Howe Keen On Transfer Movement But Won’t Give Assurances

Newcastle were again unable to solve Crystal Palace and for the third time this season, the two clubs have battled to a scoreless draw. Newcastle were the far better team this evening as they thoroughly controlled the match for 90 minutes.

The lack of cutting edge in the final third mean Newcastle come away from Selhurst Park with a solitary point. In the grand scheme, it’s a decent result against a well-coached team that defended very well.

Newcastle are missing a creative spark at the top of the pitch to break stubborn defenses down. That is one of the areas the club may address as the January window enters its final ten days.

Chris Wood’s sudden departure to Nottingham Forest could spur the Magpies into action. Howe stated on Friday that he did not want to lose Wood without a replacement. So hopefully, a new arrival is on the horizon.

Howe was asked about the window after tonight’s draw. The Northern Echo has published his response as follows:

“As a manager, you always want more. You always want more options. I’ve got no issue with the squad strength or size, but I think the point I’ve been making is that if we got injuries, we’d be very light, and we’re keen to do business.

“We’re keen to bring a player in that can help us, but, as we know in this window, and I’ve said many times, there’s no guarantee that will happen.

“We want to sign a player, for sure, but I’ve been preparing for this game, so I don’t have any fresh information to give you.”

Ideally, Howe would like to welcome a versatile forward, a midfielder, and a right-back. There will have to be more outgoings before Newcastle can think of adding three new faces.

Hopefully, Newcastle are ready to move for some targets. It remains very unlikely anyone arrives before Tuesday’s semi-final at Southampton. Though Newcastle can move quickly if needed.

Unfortunately, Arsenal have made their move for Real Valladolid’s Ivan Fresneda with the two clubs engaging in talks today. The young Spaniard would be a perfect young signing to work under Kieran Trippier.

Agreed magic, even if we get a draw and bring them back to the cathedral on the hill which will be a cauldron of noise with high emotions will blow them away.

But I think we will get a win at St Mary’s anyway. Southampton will have no other choice but to come at us and to their peril.

I’m sure they’ll have some one lined up.
We just need to freshen the team up , have competition so we don’t rest on our laurels.
We have done amazingly, it would be a shame not to build on our great first half of the season.

Frustrated! Is that allowed? Any away point is good, but we were so much better than them, disappointed we couldn’t score.
That’s not saying that I’m not over the moon where we are, surely everyone can have a little bit of a moan, do some posters sit and watch and never get worked up and scream when we keep heading straight at the goalie.
    That must be just me.
    MOM Joe Willock.

I’m sure NUFC will have a plan in place this transfer window and being in the required personnel that is needed as we build and move forward. No way will we rest on our laurels. We will bring in the right players to fit within Eddies squad.

It’s going to be an interesting last 10 days of the window. I’d reckon 2 players at least possibly 3. Hopefully a marquee one amongst them that will really freshen things up.

Disappointed. That can be the only way to feel after that.

Dominated every aspect of game, but looked toothless (again).

I mentioned this earlier in Season at least once since and again here we are unable to put away at least one opportunity from a double digit attempts total.

Am I pleased about our season – hell yes.
Am I pleased about our record breaking run – hell yes
Am I pleased about our astounding run of clean sheets – hell yes
Am I enjoying watching us play – hell yes.

But in front of goal, I’m pulling out my hair in frustration. Let’s be honest, without Miggy’s incredible goal run, we’d be mid table. Goals win games and we aren’t getting any due to (mostly) our 2 x strikers being missing for most of season. Now they are back, it takes a few games to get the “match sharpness” back. I’m hoping they’re at it now and we’ll see the benefit soon.

Overall, I’m an extremely happy bunny and I’m certainly not one of the “entitled” generation who want it all and want it now, but preferably without working for it.

This club is doing great, the team are doing great, some of our play is fab to watch, we just need to add some goals. 😀

Bob. It’s more frustrating as we were much the better team, but onwards and upwards, there’s a little matter of a semi final to win.
It makes no difference to me where we finish, and it’s great how much we’ve improved, teams are now playing us the way we had to play against every team.
I hope we get a couple of players in, but if not then I’ll be ok, and hope for the best.

I tend to agree with Dean. We can all appreciate where we are , but we need to kick on. We don’t create or finish clear chances and the club needs an injection.

Arsenal getting Feesneda, if that happens , a d watching Chelsea hoover up expensive talent, is annoying, no doubt about it.

We cannot waste this chance, although Europe could stretch us heavily

I think some of our attacking play needs freshened up whether that’s a transfer, change of personnel or a slight chance in tactics

We are creating some chances but they aren’t great ones and the keepers are hardly making wonder saves recently

Almiron, Wilson and even Trippier seem a bit jaded with our get it to the byline and cross it teams are defending it easily

Murphy again looks better coming off the bench involved in the Fulham goal and he did more than ASM who should have scored the last chance

ASM looks so predictable on the left would be much more effective on the right side

Let’s put it this way…Along with Leicester when they nearly got relegated that season, then the season after walked the EPL to win it. Has there been any other team in European history to have such a seismic shift in the right direction in football history than what the toon have had since the TO?

I think we eclipse Leicester on the basis that we as a club would have potentially done a Sunderland if it (TO) didn’t happen. Let’s seriously not get ahead of ourselves and respect the work that has been done and is going to be done as we move forward. We have belief, trust, hope back when it was so cruelly stripped away from us by the previous disgraceful regime, however we mainly stuck in there because we love our club NUFC.

We are now going to reap the rewards and be provided with events we have only dreamed of previously. We are still building and moving forward. The foundations seem to be in place now with the critical infrastructure and positions filled to plan accordingly and correctly. The next level is winning things. That’s now our goal and IMO it’s just around the corner. We’ve won nothing in my whole lifetime and with the set up, from our CEO, to Directors, to Management, to back room staff to the squad we are nearly there. The final piece of the jigsaw is now building the squad to stay where we and improve and to keep challenging on as many fronts as we move forward. After this season into next, after 2 transfer windows we will be classed as an elite club. We are at least 2 years ahead of the curve and original planning, we must be even those in power didn’t expect where we are and have become. Imagine if we got relegated last season, that would have put the project back at least 2 years. Yet we escaped relegation because Eddie broke EPL records as he is still doing right now. Record after record getting broke by the great man. We are in the safest of hands and it’s why I mentioned earlier…We are about to go on one hell of a journey. Keep the faith people!

    Onwards and upwards

    HWTLL
