Howe Keen On Transfer Movement But Won’t Give Assurances

Newcastle were again unable to solve Crystal Palace and for the third time this season, the two clubs have battled to a scoreless draw. Newcastle were the far better team this evening as they thoroughly controlled the match for 90 minutes.

The lack of cutting edge in the final third mean Newcastle come away from Selhurst Park with a solitary point. In the grand scheme, it’s a decent result against a well-coached team that defended very well.

Newcastle are missing a creative spark at the top of the pitch to break stubborn defenses down. That is one of the areas the club may address as the January window enters its final ten days.

Chris Wood’s sudden departure to Nottingham Forest could spur the Magpies into action. Howe stated on Friday that he did not want to lose Wood without a replacement. So hopefully, a new arrival is on the horizon.

Howe was asked about the window after tonight’s draw. The Northern Echo has published his response as follows:

“As a manager, you always want more. You always want more options. I’ve got no issue with the squad strength or size, but I think the point I’ve been making is that if we got injuries, we’d be very light, and we’re keen to do business.

“We’re keen to bring a player in that can help us, but, as we know in this window, and I’ve said many times, there’s no guarantee that will happen.

“We want to sign a player, for sure, but I’ve been preparing for this game, so I don’t have any fresh information to give you.”

Ideally, Howe would like to welcome a versatile forward, a midfielder, and a right-back. There will have to be more outgoings before Newcastle can think of adding three new faces.

Hopefully, Newcastle are ready to move for some targets. It remains very unlikely anyone arrives before Tuesday’s semi-final at Southampton. Though Newcastle can move quickly if needed.

Unfortunately, Arsenal have made their move for Real Valladolid’s Ivan Fresneda with the two clubs engaging in talks today. The young Spaniard would be a perfect young signing to work under Kieran Trippier.

Would love for us to sign Bowen. He’d be ideal for us, him or Maddison. No way West Ham would sell this season though and he won’t come cheap.

Hey, I just came on to see what was new, not my fault some are playing games and to busy calling people names on the other thread.

It’s sad all this name calling and very childish, but as I know AP will probably be devastated here’s the UK number he may need: Tel: 0800 689 5652

    Fenham

I think it`s fair to say the general consensus is most fans are reasonably satisfied coming away from Selhurst Park with a hard earned point, i think it was Davas who said earlier Palace have become a bit of a bogey team for Newcastle in recent years mate. That game was always a possible banana skin for us tonight, so it was very rewarding to come away with a point and our league unbeaten run still intact HWTL.

Did you honestly say “if we had a proven striker”
We’ve got a current England International and one of the best young strikers on the planet. It was one of those days.

It’s all about getting the balance right. We would be a different animal with marauding fullbacks in the mould of Reece James but where would that leave us defensively? We certainly need a big upgrade at Left back but what’s out there?

TTT from previous thread, yes you could but I’m talking from a nufc perspective. If we’re having 50 odd chances without scoring, you either have opposition GK having wonderful 90 mins vs nufc or your strikers need to start converting their chances. Were it not for Pope wonder save, we’d have lost tonight.

Yes Raj, but as above If we’re having 50 odd chances without scoring, it’s something of concern for Eddie. Without a Pope wonder save tonight we’d have lost.

Exactly that. I knew it was going to be a close game and by no means a classic. Southampton used to be wor bogey team we settled that this passed year. Next up is Palace to get that monkey from our backs.

I’m happy with that draw as we played well and there will be a reaction from the result.

    Howay the lads and lassies.

    Eddie is the man.

Howe’s record of 15 league games without defeat is the longest top-flight unbeaten run in the division from any English manager in the Premier League era.

OK OK, I understand some are saying we are reaching beyond our expectations but WHY , when we’re in the dizzying heights of top 4 don’t we sign at least 1 out and out striker?
Pay the going rate (probably extortionate)like all the top clubs have to and get on with it ffs …moan now and suffer later if we dont

All I’m saying is if we’d converted a few of those chances, we’d be in a better situation in the league.

I’m not frustrated about our season, it’s the complete opposite, I’m thrilled to bits and personally I had us down for top 8 and a decent cup run as a canny season so anything more is amazing.

Why are we waiting to bring in fresh faces? what is actually going on unless we have made signings behind the scenes and nobody has let onto it this is getting worrying.

We are desperate for new faces in to freshen the team up and continue our momentum after a fantastic first half to the season.

Chelsea have spent 100 million on 1 player and a further 30 million on Madueke, and they don’t have anywhere near the funds we have at our disposal.

All it takes is one or two of our first team players to get injured and we are in real trouble, as we have nobody to fall back on and our standards drop tenfold when we bring the likes of murphy shevley ect on.

We need competition for places, we need fresh faces in the squad, Trippier needs competition for that rb slot as his performances have dopped lately, he is nailed on week in week in week out as we don’t have anyone to challenge that spot.

Almirons performances have dopped off a bit after that purple patch where he was a world beater, we need a quality rw brought in as a starter to challenge almiron as he’s too secure in that position.

Longstaff is a good solid pro and a good squad player but he just isn’t good enough for what we are aiming for. he makes too many mistakes and gets dispossed too often. we need to bring in a new midfielder of premier league quality to take him out of the first team.

Maddison is the player we need, I have said it for months and months. someone who can score from distance and can link our attack with our midfield with great forward runs and defence splitting passes. we don’t have that in our team, and haven’t for a while.

We missed out on paqueta and he would of been much better than Longstaff playing alongside his best mate bruno.

We cant let this opportunity slip by not strengthening our squad and quickly.

People are happy with where we are at the minute and so am I, but one or two injury’s and we are nackered, imagine if botman and bruno got injured…

Press on and get some players in to keep our league position, then in the summer we can attract real quality if we get champions league football at this club.

Spot on Fenham, i think most of us remember Southampton being a real bogey team for the Toon, and you can even stretch it back to when they played at the Dell, lets hope we lay that bogey to rest in the semi final Fenham lad HWTL

Frustrated! Is that allowed? Any away point is good, but we were so much better than them, disappointed we couldn’t score.
That’s not saying that I’m not over the moon where we are, surely everyone can have a little bit of a moan, do some posters sit and watch and never get worked up and scream when we keep heading straight at the goalie.
    That must be just me.
