Newcastle Getting Prepared As Transfer Plans Start To Take Shape – Report

Newcastle’s transfer plans are heating up as interest in a number of Magpies starts to emerge. For this window, Newcastle appear to be operating as a trading club as Sporting Director Dan Ashworth stated prior to the Carabao Cup quarterfinal.

In a new report, The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards examines the current state as the month-long window is now firmly in its second half. A transfer meeting was held yesterday as the club takes stock in potential activity down the stretch. They have not ruled out moving for a top target should it become feasible.

Nottingham Forest’s sudden interest in striker Chris Wood has changed the mood a bit inside St. James’ Park. Eddie Howe wanted to keep Wood as the third-choice striker but a move would allow him to bring in a potential upgrade.

That coupled with recent claims, including from Fabrizio Romano, that Wood has given a thumbs up to moving to City Ground, makes an agreement appear imminent. It was just last month reports emerged how happy Wood was on Tyneside despite getting limited opportunities on the pitch.

Alexander Isak’s return to fitness will limit Wood’s chances even more. He appears to have accepted that his future lies elsewhere, which was likely the case this summer with just 18 months left on his contract.

Other players that could be shifted this month include Ryan Fraser and Karl Darlow. Fraser has wanted to leave since the summer and his wish could be granted this month. Darlow is also seeking first-team football resulting in Loris Karius getting extended until the summer.

No moves have been made for either at this juncture. However, Edwards believes Bournemouth, Everton, Fulham, and Southampton are interested in the Scot. Fraser has been a fringe presence after having some encouraging moments late last season.

Jamal Lewis, who also has seen precious few minutes on the pitch, is a candidate to go out on loan. Jamaal Lascelles wants to remain and re-examine his future over the summer. The long-standing captain has just 18 months left on his contract.

It appears the wheels are starting to creak inside St. James’ Park as transfer movement begins. Wood’s move to Forest could kickstart arrivals as Howe may get the versatile forwards he covets along with a midfielder and young right-back.

    @Dubai

That is a good read! I do remember around about the time they were talking about that and it seems its another tactic to slow us down

There was also chat that all sponsorship is to be assessed for fair market value and all of that so I wonder if end of the season when Castore and Fun 88 go who we will get?

That mock up of an Adidas top with Saudia on the front that was going about online would be amazing though…….

If Chris Wood does eventually go to Forest, wouldn`t it be ironic if the big lad played his part in helping them retain their premier league status in much the same way he done with us.

    Jail,
I’ve never rubbished Wood for the job he has performed at the club!
The previous post was an observation of the comments I’ve read catching up. He was bought to do a job and he did it, we stayed up. But, if he hasn’t fulfilled a role then surely he doesn’t require replacing at all. That what my point.

I’ve always called him Wood man bad due to all the posts I read that he’s utter garbage, especially wor Sparky 😆

    Magic,

Cooper had his preseason when the WC was on more or less pal. Good manager, got a lot about him, and every chance of staying up I reckon. Getting Wood in gives him another option and an even better chance of staying up. I’ve said before and I still say they’ll stay up pal. I’d be more than happy if they do so. Big club Forest, should be in the top flight always.

    How about this…..

In November 2019, Manchester City’s ownership sold a $500 million (£370 million) stake in the City Football Group to the US private equity firm Silver Lake. In doing so, the deal, which valued CFG at $4.8 billion (£3.54 billion), broke a record for sports valuations.

In September 2020, Silver Lake itself received a $2 billion (£1.47 billion) investment from Mubadala Investment Company, which City chairman Al Mubarak, speaking in his role as chief executive of Mubadala, described as an exciting partnership.

The Silver Lake chief executive Durban, who has subsequently taken a seat on the City Football Group board, said he was pleased to deepen the fund’s relationship with Mubadala.

So we give you 2bn and you buy a bit of us for 500m, hmmm, nothing to see here.

Hope Chris does as well as he did for us and achieves the same results for Forrest, he’s played his part and we should be thanking him. Maybe Thuram is a possibility, Eddie will give nothing away. Next news we get is the player in the toon shirt, thats Howe it works now. 🙂

I always thought there’d be a chance that we sell Darlow and Lascelles back to Forest. Didn’t think Wood on loan would be the deal we ended up doing haha I reckon Lascelles would be a good option for them though.

It would be too confusing to refer to the Wood transfer gossip as Woodgate since Woodgate was actually a player for us.

If Lascelles goes anywhere I want it to be to a coastal team so that The Bard can get his head around, “Lascelles sells sea shells by the sea shore. The shells Lascelles sells are surely sea shells.”

    DM,

Sure I read that last year, thought that was all public knowledge. Maybe folk aren’t aware as it was behind a paywall. Good read the Athletic. Think it’s only a quid/month. Think I got a deal when I signed up if I recall.

It’s blatantly dodge mate isn’t it, all entwined in a web. Thing is, the Lake Thing wasn’t a sponsorship deal so the retrospective money back to silver Lake is probably not even looked at.

Like a poor mans Hugo Viana. I liked Viana, got more grief than he deserved.

Remember Louis Saha turning up as a kid an all and getting pelters when it was clear he had great ability. Very quick to shoot down young technical foreign footballers are the toon army.

Rossi on loan an all. Roeder never played him. My god what a player

Few posters on here with blinkers on regarding Chris Wood. He was/is dross for us. £25 mil and £80k+pw. Up there with one of our worst signings. And he did very little to keep us up, no more than some kid out of the reserves could have done

It’s certainly possible to get cash into the club when the need arises and we are properly knocking on the door at the highest level. That’s when it will be needed to cement and sustain our position.
Size of sponsorship monies in the summer will be interesting. Has to be at least 50 million/season for main sponsor which would easily pass market value rules.

Tfb, but by selling a part of CFG it upped the value of it (bearing in mind they initially bought them for 180m or so).

    DM,

It’s just another manoeuvre these folk get around things and inflate valuations isn’t it pal. End of the day CFG is solely owned by matey boy Sheikh. It’s a different scenario to our ownership. Probably easier for them to get cash into Citeh than us.
    I’m thinking 100’s of sponsors paying £999,999/year 😆

    DM,

It’s the subjective nature of the ‘fair market value’ rule that’s intrigues me pal. Would Amanda be prepared to fight the EPL in court over it if they say a deal is too much? In life we pay what we’re prepared to pay for something don’t we?
