Another Magpie Could Be Headed Out On Loan This Week

Karl Darlow could soon join the ranks of Magpies out on loan with Hull Live reporting Hull City are closing in on a move for the 32-year-old shot-stopper. The report claims Hull boss, and former tiger, Liam Rosenior is keen on adding Darlow before their match against QPR next weekend.

The Tigers are short at goalkeeper with Chelsea loanee Nathan Baxter rehabbing an elbow injury. The 24-year-old had started 12 straight matches earlier in the season in a battle with Matt Ingram for the number one gloves. Baxter was injured in December and has returned to Stamford Bridge for his recovery.

Newcastle reached an agreement with Loris Karius last week to extend his contract until the end of the campaign. That decision coupled with Martin Dubravka’s recall from his loan spell at Old Trafford means Darlow is free to leave this month.

During his Friday press conference, Howe admitted one of his keepers was likely to leave before the end of the window saying:

“Loris has been excellent. Some really good training sessions among the keepers we have. We have a unique situation with the Carabao Cup because Martin is cup-tied. Probably some late movement there.”

Darlow is reportedly keen on getting more playing time. In each of the last two seasons, he got stints as the number one during Dubravka’s foot injuries. During the first half of the 2020-21 campaign, Darlow played out of his skin in keeping Newcastle away from the relegation places.

Newcastle currently have four senior players out on loan with Chris Wood making his debut for Nottingham Forest yesterday. Ciaran Clark (Sheffield), Isaac Hayden (Norwich), and Jeff Hendrick (Reading) are on loan in the Championship.

Fenham – you obviously missed the self-deprecating part of that post…it was obviously a piss take of myself.

If anyone is going to the game at Southampton and ends up with a spare ticket, please let me know. I’d love to go but don’t want to sit in the Southampton end for that one so not currently planning to go. Would need relatively short notice. A few people on here know how to contact me off the blog in case I don’t see your post.

    Long shot I know…

They will be a problem if we meet them in the final of the EPL cup. It will be some encounter that’s for sure

£50-60M for Antony Gordon will be a major mistake. All my Evertonian mates round here just dont rate him and would love that sort of money so as to be able to add quality to their Toffeemen . If he cant get a starting berth in a side bottom of the Premiership then noooooo!. Please don’t touch him with a barge pole. Nor indeed DCL his teammate who sadly is a worse sick note than Wilson.
I’m over the moon with how Eddie, Ashworth and the Owners have transformed our club in such a short period of time and can only agree with other posters who say – It has surprised the owners as to where it has got us so soon. Perhaps the plan was to spend little in this window but if they want success then it really does need some more investment before the January window closes. We need 3/4 more quality players to strengthen the depth of the squad. There is little impact from the bench. As well as the present 13 or 14, who are featuring week in week out, that are playing at the moment we have not really been tested by injuries and suspensions and fatigue will undoubtedly take its toll unless more quality is added. Get Franca bought for £20M and Fresneda for £10m both real prospects and then add real quality of the ilk of Maddison or Amrabat or even Diaby. It would be a big spend but in total perhaps just less than £100M net if we offload Shelvey to Besikas, Darlow to Hull and perhaps Fraser , Lascelles/Dummett off the payroll .Wood has already gone and repay Ritchie for his loyalty by allowing him to go back to the south coast on a free to finish his career .
That would leave us money to play with on the wage front bearing in mind we need back up for Isak and Wilson.
Am I being over optimistic? Perhaps? I think not when we are looking to beat Chelski, Spurs and Liverpool to the 4 th Champions League Spot. It would be money well spent.

I’m not watching Arse v Manure. Am only interested in one club NUFC! Our fate is now in our own hands and as Jimmy Floyd said its ours to lose.
Please PIF just invest a little more in TE FUTURE. But make sure its wisely as I don’t think any of the Premier League Clubs are going to do us any favours anytime soon. I think we have to focus our intentions on abroad .

Not sure if there’s that much money this window. Certainly not if we are to believe the comments from the club.

I 100% agree on the transfers you mention, but can’t see it this window.

Don’t think we’d get much for our fringe players either. Fraser maybe £7m, Shelvey the same? Darlow, Ritchie, Dummet, Manquilo etc would all end up free. Could maybe get £10m for Lascelles based on the fact he’s got loads of experience and is a great character.

Some people keep talking about the signings we “need” like we need to finish in the top 4 this season. I don’t believe that the plan would have included top 4 this season, it seems to me that we’re ahead of schedule!

Enjoy the ride guys, there’s a plan and we haven’t been let down at all since the new owners took over.

Agree with Harley, we may get a replacement in for Wood but I can’t see us spending that much this window – there’s a plan in place and a bit of a clear out and buying spree in the summer seems to be the way we’re going

With their contract both expiring soon we could probably get Neves and Thuram both for £60m. Just those 2 alone would completely transform us.

Could let Wood, Darlow, Ritchie, Fraser and Lewis go to free up wages.

I appreciate what you are saying Harley but there is talk of the PIF buying Formula One!! They’ll not get that for £100M . The rumour is Billions.
And if we dont qualify for Europe this season then those top class players we are being asked to wait till the summer for will be gone. Surely we havnt let Wood go without a Plan B to replace him.

Neves would be a great shout with his Premiership experience but again Wolves are a Premiership Club (at present) . Can they afford to let him go now or risk losing him on a free at the end of the season.
All this media talk does my head in . Declan Rice is mentioned as being on our radar today . Not a hope as WH wont entertain selling us their young full back Harrison Ashby who doesn’t get a look at present .

We’ll have to wait and see but unfortunately I don’t think they’ll spend it this window.

The Rich Six are still running the Premiership and making their own rules up as they go along. Chelsea are a law to themselves. There should be a limit to the number of players Club’s can loan out

    WLG,
For Gawds sake man it doesn’t concern us how much they’re spending on golf, Formula one or one of their cousins paying CR7 $1M pw, if anything it shows how much they would spend on us if they could. It’s not about their tight fistedness or being scared of paying too much, it’s about FFP, we can’t just spend what we want. When are people going to start getting this.

Question: which top players have moved in recent years with just 6 months left on their contract rather than renewing or going on a free transfer in the summer? I don’t think it’s many. It’s in their interest to wait until the summer and get more money as the buying club doesn’t have to pay anything to another club.

Shortly, Chelsea are going to have to make a decision, which of their 30+ players gets left out of squad as they can only name 25, same as the rest of us.

Tell you what Harley if they don’t strengthen Newcastle pay the price. I think you’re right but they shouldn’t call themselves businessmen if they don’t seize this wonderful opportunity to speculate to accumulate. It’s like having a winning hand and folding.
I’m not asking for us to be a Chelski or a Man City but just invest a shade more so we can compete on a much more level playing field.

What Chelsea are doing knocks me sick. I accept there’ll always be some teams bigger than others and I also think clubs are deserved of their status like Man Utd, Arsenal and Liverpool, who’ve won numerous trophies long before money became a thing.

But the way chelsea are going about things is just wrong on every level.

So if we don’t qualify for CL this year the whole 2030 project comes crashing down and we’ll never be the same again?? Give ower man, we could have easily been relegated last year and we would have just regrouped and started afresh, nobody at the club thought we’d be where we are now, they’ll bring in the right player when the one they want is available.

I don’t think it’s so much they aren’t businessmen, I just think they are hindered by ffp.

I’d imagine they’d absolutely love to splash the cash but just can’t.

Anyway I have no idea of the finances and they could well be plotting a spending spree.
