Newcastle made their move for Brazilian starlet Matheus Franca earlier this week with Fabrizio Romano reporting a proposal of £14m was tabled. 90min is reporting that negotiations are continuing with Flamengo holding out for a bit more cash.
Bayer Leverkusen had a bid of £10m rejected earlier in the window with Flamengo wanting £18m for the 18-year-old. Newcastle seemed to have split the difference with an introductory offer.
Flamengo are open to talks but are currently unwilling to drop their demands. If this report is accurate, then Newcastle could be just £4m away from adding a future world-class star to the ranks.
The Brazilian club is protected with Franca signing a new contract last year to 2027. He also has a mammoth release clause which has been reported to be anywhere from £75m to £87m. Thankfully, Flamengo are not holding clubs to that sizeable fee.
Newcastle are also in continual dialogue with Ivan Fresneda’s representatives, who have flown into the UK twice in the past few weeks. Newcastle are one of a number of Premier League clubs interested in the young Spaniard including Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs, and Manchester United.
As it stands, nothing is imminent and Real Valladolid chief David Espinar stated last week that no offer has arrived. Though he admitted there is a lot of interest in the 18-year-old right-back stating:
“No firm offer has arrived for Fresneda, but there is a lot of interest.
“The club has set a squad cost limit in the summer. We are going to try to reinforce the squad and we are aware that there are players who will leave.”
The interest doesn’t just come from England but across the continent with Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Dortmund, Bayern Munich, and Juventus in the hunt. Newcastle’s chief scout recently watched Fresneda alongside his agent as the youngster put in an impressive performance against Real Madrid.
Fabrizio Romano reported yesterday that further talks are planned in London next week between multiple clubs and the player’s representatives. Fresneda would be an amazing addition along with Franca if Newcastle can fend off the daunting competition.

Comment #7I’d be ecstatic with these 2 youngsters joining our ranks. It really is the way to go, build steady and for the future. Mould them into how Eddie wants the players to be and potential superstars. Rather than spending 100’s millions on current superstars who have potentially built up a bit of an ego and therefore more difficult to fit in with Eddies philosophy and dressing room culture and harmony.
I love the look of these 2 and really do hope there is some legs In getting them in this window.

Aye mate…and, i might be the only way to do it now. As prices become evermore ridiculous, pushed ever up by desperate clubs, trying to compete with great coaching.
We already know how overpriced British players are, but the rocketing of prices euro wide is a thing now, too.

Comment #13Moonraker; I’m not an ITK but I have been told Shelvey has moved out of his home. I heard this before the link to him moving to Besiktas. It could be total bull shit though.

Comment #20Clint. There has to be a price cap introduced per season across the league. USA did it years ago in football (as they call it) Hockey and baseball. Otherwise, every single club is p&&sing against the wall on ever increasing fees.
Is there one person on this blog who thinks £250,000 per week is reasonable?
£13M a year if you ask.

They do tend to sign ageing players!
Novo I doubt he’d sell his house if he moved to Turkey! There’s a lot going on at the moment!
Shelvey not really our way forward so I’m sure Eddie would let him go!

Good post fully agree with what you are saying.
The thing is we have such professionals at the helm now and the club is in its safest of hands in it’s amazing history (IMO) – It is refreshing to see how our great club now goes about its business even eclipsing the Sir John Hall days. Sir John had a vision for NUFC but our new custodians vision is on another planet. Wor club will be very smart and savvy and not get pushed around in the transfer market. I think they’ve already made that point to all.
These 2 players Fresneda and Franca after reading up on them look like they could have huge potential as does Kuol. Build for the future, however I’d like these players to be decent enough to make the bench at least from the start. I know Kuol has gone out on loan. The 2 mentioned above would be good enough to make the squad from what I’ve read and studied. Get them both in

Comment #26Today will be tough but we are the better side and hopefully we grind out a win. The fact that they played mid-week and also Anderson and McArthur are missing for them (which is big for us) will hopefully swing it our way.

It would seem reasonable to cap things.
Tbh, the whole xfer thing is busted, some throwback, needs changing, imv.
Buying and selling people, doesn’t sound good, does it?
Buying someone outta a contract, fair enough, but we gotta move on, hey?

Comment #32On Gordon – if Eddie and Ashworth choose to bring him in, after doing all of the checks and balances in their due diligence, then they he has my backing 100%.
I think what we see from Gordon right now (on and off the pitch) is a reflection of the poor man- and club-management shown at all levels of Everton. The kid has clearly not been appropriately managed/mentored.

If you think of it as a weekly wage it’s obscene, but if you think of it as working in the entertainment industry like film stars it’s justified!
Film or tv stars get paid millions for their part in a blockbuster so why not too footballers?
If you are privileged to perform in front of 50 thousand at SJP and millions on tv world wide, you should be earning mega bucks!
