Another Magpie Could Be Headed Out On Loan This Week

Karl Darlow could soon join the ranks of Magpies out on loan with Hull Live reporting Hull City are closing in on a move for the 32-year-old shot-stopper. The report claims Hull boss, and former tiger, Liam Rosenior is keen on adding Darlow before their match against QPR next weekend.

The Tigers are short at goalkeeper with Chelsea loanee Nathan Baxter rehabbing an elbow injury. The 24-year-old had started 12 straight matches earlier in the season in a battle with Matt Ingram for the number one gloves. Baxter was injured in December and has returned to Stamford Bridge for his recovery.

Newcastle reached an agreement with Loris Karius last week to extend his contract until the end of the campaign. That decision coupled with Martin Dubravka’s recall from his loan spell at Old Trafford means Darlow is free to leave this month.

During his Friday press conference, Howe admitted one of his keepers was likely to leave before the end of the window saying:

“Loris has been excellent. Some really good training sessions among the keepers we have. We have a unique situation with the Carabao Cup because Martin is cup-tied. Probably some late movement there.”

Darlow is reportedly keen on getting more playing time. In each of the last two seasons, he got stints as the number one during Dubravka’s foot injuries. During the first half of the 2020-21 campaign, Darlow played out of his skin in keeping Newcastle away from the relegation places.

Newcastle currently have four senior players out on loan with Chris Wood making his debut for Nottingham Forest yesterday. Ciaran Clark (Sheffield), Isaac Hayden (Norwich), and Jeff Hendrick (Reading) are on loan in the Championship.

Right at the beginning of the Window, Eddie declared “we won’t be doing much this window and what we will do will be closer to the end” – so far he’s done exactly what it says on the tin. 🙂

We have the best defence by a country mile and the sixth best goals for, only narrowly pipped by Lpool who’s 9-0 freak result, skews their scoring record a bit. A minor blip and now Eddie H’s tactics are becoming repetitive. There’s nowt like a slightly disappointing result to bring out the worst in people.

Some great comments today. Regarding a signing/transfer and a striker, Eddie was quite clear in his press conference when asked about replacing Wood, that he wasn’t looking at a like-for-like replacement. That is, he seemed to indicate he was wanting more of a creative, attacking midfielder/no.10/winger that can chip in with goals and making chances.

    Fenners,
You know when you reply to someone’s post, you have a habit of pasting, name date and time of post. It’s very hard to tell whether you’ve pasted their whole comment or are just replying to them and the post is yours, could you either leave out the date and time or put their comment in quote marks to avoid confusion.
    Kind regards,
    Raj of Hailsley.

It’s funny Raj. We just beat Leicester and Fulham with those tactics but now they aren’t right 🙂
What I will say is that any team that starts to dominate games will face these problems. We used to do it when roles were reversed. It takes special players to unlock that deep block. That’s why it’s getting harder to get those new players in. They have to make a difference in the PL. I still think about the ‘noise’ in how we failed massively in not getting Paqueta. Look how that’s going

There’s nowt the matter with our tactics. We keep teams out and we create chances.
It’s our inability to finish that is the issue.

Yes I took the picture not that long ago just before Christmas. You have to email admin where they put the picture up for your avatar as there is a glitch so you cannot change your avatar personally. When admin put it up it comes out very blurry which is probably a good thing re my previous avatar (ahem)…

Ended up watching the game upstairs in the Junction, everywhere was packed out yesterday.
Once again we created chances without converting them, i think it`s time to start Isak down the middle with St Max on the left.
Wilson looked a bit leggy again, only touched the ball a half a dozen times so maybe it`s time to switch things a tad.
Overall im happy with the way things are, one or two incomings in the obvious positions would be welcome though.

We are where we are because of Almiron’s purple patch. Wilson or Isak need a run of games and start scoring.
Wilson has the starting berth and he needs to produce or Isak will get his slot.
    Wilson was largely anonymous yesterday.

A few early balls are needed, sometimes.

JT & CF, agreed. I thought that Willock in particular, who played really well was guilty of trying that extra turn or beating that extra man before attempting the cross. There were a few times that if he’d just got his head up and crossed it, there was a body or 2 in the box without the overcrowding you get at dead ball situations.

As you say, release it quicker don’t over egg the approach play.

Haaland is a world beater when it comes to scoring goals, but up to this point Man City as a whole have scored the same number of goals as last season.

Think Wilson’s movement had been poor lately. When isak comes on he gets into great positions and provides better link up.

Also other than the occasional backfooted header we don’t really provide the strikers with great opportunities. This mainly comes from longstaff and willock having poor final balls. Miggys right foot is a culprit too but this is mitigated a bit by trips overlaps. Can’t remember other than trips one of these guys putting in a ball that isn’t either blocked by the first man or is too long. A MF to replace longstaff who has a better ball and can pop one from outside the box I think would really make things easier.

Arsenal will be loosing sleep now that City’s revival is underway
City have Haaland and a better goal difference.
Arsenal lack authority and will loose more points now as they have some challenging fixtures not least of all at SJP.
Let’s hope they draw with ManU today to keep things interesting.

Might be a little harsh but Wilson seems out of sorts at the moment. In the past when he’s not been scoring he’s been causing defences a lot of problems.

Kuol didn’t get on for Hearts, hope he gets some decent game time there. Shankland is the first Hearts player in 30 years to score 20 goals in a season

Chelsea – James, Chilwell & Fofana due back beginning of Feb, Felix a week later and possibly Sterling. They’ll click and go on a run for the rest of the campaign no doubt.

Liverpool – VVD & Jota due back 3rd week in Feb and Diaz beginning of March. They’ll also probably put a run together, but it might be too late for them. Unless they buy of course.

Wonder how much the board will look at this situation. Could be argued the opportunity is certainly there to invest smartly to try and finish top 4 this season. I get the feeling wor Eddie has done that well we’re 12 months ahead of the financial plan.

I want to see Manure played off the park KO in 10mins.

Hate to see Arsenal and especially the whinge bag Arteta. But I think Arsenal will blow manure away. Will be interesting as to how well manure fair compared to us when we got that great 0-0 at the emirates.

Should be a good game. But I’m going to have a demestos bath straight after that game and wash all my sins away.
