Newcastle Enter Talks With At Least Three Clubs – Report

Newcastle have entered talks for Everton attacker Anthony Gordon according to Craig Hope in The Mail. The Magpies are also engaged in discussions with at least two European clubs over unnamed targets.

The noise around Gordon has intensified in recent days. The dismissal of manager Frank Lampard seems to have spurred the Magpies into action. The 21-year-old is now seemingly the primary target this window.

Hope cites sources that state an offer of £25m plus £15m in add-ons could clinch an agreement with the cash-starved Toffees. That is significantly less than the £60m price tag Everton set in the summer.

Chelsea are also interested despite adding wide attackers Mykhaylo Mudryk and Noni Madueke in the past week. The Blues are in a transfer frenzy this month as UEFA are set to tighten FFP regulations in the summer.

Eddie Howe has expressed his desire for additions this month though admitted there are no guarantees. He is reportedly after a versatile forward, a midfielder, and a young right-back. The mystery targets in Europe could fulfill those needs.

The Shields Gazette is reporting that Newcastle have been knocked back in a bid for summer target Harrison Ashby. The right-back has just 6 months left on his contract with West Ham rejecting whatever offer Newcastle put forth.

As usual, I’m late to the party, so if this has been mentioned..’pologies.
Looking at those pictures of a proposed new stadium, it looks to me that it is on the site of the Arena hall. If that’s the case, I thought the future of that site was already planned, having been bought out by another party or parties.
I could be wrong on a few levels here so if I am, put me right.

Three transfer possibilities and a semi final in the same day..

A stark contrast to 12 months ago,and a dream compared to 18 months ago. 😀

If Chelsea want him they will blow us out the water
He is not good enough to get involved in a bidding war with Chelsea.
What’s all this stuff about Chelsea getting players in before FA tightens ffp rules in the summer? If it’s going to be harder in the summer get the players in now

I doubt very much Gordon would choose Chelsea over us, the lad will want plenty of game time and looking at Chelsea`s new additions i doubt he could guarantee that there.
We could offer Gordon bloody good wages so that won`t be a problem.
I think this deal has legs, and i hope we bring this lad in, he is tenacious, like shit off a stick, skillful and has attitude, which isn`t a bad thing imo.
Does anyone really give too monkeys about his dress sense or what type of car he drives, nah, thought not.

I think you are right about the Arena site, there are plans afoot for housing and a hotel, it`s a pity because the stadium plans looked damn good.
I would still rather stay put and enlarge the Cathedral on the Hill, it`s unique.

I`m still highly sceptical about this story linking us to signing Anothny Gordon for a couple of reasons, 1st if they sell him, they are more or less condceding to being relegated, secondly if they sell him they have barely any time left to get a decent replacement, i personally think this speculation is a red herring, we won`t have long to wait to find out though.

Everton would be mad not to accept that offer if it’s true. £25m up front will already help them massively, he’s currently not even playing for them and another £15m down the line will also help them with FFP and balance the books. That’s a more than fair offer and if they turn it down I can see us just walking away.

    I don’t know either

The other side of the argument is that the lad may be desperate for a move. He clearly hasn’t been in the best of form of late, and the video last week showing him being abused by fans who had strung up a road block might be the last straw; home town team or not.

    Whys Gordon worth 25-40m?

Absolutely nothing shows he’s worth this.

    3.5 seasons
    64 games
    7 goals
    2 assists.
    10 yellow cards.

    Mad prices. Average player

    Ridiculous move.

Nothing he has done shows he’s even a £30m+ player.

Are we really this desperate. Wow

He is getting dogs abuse off the fans and I think he wants a move. His form has dived so Everton will take the money soon to get a replacement.
Chelsea seem to be buying a new team in a month.

A lot of people were letting their dislike of Maddison cloud their judgement on his ability. If they’ve identified Gordon as that bit of extra steel and skill in AMF then I say trust their judgement. This is the way.

Everything Chelsea has done so far is the total opposite of smart. They’re taking enormous gambles on players on huge contracts and big wages. If they don’t make Champions League this season, they’ll have to have a huge clear out of players to offset their spending. If any of these signings turn into duds, they’re stuck with them for ages on large wages as nobody will buy them and pay that off. The change in rules also means if it does go tits up, they can’t use that exploit again to try and buy their way out of trouble.

As I referred to earlier, they’re essentially playing russian roulette as this could easily blow up in their face. It’s nowhere near being smart. It’s being completely reckless and crossing their fingers.

    Afternoon Mate,

In reference to Gordon i think he would be a magnificent signing, the lad has real quality and plays on the edge like a lot of good pros do, but will they want to sell him at this late stage in the window, i`m just not sure they will to be honest, but i would love to have him at the Toon for sure.

Chelsea are buying well and will be back near the top next season. First impression of Mudrych is that he looks a bargain at 88 million.
We should have bought Trossard for 27 . Ideal for us.
Everything is drawn out with us. Only Isak was done quickly. They handed over 73 million in a flash. Compare that to the agonies of Pedro deal where we were arguing the toss over a couple of million.

Not to mention if FFP does tighten up, any expensive flops Chelsea have will be even tougher to move on. As nobody will want to dent their FFP spending by buying an expensive Chelsea dud with 5 years still on their contract at 200k a week.

I think Chelsea are being different, hard to say if smart or not yet, especially without knowing the detail of the contracts.

If these younger players are on long deals but not huge wages, just modest for prem league, then it could be quite clever as it helps with a major rebuilding job that is needed there. Mudryk is allegedly on 90,000 a week, not extortionate by any means. They have a lot of the current squad contracts expiring over the next 18 months too, so that will be a lot of people off the books.

Ultimately there is a gamble, but 5/6 years deals have become common place, making them 7/8 years isn’t that much more of a stretch.

I certainly wouldn’t have complained if we’d got Mudryk on their terms.

I have done 6 years of boycotting and that’s enough for one life.
Cannot get a ticket now but I do not live in the area anymore. Always liked the away games more anyway
