Newcastle made their move for Brazilian starlet Matheus Franca earlier this week with Fabrizio Romano reporting a proposal of £14m was tabled. 90min is reporting that negotiations are continuing with Flamengo holding out for a bit more cash.
Bayer Leverkusen had a bid of £10m rejected earlier in the window with Flamengo wanting £18m for the 18-year-old. Newcastle seemed to have split the difference with an introductory offer.
Flamengo are open to talks but are currently unwilling to drop their demands. If this report is accurate, then Newcastle could be just £4m away from adding a future world-class star to the ranks.
The Brazilian club is protected with Franca signing a new contract last year to 2027. He also has a mammoth release clause which has been reported to be anywhere from £75m to £87m. Thankfully, Flamengo are not holding clubs to that sizeable fee.
Newcastle are also in continual dialogue with Ivan Fresneda’s representatives, who have flown into the UK twice in the past few weeks. Newcastle are one of a number of Premier League clubs interested in the young Spaniard including Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs, and Manchester United.
As it stands, nothing is imminent and Real Valladolid chief David Espinar stated last week that no offer has arrived. Though he admitted there is a lot of interest in the 18-year-old right-back stating:
“No firm offer has arrived for Fresneda, but there is a lot of interest.
“The club has set a squad cost limit in the summer. We are going to try to reinforce the squad and we are aware that there are players who will leave.”
The interest doesn’t just come from England but across the continent with Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Dortmund, Bayern Munich, and Juventus in the hunt. Newcastle’s chief scout recently watched Fresneda alongside his agent as the youngster put in an impressive performance against Real Madrid.
Fabrizio Romano reported yesterday that further talks are planned in London next week between multiple clubs and the player’s representatives. Fresneda would be an amazing addition along with Franca if Newcastle can fend off the daunting competition.

Comment #43Fair point Moonraker. My point was that too much was being paid. A typical film star might do 2 films a year and there is probably 10 who can command £10M per film.
EPL has 220 starting players, plus more than that in reserve.
As the old saying goes…. “How to make a small fortune in football? Start with a large fortune”

I’m with you on players renumeration, as they say when they don’t wanna call it wages.
Working class being paid big bucks, all for it!
It’s the system of buy/sell that needs sorting.

Comment #45Couple of bits:
– we often moan on about players but don’t necessarily appreciate/see everything. I hadn’t appreciated Murphy’s role in last week’s winner: https://twitter.com/edit_kev/status/1616434448224120832?s=61&t=CU3qAX8EiTBZXiTlow3BJQ
– some Twitter chatter that Bruno will start (from someone who has been right with team leaks previously) so no Maxi or Isak. Let’s see if that turns out to be true.

Comment #50Gordon I can live but DCL.? Are you kidding me? He makes Wilson look like King Kong. Why spend money on a guy that will spend more time in the sick bay than Wilson. Crazy idea. Isak Wilson and DCL. Win treble.
Rumour has it that Murphy will start over Max. More madness. One is useless and the other is world class on his day. On a bad day he is better than Murphys best

Comment #52Please please not Gordon. A kid with a nasty, highly aggressive and temperamental streak and not the kind of personality Howe has been seeking for the Toon. As for the non-achieving Zyech at 29 years old? No thanks – even on a loan situation.
Regarding Fresneda and Franka, yes please but lets get in and buy them before Chelsea and City take them. We’ve already lost a couple of apparently future superstars in our much researched Perrone and Santos. I get the impression no one seems to dare make a purchasing decision at the club at the moment in case it doesn’t work out.
Oh and what happened to that other South American ‘wonder boy’ Gabriel we heard so much about in the early days before the window. Is that dead too?

Comment #53EGB, TDS is smuggling kipper into the ground. Will give to Trips. When Zaha goes down he can legitimately state, “I wasn’t me, it was the kipper” At which point he gets sent off as VAR insists he said skipper.

Comment #54Jimiley. I agree re DCL. I cannot see how/why that would happen.
Disagree re Murphy though. He isn’t useless (see Twitter link above I just posted). Also, if Eddie selects and uses him so much, he is clearly seeing something you/me aren’t. I agree Maxi is amazing on his day.

I agree, ASM definitely over Murphy.
Anyway, for me, ASM when fit will terrorise any defence.
Our problem these days is breaking down stubborn defences, he’s a key. He needs a bigger role, if he’s fit.

Comment #58I can’t see us signing DCL from Everton. Howe said he’s not looking for a target man type striker so that would possibly rule him out.
I wonder what his price would be now? Wasn’t it 70m last time we were linked with him? So glad we didn’t get him.

Trust me I could write the book. WordPress in a lot of ways is a pile of poop. At this moment can’t work out why they would want to strip attributes out of tags, as I cant see any potential security implications. If not a core feature, maybe a shonky plugin. I’ll go away and think about it at some point.

I sure hope so my man.
His “look” tells me he’s a bit disillusioned. I’m guessing he isn’t sure himself, it’s touch and go.
But, he has to sort out this injuries thing. Explosive players are often plagued by this

Comment #68These two young players are exactly the types I was hoping we’d go for. A young fullback to provide cover for Trippier and eventually replace him, plus a midfielder. I’ve always thought backups should be young and improving so they can take the position after a few years. Never seen the point in bringing in old backups.

Comment #75If Murphy is selected over Max then he will be gone in the summer.
A top team would buy him for 40 million minimum. Murphy would be sold to a Champ team. Massive difference. How Eddie prefers Murphy defies logic.

Thank you for your email.
As a club we take ticket touting very seriously, however, there is very little we can do as a club without full details of the sellers.
We advise supporters never to purchase tickets from anyone but our official website. We ask supporters if they can send in details if they see people touting tickets and we do try and stop them if we have full details of who they are.
Kind Regards
