Loaning Out Third-Choice Magpie Wouldn’t Benefit Newcastle

Claims have emerged this week that Nottingham Forest are trying to bring Chris Wood in on loan. The latest on this front comes from Charlotte Duncker with The Times.

According to the report, Forest boss Steve Cooper is hoping to add the experienced striker in their battle against relegation. Nottingham Forest are currently out of the drop zone in 13th after a string of positive results.

Forest have continued their summer spending during the winter window. The club have already added Brazilian duo Gustavo Scarpa and Danilo, who cost £16m. This comes after a summer spending spree that saw 23 new arrivals for an outlay of over £135m.

Among those signings were strikers Taiwo Awoniyi and Emmanuel Dennis. While Awoniyi has impressed, Dennis has made just 5 starts under Cooper with both parties now wanting a separation. In theory, Wood would replace the Nigerian in Forest’s squad.

There is one glaring issue with this report. Eddie Howe highly unlikely to sanction a loan move for Wood. That serves little benefit to Newcastle as he would have to be replaced with no incoming cash to fund another striker.

Both Callum Wilson and Alexander Isak have had their injury woes this season so a third option is a must down the stretch. Howe has also consistently praised Wood, who is reported to be very happy at St. James’ Park.

    Read that 2023 you can spend upto 90% of turnover, 2024 80%, 2023 70%.

Looks like Chelsea are spending heavy to navigate this rule….

(only rationale reason I can think of)

I’m sure Chelsea had sanctions before, where they where not allowed to buy or loan players, for a certain period of time, but it was deferred for a season,
So they just bought loads of players that season, and it didn’t make any difference.
They always find away around it.

Agree with the article title… what’s the point of loaning Chris Wood out?

Loan with obligation and were talking. Although I’m calling bs on this rumour since Denis can’t get a game for them and he’s simply better than Chris Wood

When it come to singing, british fans ( english, scottish, irish, welsh ) are the best in the world.

South american fans are good as well, but british stadium’s song are either more funy or more beautifull.

The only contenders are north african fans who got really impressive ( and long ) songs, which generally do not only speak about Football but of political and social matters as well.

To give you an example, this song of Kénitra’s fans ( Kénitra is a city in Morocco, the club is the Kenitra ahtletic club or KAC ):

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-OlSOhkUZYY

Except perhaps for the religious aspect ( which is almost natural in Morocco, different culture ), i really find this chant beautifull and impressive.

Be a very strange one. Have to imagine we’d have a replacement lined up, but then surely we’d want cash and to sell him not loan him?

Altough being quiet liberal for the arabic world, the regime in Morocco is stil authoritarian, most people simply strives to live in descent conditions, and stadiums are the only places where they could express their anger.

In North Africa, we use the word “Hogra” to describe injustice or oppression, and you will hear it in each stadium.

    Irish Rob

Hi Rob, it`s easy to say we don`t have that luck unfortunately, but in life we usually make our own luck, just like we were very lucky Rafa was the manager who invited Amanda Staveley to that Newcastle v Liverpool match, and the rest is history as they say mate, it`s very doubtful we would be in the very fortunate position we are in today with these amazing owners if that meeting with Amanda had not occurred, that`s just one of the many reasons i`ll always treasure what Rafa Benitez done for us Bob.

    Haha cheers

Its not to say I don’t want him I most defo do!!

But 80 million is just getting chucked about like confetti for players these days and its only a Man Utd, Chelsea, PSG, Barca and Madrid who pay that kind of money inflating the market meaning we get priced out for players at the moment

I mean Leverkusen are within their rights to ask for that kind of money but I doubt there will be takers but we shall see!

Niafron – I love a good football chant, to get my 5 year old to stop singing Christmas songs I thought him the Joelinton (slightly censored) & Nick Pope songs. He sings them in the mornings now to wake me up

Two comments. Did we hear a sniff of Isak before he was virtually on the plane over here. Also only really 48-72 hours notice re Bruno. So I am confident if they want someone they can get them in with little fuss.

Secondly re Everton. This time feels different, they are in the bottom 3 early doors , can’t really afford to change manager and their sugar daddies money is tied up with the Ukrainian war. Deals are there to be done in the summer if they have a fire sale but not in Jan

Both Bruno and Isak seemed to happen extremely quickly and out of nowhere. I’m hoping we get a nice surprise like that again. If Wood does go on loan then you’d imagine we’re looking to get an attacker in. Maybe a move for Pedro again to cover striker and wide attacker?

Quite an interesting topic on a podcast I listen to, I might have mentioned it. They were trying to name £70M+ players that have been a success in the PL and there was only really VVD that they could think of.

Google the ten most expensive PL players, they must have and it’s only VVD that you could call a success. You need to be very careful spending that kind of money.

It has to, Maguire would be a very good defender elsewhere for less money.

Raj – how many £70m+ players have there been in the PL? I know players like Pogba, Lukaku, and Sancho were big money and didn’t perform as expected. Were they all £70m+? Kepa was amazing to start with and was a huge transfer I believe. De Bruyne? If he was over £70m, he has definitely succeeded. Oh…Grealish and Pepe haven’t lived up to their transfer fees either…

Blah. Forest can push for Wood as much as they like. He’s going nowhere unless we get a replacement for him. If we could sign someone with the profile of a Pedro or Ekitike (with the right attitude though), then Wood would be welcome to go. No way would he go without that though.

There’s bound to be loads of chats between clubs, nothing wrong with that. Mostly just media talk when you read about it though.

Assassins – I agree with you. Too much speculation that plays into the hands of the KFAs and very little genuine transfer talk. I’ve said it before that I’m more interested in players the fans think we should sign than the ones the Twatterati and other media hacks make up.

I don’t believe that a single transfer link mentioned for this window has any known weight behind it. Probably some will have some weight behind them but that’s just luck rather than any insight. You can tell as the serious media aren’t saying too much about our transfer links.

I would definitely loan out Wood but must be an option to buy included in the deal, and make it an obligation to buy.
