Newcastle made their move for Brazilian starlet Matheus Franca earlier this week with Fabrizio Romano reporting a proposal of £14m was tabled. 90min is reporting that negotiations are continuing with Flamengo holding out for a bit more cash.
Bayer Leverkusen had a bid of £10m rejected earlier in the window with Flamengo wanting £18m for the 18-year-old. Newcastle seemed to have split the difference with an introductory offer.
Flamengo are open to talks but are currently unwilling to drop their demands. If this report is accurate, then Newcastle could be just £4m away from adding a future world-class star to the ranks.
The Brazilian club is protected with Franca signing a new contract last year to 2027. He also has a mammoth release clause which has been reported to be anywhere from £75m to £87m. Thankfully, Flamengo are not holding clubs to that sizeable fee.
Newcastle are also in continual dialogue with Ivan Fresneda’s representatives, who have flown into the UK twice in the past few weeks. Newcastle are one of a number of Premier League clubs interested in the young Spaniard including Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs, and Manchester United.
As it stands, nothing is imminent and Real Valladolid chief David Espinar stated last week that no offer has arrived. Though he admitted there is a lot of interest in the 18-year-old right-back stating:
“No firm offer has arrived for Fresneda, but there is a lot of interest.
“The club has set a squad cost limit in the summer. We are going to try to reinforce the squad and we are aware that there are players who will leave.”
The interest doesn’t just come from England but across the continent with Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Dortmund, Bayern Munich, and Juventus in the hunt. Newcastle’s chief scout recently watched Fresneda alongside his agent as the youngster put in an impressive performance against Real Madrid.
Fabrizio Romano reported yesterday that further talks are planned in London next week between multiple clubs and the player’s representatives. Fresneda would be an amazing addition along with Franca if Newcastle can fend off the daunting competition.

Comment #162DrGloom. I agree to an extent. I would not expect or demand an immediate impact.
Howe would want to give him a few games to bed in so we should give him time, if we sign him which I would rather we didn’t.

Comment #165Wood starting alongside another striker. Likely to be more effective that way, it’s how he played before joining us.
Good luck to him!

Comment #167Agreed about Mudrych. He looks a proper player and worth 80 odd million. Handful for any defence except ours?

Comment #170It’s a pity we’re not rich enough yet to compete for players like Mudryk. He’s superb and ridiculously quick. Chelsea will be brilliant next season if they hold on to Potter and we need to buy to strengthen, now. As I keep saying, we need to strike while the iron is hot, because Chelsea are going to be top 4 next year, and Man U aren’t hanging around either.

Comment #183You can tell Mudrych is an 80 million player . He goes to Chelsea who will not get top 4.
We did not go for him did we? In a few years 80 will seem cheap like Madrid buying Ronaldo for 80 million. It seemed a lot but turned out to be a bargain. This lad will prove a bargain at 80 million

Comment #184All successful teams buy the success.
Get a top manager in and give him money and you will win things. Sadly that’s the way the game has gone. No money means no hope

Comment #185Can Potter turn things around Joe Cole?
Well spending half a billion in a few months does help.
No mention of Chelsea buying success
