Newcastle Take Point At Palace In Scoreless Stalemate

Newcastle couldn’t turn possession and chances into three points at Selhurst Park. They take an away point to stretch the unbeaten streak in the league to 15 which is a club record.

No changes were made after a first-half stalemate with Allan Saint-Maximin doing individual warm-ups during the break. Newcastle immediately got the ball into the box but had their shot blocked and cleared.

Wilson had a crack at goal in the 52nd minute from a corner routine. Trippier pulled away after a short corner and whipped a delivery into the box. Wilson flashed his header straight into the waiting hands of Guaita.

Newcastle again sent an effort straight to the Palace keeper a few minutes later. On a break, Almiron peeled away from two Eagles and found Joelinton down the left. The Brazilian struck his shot well but it was straight to Guaita.

In the 64th minute, Palace continued to defend well but were conceding a lot of set-pieces. From yet another corner, Newcastle came tantalizingly close to a breakthrough. Trippier’s delivery was met by Botman, whose header flashed wide of the near post.

In the 69th minute, Howe brought on the arsenal. Allan Saint-Maximin and Alexander Isak made their entrances as Willock and Wilson made way. Saint-Maximin took up duties on the left pushing Joelinton into the midfield three.

Nick Pope was forced to make a critical save in the 73rd minute. Odsonne Edouard and Burn vied for a ball in the box. It was deflected and Jean-Philippe Mateta latched onto it with a blistering effort that Pope parried over the bar. It was Palace’s first effort on target.

Trippier put another enticing ball into the box after some good buildup play in the 79th minute. Almiron played Trippier down the right and his measured cross was met by Isak. The Swede’s header was straight to Guaita; a common refrain for the evening.

Howe threw Jacob Murphy on in the 85th minute for Miguel Almiron to get some fresh legs down the right flank. A few minutes later Murphy was down the right and flashed a delivery across the 6-yard box just missing two Magpies before Saint-Maximin had his shot blocked behind for a corner.

The match ended in another scoreless stalemate between the two clubs. Newcastle move to third in the table with the disappointing result. The Magpies had over 60% possession with 16 shots and 15 corners but no goals.

I predicted a draw and I said I would be happy with a draw. Nevertheless I feel despondent.
Not to worry, if we can play like that on Tuesday we’ll be Wembley bound.

FtC, I don’t see any space between your view and my view. I appreciate everything the team has accomplished. Let’s take Liverpool and Man City out of the equation – we’ve conceded 6 goals in the other 18 games. That’s incredible. But it also means we’ve missed out on some points because we are lacking a goal scorer.

We can say that and be thrilled at the same time.

We’ve played Palace 3 times this season.

    And

We’ve had 52 shots at goal and scored none.

    Says a lot.

Over 20 shots and 15 corners. Impressive stuff for the away team. But never really made their keeper work. The challenge now for Eddie is to introduce a bit more quality into the squad without having a detrimental impact on the morale of the group. The work ethic is exceptional as is the team spirit. We must not lose that. We need to beat Saints, get to a final, and then prepare ourselves for some monumental games rest of season. Home games against the better teams. Time to bloody some noses.

I appreciate your point of view as you are clearer a passionate toon supporter. However cast your mind back to the last time I questioned your viewpoint and that was Miggy. You slaughtered him and I advised you to think again. Then well the rest is history.

Just take a step back calm yourself and think about where we are and where we came from and stop being so entitled. We are NUFC we should never act entitled as to where we’ve came from in such a short time.

Howay think outside the box and appreciate what we’ve achieved and look forward to what we will become and what is on the horizon. We brush ourselves down from a well deserved and earned point and we move on. Worth pointing out, when we don’t get a result which we wanted the lads come out all guns blazing. It’s a winners mentality that Eddie has instilled in the squad. It was etched in the lads faces at the end. They were just as despondent than any of us and that is a good look. A winners look.

I’m not having a go at a passionate fan all I’m saying is please think outside the box and look at the bigger picture.

Satisfied with the result, another clean sheet and another unbeaten. Onto next match, onwards and upwards.

EH and the whole team and club are Edda exceeding expectations this season. But if you stand still in life, you will have others getting ahead of you.

Imagine if we had a proven striker who is able to convert a few of these chances, imo we’d be chasing arsenal down rather than in 3rd sitting and waiting for manure Liverpool spurs to pass us by. I’m delighted with this season, but honestly how many points have we dropped either by referring decisions or inability to convert one of 30 shots?

I think it`s fair to say the general consensus is most fans are reasonably satisfied coming away from Selhurst Park with a hard earned point, i think it was Davas who said earlier Palace have become a bit of a bogey team for Newcastle in recent years mate. That game was always a possible banana skin for us tonight, so it was very rewarding to come away with a point and our league unbeaten run still intact HWTL.
