Two Targets For Vulnerable Position Appear Destined For January Exits

In the week leading to the start of the World Cup, there was a report from The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards that Newcastle’s sudden surge up the Premier League table would not alter their approach to the winter window.

The report maintained that Newcastle would focus on adding strength in depth and only pursue a marquee signing should one of their top targets become available; generally a remote prospect in January.

However, Edwards did state that one position remains a priority to solidify. Eddie Howe and company will look to add a young right-back in the winter window to provide add cover for Kieran Trippier, who is currently getting plenty of action in this World Cup.

There are two clear favorites to end up at St. James’ Park as Trippier’s heir apparent – Leeds’ Cody Drameh and West Ham’s Harrison Ashby. Both are enduring difficult times at their current clubs and are expected to be jettisoned in January.

Ashby was a summer target with a deadline day move blocked by Hammers boss David Moyes. The right-back has made just three appearances this term and with his contract running out next month, has firmly rejected extending his West Ham stay.

The Scotland U21 international is almost certain to be available for a modest fee as West Ham will want something for their academy product rather than allowing him to leave for nothing in the summer. Newcastle’s interest appears likely to transcend to the winter.

Drameh’s situation at Elland Road has been similarly frustrating with first-team opportunities hard to come by. After a superb loan spell with Cardiff, the soon-to-be 21-year-old entered the summer with hopes of increased chances under Jesse Marsch.

However, his situation has deteriorated and he’s not made a matchday squad since making his lone start in the 5-2 defeat at Brentford in early September. He has since been demoted to playing with the U21s.

The Yorkshire Evening Post is reporting that Leeds will entertain offers for Drameh with Newcastle reportedly in contact with his representatives. His contract will have just 18 months left to run when the winter window opens.

It appears that Newcastle could have their pick of Ashby or Drameh, who’ll both be 21 when the window opens. With Howe short at right-back due to Emil Krafth’s knee injury and only Javier Manquillo in reserve, either would be a welcome addition to the ranks.

TDS – Declan Slices forward passes are 4 yard passes and Seans are 20 yard passes.

Lobby all day. He has been amazing this year. Wouldnt swap him for the plodder.

Sean looks forward first then goes back, Rice never looks forward. He is utter dogshit and a passenger in most games.

Most overrated defensive midfielder since Eric Dier. Remember him. Good stats an all but no midfielder. Gareth’s other love child in the middle of the park.

I agree with the not doing business with them Clint, unless they are going to pay the 6M fee to buy Dubs which they won’t.

For me it was a theoretically debate about squads not actual potential signings.

Same for me Taco and Clint. I can’t see us doing business with Man Utd and I said that in our last post. Unless we snap up a player for a bargain when his contract is running down and he’s fed up with playing for a club in a total mess, then it’s not going to happen. We don’t want any of their cast-offs and their top players would cost a fortune if they’ve got a few years left on their contract.

Don’t care if we play Netherlands or Senegal. We should beat them both.

2nd place and we’ll play at 3pm on Saturday while I’m at a spa hotel with the missus. 1st place and it’s 7pm on Sunday when we’ll be back home but I sometimes play tennis. Would obviously not play tennis if we win the group…

    @Mister

First, “our boys” were foreign mercenaries… anyway, we will never know cause this story is only based on the declerations of that woman alone.

    @Clint

The games are on TF1 and Bein sport. TF1 is on free access, but they got only some games, generally those considered the most interesting before the start of the competition ( so with the big teams, hence the choice of England ).
For Bein, you got to pay, and i didn’t.

I would expect England will win the group and play Senegal. I dont think the match will be an entertaining spectacle though.

I Also think USA will beat Iran. If things look dicey in the 2nd half the US can call in air support from their base nearby!

I want to see England to stamp their authority in tonight’s game. A team cannot turn form on and off like a tap.
I thought we had genuinely set our stall out after the Iran performance but the USA match was terrible.
If it is the same again tonight I think anyone thinking we will beat Netherlands are Senegal are being extremely optimistic.

Can’t find figures about how many US Soldiers in Qatar in 2022, but could be as many as 10 000.

So i guess some of them will be at the game, and perhaps some from bases in other country in the area.

TDS – I have watched Declan Rice with the scrutiny of a stalker as always hope for a midfielder who may be a worldy.

He never has been close to actually being a midfielder. Would be miles behind Rob Lee and Gary Speed, Didi Hamaan, who all could defend but played progressive passes.

He’s like a poor Nicky Butt, who again was again a mobile midfielder. Why this type of player has disappeared from our game is a mystery.

Eddie will find one. The new Michael Essian would do. There is not one decent combative midfielder in the world.

It is a disgrace. I do like Kovotic mind from chelski. Hard, battler, carries the ball forward tho and can produce a good goal. Would be class for the toon.

It’s tiresome. It’s never ending, why does one person think they are never wrong.

Why does one person think they are the most informed person on the planet.

Never shows humility, Mr What I say goes and everyone else is wrong.

I don`t expect this England v Wales game tonight to be a classic or easy on the eye, in fact it`s more likely to be an endurance test as most derby matches usually are. If England play anywhere near their potential they should win with ease tonight.
