Alan Shearer has selected Nick Pope in his Premier League Team of the Week. The summer signing has been sensational for Newcastle and made a point-saving stop against Crystal Palace on Saturday.
Newcastle have struggled in front of the goal in recent weeks. It’s been a different story at the other end of the pitch. Pope and the stellar Newcastle defense kept their 15th clean sheet of the season in all competitions over the weekend.
Pope proved pivotal with his superb save on Jean-Philippe Mateta’s sudden blast at close range. Despite having little to do, he was ready when Newcastle needed him most to keep the unbeaten run in the league alive.
For his role in the draw, Pope has also captured our poll as the Man of the Match. He collected 34% of the vote with Kieran Trippier coming in second. The right-back was outstanding with 8 key passes and 16 crosses.

Comment #13I’m pretty sure the back 4 + goalie will be a lot different from Sheff Weds. Our normal defence is invincible! Just look at Arsenal’s home record this season against everyone else. Then look at our result there. Just one amongst a host of examples. He’s bound to pick the real deal tonight.

Would love to hear your reason on why you think Isak is overpaid but not Mudryk? Isak have a much more proven record than Mudryk and a 1 goal every 123.75mins this season.

Comment #16I have retired 3 times, first time at 46 (played golf all the time, hence my handicap). Possibly not hit the ball now. Got bored so I went back to something that interested me.
Once I can make my satellite lasers fast and accurate enough, I will take out the Pug. Then retire once more. But he is very fast, small and 22,000 Km away.

Sad to see that she has passed away.
Very sobering, more power to her husband for having the strength to fight for this cause.
