Newcastle At Crystal Palace – Team Prediction, Injuries, And Fan Expectations

Newcastle have a chance to climb back into third place with a result this afternoon at Crystal Palace. Manchester United are just 1 point above with a difficult trip to Emirates looming on Sunday.

Eddie Howe’s team selection is a point of intrigue heading into the match. Bruno Guimaraes has reportedly recovered enough from his ankle injury to make the traveling squad. Allan Saint-Maximin and Alexander Isak will also be itching to start.

I suspect Howe will not risk Bruno for the full 90 minutes. Allan Saint-Maximin hasn’t started in the league since August and will be motivated to impress should he get the nod. I suspect he will with Joelinton moving to the midfield.

This is the team I predict Howe to name this evening with Saint-Maximin in for Guimaraes. The bench would be a strong one with Bruno and Alex available for cameos.

The injury situation looks a lot better if Guimaraes is fit. Both Jonjo Shelvey and Matt Targett are a few weeks away but making progress. Elliot Anderson has returned to training with a chance to make the bench today.

Crystal Palace are in decent shape on the injury front though will be missing starting center-back Joachim Anderson with a calf injury. We could see either James Tompkins or the young American Chris Richards in for the Dane.

Newcastle Injuries

Emil Krafth (knee), Jonjo Shelvey (calf), Matt Targett (heel), Elliot Anderson (calf – fitness test), Bruno Guimaraes (ankle – fitness test)

Crystal Palace Injuries

Joachim Andersen (calf), James McArthur (groin), Nathan Ferguson (undisclosed)

Our poll shows a fanbase brimming with confidence once again. Around 94% expect Newcastle to get something from this match with over 2 in 3 voters predicting all three points.

This is another tricky match against Jekyll and Hyde Palace. A lot could depend on which one shows up. Howe will have the lads primed and ready. Hopefully, three points and another clean sheet are on the way.

geordie157 I was saying yesterday there is no way Howe will risk starting Wilson and Isak given Wood has gone. So it has to be Maxi or Murphy on the left and if it is Murphy then that would suggest Maxis days are numbered.

Anderson is subject to a let fitness test on his calf injury so may not be available.

Don’t want to pour what not onto the what nots but, its great looking to the future with these potential young signings but we need firepower now.. otherwise these young lads won’t be interested if we start to slide down the league

Great to see that Wood started for Forest today.£15M should be coming our way in summer as long as he stays injury free.

JohnJ, it amazes me how many people say Notts Forest. As you say, Nottingham or Forest or Nottingham Forest.

Mind you, we do say Gatesheed!, Monkey Hangers etc.

The drone was inside the stadium so I guess the ref didn’t want it interfering with the players

We are not Notts Forest or Notts county fans so do we care how their fans say it?

And interestingly Hartlepool’s mascot dresses as a monkey. 🙂

I’m hearing reports that wor Mund was flying the drone actually sat in the cockpit taken in Southampton’s tactical set ups to report back to Eddie direct and was also firing poison darts at the Southampton players laced with high toxic germs so the whole team will be out when they play us in the 1st and 2nd legs of the EPL cup Semi Finals…

Further reports suggest that the cloaking device malfunctioned on the drone which meant it was spotted. Mund still manage to take down 4 Southampton players, it’s not yet established who they were. We will learn this tomorrow morning when they are to ill to get out of bed…

Mund me auld mucker and top poster I know you get the craic 😉

Would love to see Everton go down especially with their new stadium.
There’d be riots on the street and the whinging would hit epidemic proportions.

Would have thought it best not to start Bruno – perhaps keep him in reserve in case he is needed in the second half. Better to keep him safe today.

! -0 to the Toon plus a good clogging from Palace.

If I had to pick which teams to get relegated this season it would have to be:

    Everton
    Everton
    Everton

    In that order.

Please football gods make it happen. Their fans are a disgrace to football. They deserve everything they get. I appreciate that not all Everton supporters are vermin, but there is a large element that are. The scenes after their last game outside Goodson Park blocking the road in their little puffer jackets proper little scallies. Get in the Championship with the other vermin club that is the inbred town of Sunderland.
