Newcastle’s closest competitor according to recent reports.
The French outlet’s angle on their report is that Chelsea have edged not only Newcastle and Barcelona but also PSG for Santos. There is some discrepancy in the reporting as the price quoted is just €15m which is around half of his previously reported valuation.
If this report is accurate, with considerable emphasis on the ‘if’, Newcastle have other budding stars on the shortlist. There are continual reports that Velez Sarsfield playmaker Maximo Perrone is high on the wishlist.
The Argentine club’s sporting director is none other than former Magpie Christian Bassedas, who roamed the midfield at St. James’ Park in the early 2000s. Newcastle World recently reported that Bassedas was on Tyneside to tie up a deal for Perrone. Though the claim arose from a podcast in Argentina.
Whether it’s Santos, Perrone, or another young gem, Newcastle are determined to add youthful quality to the ranks in January. Garang Kuol’s move becomes official while links to right-backs Harrison Ashby and Cody Drameh refuse to dry up.

Comment #88Typical, that fk position couldn’t be more PERFECT for Trippier. Left of the goal, 25-27yrds out.

Comment #89USA tend to have the ball and Iran is proceeding by counter attack ( and just created a big chance ).
Lads, as i’m watching this game, i rely on you to have some coverage of England vs Wales!

Comment #99So far, so bad. England playing into Wales’ hands.
Passing is slow and passive. Wales will be delighted with crosses coming in to the box as their central defenders will soak them up.
We need to play through them.

Well, to be honnest, Iran vs USA isn’t extraordinary from a technical point of view, but so much tension…
An US player just delivered an ice Hockey style tackle on an iranian player…

Comment #102Yep, they have definitely settled into a team that doesn’t look nearly as dangers as they did in the first 15 mins.
If England want to hammer Wales then Wilson and Trippier need to come on, their 3 best players are all on the bench 😉

Ponderous moving it to the wings.
We need corners and set pieces to score.
There is nothing through the middle.
Feels like we’ve set up not to lose (ie draw)

Comment #105I remember an Ice Hockey European semi Prague vs a Swedish team at the O2 in Praha. I asked why the netting between the away fans and the goal. Why so many stewards, I found out in 2nd period when Sparta Praha went 2-0 up. Full out riot and nets stopped beer from reaching the ice
