If we could get Shelvey and Wood off the wage bill that would be unreal

One is never fit and one isn’t good enough

Not sure Shelvey will want to go to Turkey though ? His family will be settled and no sure his head will handle 50 degree sunburn haha

For tickets- could there not be box when purchasing for the name of the person attending which is then printed on the ticket, then the person attending must show id that matches the name on ticket.

Season ticket holders genuinely buying for others could still do so, but would stop people buying and selling on to anyone for profit

Would be really curious to see us shifting toward 4-4-2 with only two midfielders, ASM left, Miggy right and both the 50 Cal and Isak upfront.

But don’t see that happening honestly.

Too many buses the day ahead of a game!!

Raj, it would be more fun if Shelvey didn’t get his hair done but instead got great, big bright white fangs for teeth.

Overall Shelvey has been a loyal servant to the club but he is not the future, he is the past. He can’t run and the odd good pass does not make up for that in our current style of play.

I don’t necessarily buy that Howe rates him. I look more at what Howe does than what he says when it comes to our players cos I know Howe is not going to publicly bad mouth a member of the squad. He didn’t play Shelvey much last season when he was fit which is more telling I think than Howe publicly saying how good he is.

did move on as long as he was replaced but I just can’t see that Happening in this window.

I think Maxi will start on he left. Given we don’t have a replacement for Wood already I can’t see Howe risking starting both Wilson and Isak…if Murphy starts ahead of Maxi then Maxis days are number I think.

    Pope

    Tripps
    Schar
    Botman
    Burn

    Longstaff
    Bruno
    Willock

    Almiron
    Wilson
    Maxi

B&W blood – there are several problems with the ID approach. For example:
1 – it slows down entry
2 – it penalises certain people who don’t actually have ID
3 – there will always be some people who forget ID

Two great posts there. Agree with the actions over words post, Howe is excellent and media management. He is never too up or down and everything seems like a well thought out comment when made publicly.

Also agree with the team and the reasons for it.

I’d agree on ID. It’s difficult for all the reasons you say. Plus for genuine reasons, somebody might not be able to make it so a friend/relative may take the ticket instead, then how do you get around that.

I’m never sure if this problem is unsolvable or whether there is a lack of desire to do so.

It may be that artists, sports teams, etc, don’t care so don’t try to stop it as ultimately if tickets are sold, they get their money and at a price they are happy with.

It could also be that there have been a lot of efforts to stop this but ultimately people find a way around them as it is so profitable to do so. Any checks may be so difficult to implement it would slow down entry and create safety risks or other unwanted issues.

I think I’d lean into the later, it’s too difficult to solve, as there are at least some good people who’d want to stop this and they have been unable to do so.

Having lived in Turkey and watched quite a few games on the local telly, I think Shelvey (when fit) would be ideally suited for their league.

    (1) games are much slower and can be dictated by a “playmaker”.
    (2) games all played at night, so no sun burn!
    (3) Istanbul’s a hell of a City and Besiktas play in Black and White – perfect. They’re only classed as Istanbul’s 3rd team but their support is like ours and I was living there when Besiktas won the title, the whole Country went berserk, there were black and white flags scarves and bunting everywhere, brought a tear to my eye.

Do we not think prioritisation should be given to fans that have gone to games through thick and thin whether that be a ST holder or Member as in having an ID number?? Because all of a sudden fans that have gone for decades all of a sudden can’t get a ticket..Which personally i don’t think is fair

The ticketing/touts issue has been a problem for as long as I can remember. I agree with TS there must either be (a) no solution, or (b) any solution is too expensive or causes issues elsewhere, or quite simply it would have been done by now. There were “touts” back in the early 60’s that I know of, so the problem’s existed over 60 years already.

TDS, I know English is an evolving language but that one takes some beating. I wish it a (very) short life.

Niafron, a version of 4 4 2 worked very well for us against Fulham. If Palace have prepared for 4 3 3 it may give us an early advantage.

Taco – I think it’s the latter too. That’s why I’m more for personal responsibility. But some people don’t like that. I think the more it’s frowned upon, then the fewer people will do it. Less demand, price decreases, then supply decreases to increase the price, and economies of scale are reduced. Economics innit.

jazzyp – I can see the argument about it being unfair but the club needs to attract new fans and also attract some fans back to the club who perhaps boycotted the games during the Ashley days.

As far as I’m concerned, as long as they go to proper fans and the majority of the profit goes to the club then I’m happy. ST holders and members will obviously get priority but I wouldn’t agree with prioritising a fan who has been there for 20 years over a brand new ST holder, perhaps who has only just been able to afford it.

With tickets, the only way I can see getting around scalping entirely or massive increases in re-sales, is to change it to an E-Ticket type system. So you create an account online or on an app which your ticket goes to. Once you have it, it’s then locked to that account and can only be accessed via that account, so you can’t sell it on. You could also have the account registered to only one device, so say it’s your mobile phone, nobody can log in to your account on a different phone. To stop people selling their log in so someone can access the ticket on their own phone.

When you get or receive your ticket(s) you have to confirm you’re attending at least 24 hours before the match on the online system or ticket app. Anyone who doesn’t confirm 24 hours before kick off, their ticket is then placed on member sale again on a first come first served basis and is then sent out as an E-ticket to whoever purchases it.

If you can’t attend anymore or the other person you got a ticket for can’t attend, you return your ticket on the online/app system and like those who haven’t confirmed, it then goes on to members sale again.

Means that every seat has to be confirmed 24 hours before kick-off or they go on sale again. So should mean that you get far less empty seats. You might still have people who buy a ticket that goes on re-sale and don’t show up, but would still fill more seats I reckon and stop crazy re-selling.

Sorry, I have a free afternoon at work so thought i’d try construct an idea and bore you all with it 🙂

    Jimiley,

No, it’s not an excuse not to do something. It’s a rule in place to ensure clubs don’t spend beyond their means. Just because PIF are worth trillions doesn’t mean a jot. Our commercial revenue is no where near as big as Chelsea’s. Not to mention they’d somewhat curbed spending under the Oligarch and relied more on youth players in recent seasons, which will have meant they’ve built a steady pot to p*ss in. They are blowing it all now in the hope they can buy their way into the top four this season. They miss out, they are potentially in serious trouble.

We’re no where near at that level without outrageously huge new revenue streams which haven’t materialised yet, most likely by design.

Why would you compare us to them and why would you want us to pump millions on players who may or may not wind up being shite in the league?

I far prefer this patient approach, it’s a shite sight more professional.

Jazzp, no easy answer to that.

Exclude all ex-pat Geordies who may have seen them since 1969 and all that but no longer live in the area?

Include everyone who wants to pile in on a winning project?

    Or perhaps, somewhere in between.

I have being following the Woodgate-gate=gate conversations. how about this as an idea.

500 hundred tickets made available in a random draw for Ex=pat Geordies. More than say… 100-150 miles away at least? Exactly 254 miles plus or minus 10 yards would be ideal.

OK I know Old Trafford would be empty on that basis. But I am a prawn less than a full sandwich

Oh dear no, you DON’T forget cracked ribs in a hurry.

I remember Ed Sheeran doing his nut a couple of years ago. He’d organised a charity gig with all proceeds being donated. Touts were re-selling tickets for £1000s. Unsure if he ever found a solution.
