Newcastle Remain Confident On Top Target Despite Valuation Differences – Report

Newcastle continue to push for Everton attacker Anthony Gordon as their top winter target. The deal will hinge on Everton lowering their lofty demands according to the latest report from Luke Edwards in The Telegraph.

Gordon is said to be desperate to make the move with personal terms not expected to be a problem. The 21-year-old missed training yesterday with the club stating it was a planned absence.

Chelsea apparently are now out of the running with Gordon preferring St. James’ Park over Stamford Bridge. The Blues willingness to part with £60m for the Liverpool-born attacker last summer is now delaying the process.

Newcastle will not pay that amount and have identified Chelsea’s Hakim Ziyech as plan B. The 29-year-old Moroccan would be a solid addition either on loan or as a permanent signing. Though Chelsea may have second thoughts about strengthening a rival for a top-four place.

Despite the distance in the valuation, Newcastle maintain confidence an agreement will be reached. It could take until the final few days of the window before any movement happens with Gordon.

We’ve a good chance to finish in top 4 this year. With the work done at ManU, Chelsea and Liverpool, they’ve all got a good chance of pushing for top 4 next year. Add Arsenal and ManC to that list and you’ve already got 5 viable options for 4 places.

We need to ensure that WE are good enough to compete again for top 4 next season and therefore under no circumstances should we deal with or help out financially or otherwise any of those other 5 x teams in the meantime.

Personally, no matter how good they are or how much any of them would improve us, I wouldn’t touch any player from any of those 5 as it would be detrimental to us in the long run to help them out in the short term.

Just my opinion of course, but if we manage top 4 this year I would imagine that is the benchmark for future years and I can’t see any sense in helping out our main rivals in any shape or form. 😀

Some people love the s–thousery and I don’t mind some of it but I just think Murphy was well out of order. No class at all. Even if Murphy was a top player, which he clearly isn’t, it doesn’t give him licence to do that. If he gets clattered on Tuesday he can’t have any complaints as it wasn’t even him who got pulled down. If others get clattered as a direct result then he’s clearly done his team mates no favours and done the team talk for Soto.

Fair enough sticking up for teammates but I just thought it made Murphy look a bit of a k–b when he should concentrate more on what he does on the pitch rather than goading the opposition.

Mental how many Everton experts there are on the blog. Most people have seen Gordon play twice a season Vs Newcastle so how can you possibly know how good or bad he is?

Last season Vs us, especially on the match on prime he was by far their best player and has been playing in a shite team his entire career to date.

I trust Howe knows a player better than any of us and if he thinks he’s worth buying then he must be good.

I don’t care about helping Chelsea or not helping Chelsea. Buying a player from them or taking a player on loan isn’t going to help them this season, just helps them to comply with FFP in the future.

More to the point is why would Chelsea help us when they are desperate to catch and overtake us?

Jail, I suppose if we were buying a player outright that the team had identified as someone that would improve us, that wouldn’t be so bad. I was mostly referring to loaning out their excess baggage, which I can’t see any point in doing even if it does improve us in the short term. 🙂

dazzler – always makes me laugh how football fans are convinced they’re experts in coaching, tactics, scouting etc and know more than the people paid big salaries. It’s fair enough when fans question things but really makes me laugh when they’re convinced they’re right and the experts are wrong. I WISH I was an expert in picking the right player for us to sign, I’d go right back up to Newcastle and get them to give me a job with the recruitment team!

TDS, in effect you’re agreeing with me in principle by saying they wouldn’t want to strengthen us, equally why would we want to help them?

I’ve warmed to Gordon.eddie and the boys will look after him and help him grow up.

He’s lightening quick – as fast as Miggy – and presses hard and has skill.

We need to think squad rather than first team , a bit like rugby. The guys on the bench are vital but Gordon could play regularly on the left.

I just hope we don’t lose Maxi in return.

Gordon a pain in the arse to us when we play them
Why not sign him decent player – would a pain the arse to opposition
Also another player who is willing to do the dirty work – some one mention today that he is the Everton stats he player is the player that does the most yards when on the pitch
    Eddie will sort him

I still hope we are after a midfielder it looks to me like we need one more than anything

Bruno, Willock and Longstaff all look a bit jaded from playing every week

The only guy who doesn’t seem to look tired is Joelinton the engine on that guy what a machine!!

I suppose if ASM can step up again to start on the left it means we could have Willock drop out to become part of rotation

Would feel a lot more comfortable if a midfielder is coming in though!

Lee, agree, the boys are looking a bit jaded.i just hope Eddie gives them plenty of recovery time this week. A proper cdm would be great but ffp might mean that it’s Gordon only, for now.

Thought Miggy had another good game yesterday. If the chances he’s created had been put away his stats would be so much better.

Chelsea helping us out with a loan in the short term would be a big surprise, considering it’s them that’s ten points behind us and desperately trying to close the gap on us,

Charlie, one good game , at the Miggy level, would endear Gordon to the fans. Mind you, MOM awards would mean we have to listen to his scouse accent, and I’m not sure that’s worth it.

He’d allow us security on the left aswell as a high press

I wouldn’t loan from the 6 for the simple reason that they might do a man Utd on us and string us along before pulling the plug at the last minute.

cleveleysbob -I’m saying that we wouldn’t really be helping them this season. We’d be hurting them more by increasing our chances of getting top 4. Slightly alleviating Chelsea’s financial worries is a minuscule issue compared to the acceleration we’d get if we finish in the top 4.

There are also loads of other clubs who would take their players, why would we want them to go elsewhere if we can get them?

I still don’t think Chelsea will want to strengthen us but I don’t think it’s a valid argument to say our club wouldn’t want to take their players.

Do you think there’s something called a loan with the option to buy “if you stop dressing like a skanky scouse b*tch and get yer femullet sorted.”
If not, I think the FA should approve such a clause.

    @Munster

I was thinking that but Gordon can also play as a no10/attacking midfielder as he is pretty adept at using both feet also

Seen him do it for Everton a few times and looked decent to be fair

Its not beyond the realms of possibility that we solve the midfield issue by just having a utility guy like him to get us through

He does have a high ceiling you know he kind of reminds me of Sterling a little when he was at Liverpool just a tier below in quality but similar skillset

I’m beginning to really lime the thought of Gordon coming here, ‘If’ we are really after him. If the management team think he is good enough for the way we play then I’d look forward to him coming here. I couldn’t care less how he dresses or how his hair is cut as long as he gives his best on the pitch.

TDS, short sighted, short termism, get what you can now and don’t worry about the future.

Personally, I want us to get into top 4 level and stay there indefinitely. Screwing Chelsea, so that they fall foul of ffp or simply have to not spend for a season 2 is massive, as are Embargo’s on buying and selling, like they had a few seasons back, they can be seriously hurt in the long run so long as teams don’t help them out in the short term. Unfortunately as you say, many will. Teams below 12th in league will be crying out to take players off them on loan because their short term aim is “avoid relegation” – we know, been there often enough.

Sad, but they’ll get away with it. What surprises me is how many players go there, given that they’ll either sit on a bench most of the season or get loaned out to a lower team. Thought the’d have more ambition than that. 🙂

Missed the game as was too late for me with early graft here. Caught up on the blog and had a laugh at the match thread comments. Bit of a rollercoaster and wor Jane seemed a tad irked! I can understand her mood as the negative comments towards certain players during the game aren’t really necessary, but I think they’re more emotive off the cuff remarks than anything.

Thought Wilson would start after Eddie saying goals were just around the corner for him. He’ll continue starting him no doubt and Isak will get half an hour next week. Maybe Maxi as well. I think if they come on next week and we go to town on Soton then wor Eddie is at a crossroads and needs to make a decision.

But then again, Gordon might be playing 😆

Afternoon all, feeling nicely topped up with my daily dose of blog. I don’t see any reason for negativity, we won away, kept a clean sheet and created many chances. On another day big Joe would have had a hat-trick and Miggy two assists. It’s advantage us and a whole week to prepare for the second leg. Maxi looked very good while Isak just oozed class. I would love to see them, Miggy and Wilson on at the same time in a 4 2 3 1. Keep Bruno and big Joe in midfield and the back 4 the same. Solid defence and an attack that strikes fear in the opposition. Hmm better stop now, I’m drooling. 😆
