Newcastle are reportedly interested in Fiorentina winger Nicolas Gonzalez according to a report from TuttoMercatoWeb. The 24-year-old has been in Leicester’s sights this month but Newcastle have made contact recently.

Fiorentina will only entertain ridiculous offers for the Argentina international, who missed last month’s World Cup through injury. He has 21 caps with 3 goals for the World Cup winners.

Newcastle’s contact is most likely preliminary to gauge his interest in a potential summer bid. The attacker’s contract doesn’t expire until 2026 with him very much part of Vicenzo Italiano’s plans.

Gonzalez joined Fiorentina from Stuttgart in July of 2021 for around £20m. He has 52 appearances with 13 goals and 9 assists. He can play across a front three though is generally deployed on either flank.

Leicester’s interest has generated rumors of a pending £30m offer. However, the report maintains that Fiorentina will only listen to bids exceeding £40m, double what they paid less than two years ago.

Gonzalez could rival Leverkusen’s Moussa Diaby in Eddie Howe’s hunt for a wide man next summer. Either would certainly raise the excitement meter at St. James’ Park as both are crowd pleasers on their day.

Thanks for that, was a good little read and seems to lay it out in a pretty good and simple way.
After reading it, my guess is that Chelsea are just playing a high risk game with the length of contracts they’re giving out, in the hope they work and then can balance the spending with player sales the next few windows.
It was interesting to read that Kieran Maguire reckons they only have a £5m loss in FFP terms over the last 3 years. Which explains why they can splash a lot in one go currently.

Hunter was class but he was responsible for that Polish goal in the WC qualifier at Wembley that denied us a WC spot in 74. Tried a soft tackle on the half way line so he could retain the ball and play, when in hindsight he should have cleared player and ball into the stands. Shilton then let their shot pass him under his body. What a calamity that was as we had a good time. It was the start of our wilderness years.

Downie has said the ASM comments are old and misleading. That and he doesn’t believe ASM will go anywhere unless there’s a big offer, which makes sense.
So ASM is probably here to stay for now anyway 🙂

As it’s so quiet, what player do you think we can realistically get this window?
And where would we play them, who drops out of the starting 11?
For me I think we realistically could get Tielemans or Gallagher. Gallagher even on loan maybe.
Then I think they’d be introduced from the bench for a while to replace Willock, then if they impress they maybe could take his starting spot.
That’s not me bad mouthing Willock at all, he’s been fantastic and improving each game. But I think Longstaff’s defensive contributions and improved passing is crucial and Bruno is undroppable for obvious reasons. So Willock would be the potential one to fight for his place with an incoming midfielder.

I really don’t get why they’d waste precious time on him now in Jan if they are going for him in the summer.
I reckon anyone they are in contact with or will be in contact with over the next 2 weeks will be for immediate purchase.

I’m not sure Gallagher will want to swap one bench role for another and move 300 miles away from his family and friends.
I think all signings will be left-field promising talent for Eddie to mentor and coach into greatness…and they will all come from abroad because no-one in England wants to strengthen us.
Such is our meteoric rise! 🙂

Anyone in England I’ll also be very likely to be cup tied so it would mean potential signings might not be able to play in the most important matches.

I get the feeling that currently we have the most chilled out, relaxed fan base in World Football.
No intrigue or ownership issues, great management team with Stellar history between them, probably the best coaching set up currently in the PL and generally performing really well on pitch, to a level above most of our expectations.
So, when Adam or anyone else poses the question “who do want us to buy” – I think most of us are in the mind set of “we don”t give a flying fig, just let Eddie and the boys do their stuff”.
Certainly, I am. Feet up, relaxed, worlds a lovely place if you support NUFC. 😀

My honest feeling is that moves in this window will be late on. You’ll notice that most of the clubs that have already signed players are desperate to sign players, either to stay in the PL or to hit their main target of CL qualification. We don’t need to sign anyone so it’s better to wait and see which clubs and players are pushing for a move late on and therefore available on a good deal.
I suspect the only exceptions will be players for the youth team or if we’re going to lose a key target to someone else and the price is reasonable.
As for the comment last night about £20m players…have you seen the £20m players that are being signed by the likes of Forest, Bournemouth etc? I don’t think we want to be signing those players…most will never be a player in the top 6 of the PL.

Ap, we signed Jordan Hackett in the Summer for the U21’s and so far he’s loving his move “up north” from Spurs. I love it that he says “it’s colder up here, but the people are nicer”.
That’s Geordies for you, in a nutshell. Nice.
If he makes it, he’s our long term LB upgrade. He says the U21’s are now being told to adjust their games to bring it in line with the high press intensity of the 1st team. Good to hear.

Yeh, best time ever to be a toon fan.
Super Kev was a legend. Loved him to bits, but never had faith we would ever see anything thru. Even when so far clear.
We was a flaky team.
Remember getting dumped out the FA Cup every year by dross.
How did that even happen to that team.
Eddie has us in a semi final at his sort of first attempt.
Could it be statue time for Eddie by early March. Surely not..

Afternoon all, nice to see the rumour mill running on full ahead. I too remember “dorty, dorty Leeds”. Different game back then of course. They could play some lovely stuff but my abiding memory is of Peter Lorimer. Man, what a shot he had!

I know how slow it’s been, I’m writing the script for a new tv series where an AI version of Auto Correct tries to take over the world, in the form of PAC Man. PAC stands for personalised auto correct and it insidiously starts to drive us all mad by changing everything we write/type. A competitive software company develops an AC translator app that allows us to counteract the threat, but there’s a glitch in the programme and we all start writing in Swahili despite not having a clue what it means.
Currently in “development” which means (thankfully) it will never see the light of day. 😀

I have an update on what's happening with my treatment for prostate cancer.

Last week, my oncologist called me late in the day and said he thought it was best to terminate my treatment with radium 223 dichloride because it was having such a negative effect on my health - specifically my digestive system.

I had completed 3 of the planned 6 infusions.

They had looked at the bone scans and three CAT scans I had early last week, and they showed no signs of the cancer spread being slowed or stopped: in fact, it was continuing to spread and my PSA account continued to rise.

The only treatment left now is to go back and have another bout of chemotherapy with docetaxel being the medication used.

I understand this will be a 7-month job with 10 sessions 3 weeks apart - almost double my first chemo treatment in Apil 2017, when I has 6 treatmnts.

The problem I have is that I'm in a very poor physical state right now, due to my digestive system being basically torn apart by the radium 223.

The radium 223 has leaked into my digestive system and caused me to have severe diarrhea, nausea, and heartburn, and it was (is) very serious.

They said it was too dangerous to proceed with the radium 223 treatment, with little benefit being shown.

I am also suffering from severe exhaustion, basically, because I have zero testosterone, and all the treatments I've had for the cancer, have further lessened the energy available to me.

It reminds me of the saying that if cancer doesn’t kill you - the treatment will (laugh).

It will probably take up to 8 weeks to get back to a physical state where I can start chemotherapy, and that's where I am now, but the cancer continues to spread in the bones.

I've also been put in touch with the dietitian from UNC Healthcare, who will help me get back my health - she is very helpful.

So that's where it stands it's been quite a journey over 12 years and I think I've had almost every treatment available.

It has really taken a toll on my body and on my energy, but that's where it stands and obviously, I'll do the best I can in the upcoming months with chemo and hope I can get through it.

It is as it is - and another challenge in life.
