Newcastle have reignited interest in Everton’s Anthony Gordon according to dual reports from The Telegraph and The Mail. The 21-year-old was the subject of a summer bid that was summarily rejected by Everton.
Newcastle didn’t linger on Gordon as Chelsea soon swooped in with a mammoth offer. That too was rejected with Gordon remaining at Goodison Park where he has struggled to have the impact of last season.
Newcastle believe Everton will now be open to offers for the English winger as the need for cash to save a floundering season has become paramount. Everton are in the drop zone without a win since October in any competition.
Gordon showed promise last season as he was a bright spark in an otherwise forgettable period. Everton avoided the drop with by defeating Crystal Palace in the penultimate match of the campaign.
The winger could be the wide player Eddie Howe wants to bring in, though he doesn’t possess the versatility to lead the line. The one caution is his agitative nature and penchant for theatrics which may not go over well under the professional Howe.
The Sun is also reporting that another struggling Everton attacker remains of interest at St. James’ Park. Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who has had another campaign rife with injuries, is still admired at Newcastle despite his inability to stay fit or find the back of the net consistently.
While Newcastle need to replace Chris Wood, the thinking is Howe wants a player who can fill both a wide role and lead the line. Everton may now be open to selling either Gordon or Calvert-Lewin, there are a few red flags surrounding the pair.

I think the club will have moved on from Etikke can’t really argue with him moving to PSG but long term that will have screwed his career up!!

Comment #4There’s just something immensely unlikeable about Gordon I would prefer we stayed away
A scouse scally who looks like a mixture of Claire Balding and Smeegel from Lord of the rings is not a good combo
Also the whinging and the diving from him he would be more suited to Chelsea for sure

I’m sure if Eddie H was still interested the fans would accept him, but if you asked a poll I think most would say foo# him.

He would have to be immense to win the fans over, it’s a shame he had that clown of a cousin advising him.

Comment #11Raj – in my mind, I still owe you a beer at least. You stole my turn for the round but at least I managed to give you some cash for that!
This is the way.

Just a point on spare tickets,
I have had a few spare tickets over the season so far but never asked for a penny.
Give them to people who are unable to get or afford a ticket.
That’s how it should be or just get your money back!
Unfortunately though there’s always some in it just to make money it’s the same at concerts
Just look at Glastonbury as an example
The same happened trying to get Peter kay tickets sold out in 10 mins but 20 mins later on re sale sites for double the price.
Government should bring in tighter regulations on it.

Comment #13I don’t want young players on loan unless there’s an option to buy. No reason for us to develop players for another club.
Happy to get experienced players on a pure loan though.

Comment #14Gosforthlad – I don’t disagree with having tighter regulations but really it’s more of a matter of existing ones being enforced. That would cost money too.
As I said before, ticket touts wouldn’t be able to do their thing if people stopped buying tickets from touts. Power to the people? There it is in a nutshell.

Comment #20Gordons attitude is truely awful.
Not many players that I really really don’t like.
This chaps one of them.
Id be canny disappointed if we signed him. It’d be a massive error

Comment #21I’m the same as you jail…I’ve never charged anyone anything for a spare ticket, but on the flip side I’ve paid over the odds for all sorts of things over the years…and that there is the problem…when there’s more demand than there are tickets, then people will feed off the frenzy to make a profit.
Such is the world we live in…but more good ‘uns the bad ‘uns means the micro world I live in is good place and we all look after each other.
Amen!

Comment #25Eddie Howe on Chris Wood:
“Chris is having a medical with Forest as we speak, so that’s the situation. He’s been a huge player for us & he’s been outstanding in every way. When we signed him we were in a very difficult position. We can’t underestimate the role he’s played.”

Comment #27Don’t know what to think of the Wood deal. Really didn’t want him in the first place at a ridiculous 25M as I just saw him as a long ball magnet. However, fair play he worked hard and is a good personality to have around.
I was cursing him for the miss v SW which gives us an empty weekend when we should have been playing Fleetwood at home!! If we get reasonable money back then it was a sound investment needed at the time and good luck to him.

Comment #31Morning all, what a most excellent catch up with plenty of respectful debate. It’s taken a while to catch up after my wife slipped on ice Wednesday morning, face planted the car, badly twisting back and hips. Couldn’t move her as she was in agony. Paramedics were there in 20 minutes then off to A + E. In immediately with concerns for the egg on her eyebrow and possible broken ribs and hip. Three x-rays and several shots of morphine later, no broken bones but probable cracked ribs, bruising and the king and queen of black eyes. I knew our NHS was good but I was amazed at the level of caring, not just care.
Anyone wanting to have a crack at the NHS, tell them I’d like a word.
