Influential Magpie Signs Extension To 2025

Newcastle have announced that Kieran Trippier has signed a one-year extension to the end of the 2024/25 campaign. The 32-year-old was in the final 18 months of the deal he signed when joining from Atletico Madrid last January.

Here is the official statement from Newcastle United:

Newcastle United are delighted to announce Kieran Trippier has signed a contract extension, keeping the defender at the club until the summer of 2025.

The 32-year-old right-back, who joined the Magpies from Atlético Madrid in January 2021, has been in impressive form for Eddie Howe’s side this season after helping United record an English top-flight record of 15 games unbeaten.

The Bury-born full-back has helped the Magpies record 16 clean sheets across all competitions during the 2022/23 campaign, including 12 in the Premier League, and has also registered six assists so far this term as well as scoring a memorable free-kick during a 3-3 draw against Manchester City at St. James’ Park in August.

The 40-time England international, part of the Three Lions’ 2022 World Cup squad in Qatar, was the first signing since the takeover of the club in October 2021 by an investment group comprising of PIF, PCP Capital Partners and RB Sports & Media.

Trippier stated the following about his extension:

“I’m absolutely delighted that I’ve extended my contract here. I’ve got a lot of thank yous to make to the manager, owners, fans and my teammates.

“When I first arrived here, they made me feel so welcome and I want to help the club achieve great things. It’s a positive moment for us players in the club and there’s nowhere I’d rather be.”

Newcastle United head coach, Eddie Howe, is obviously thrilled to get Kieran tied down for an additional year saying:

“It’s a fitting reward for the season he’s had. He’s been outstanding both on and off the pitch, showing real leadership at a difficult moment when he first arrived, and now he’s excelled in a team that’s doing well.

“I can’t praise him enough for everything he’s given the club.”

An interview with Trippier can be seen below.

Sure I read Ancelotti saying he thought Gordon had the skillset to also play as a 10. Wor Eddie likes the versatility in his players.

Training pics too. They look relaxed, happy, and sharp. Well as sharp as you can look while being in a still picture. 🙂

Over the moon about this one, he has made such a major difference since signing last year. Like everyone’s views on this or at least those old enough to remember and by the way Rob Lee did start as a right winger for us, then moved into middle as time went on. Was talking to Gavin after a game, not sure which one, maybe Chelsea, anyway discussing potential man of the match, both of us decided on Trippier. Anyway, Gavin described his signing to that of Venison, saying when he came in, totally sorted the defence out and made such a major difference to the team back then, he said exactly what Trips has done now. Anyone feel the same way and the likeness to Venison signing?

Tripps could be on of the clubs best ever signings.

His new contract might make Maddison realise what’s possible.
    Let’s hope so.

    WLtoon,

I noticed that about the Maddison odds. I think it’s dropped from about 9-1 or 8-1 but quite a drop. Mind you I know nowt about odds 🙂

I agree with the comparison Simon. I just think that Tripps, with his La Liga win and the England semi-final / final experiences is just a step above.

Fantastic news on Tripps, I really want him to finish his playing career with us and then move over to management or coaching with our club.

He could be a leader at our club for the next 10-20 years.

Glad to see trips extend he can do a job for a few years yet as pace isn’t his game …..on Gordon £40 mill seems steep ….but we wanted 50 for longstaff so that’s the market ….most interesting thing today was Bruno’s tweet …..surely not referring to trips or Gordon, maybe his own contract or maybe we’ve done a deal for one of his kickers and it hasn’t hit the press yet?!

    Simon,

I enjoy your stories. I don’t think I ever really spoken with you before.

I loved Barry Venison, mind I was only 13ish at the time he played for the toon, but I was bang into my football at the time.

He was a great signing as far as I knew, but to be fair (only what I can remember) he is/was never the player Trippier is.

Great signing Gorgeous (ahem) Gordon is. He is the exact type of player we should be going signing. This young lad has that something about him that Eddie and his team clearly know what they can get out of him.

IMO Gordon has the potential to be an absolute legend for wor club. He battles, he is tenacious and moves the ball and moves at an electric pace. With Miggy on the right with the same energy and movement. 2 x inverted wingers that can cut in on their favoured foot with deadly accuracy from both sides. This team can break at sheer pace now. With Isak in the middle with the same pace this has to be the most electric of forward 3’s in the EPL:

    Gorgeous___________Isak__________Miggy

    With our MF of:

    ______Joelinton_______________Bruno____

    ________________Longstaff______________

Job done as we know the defence looks after itself.

Now the million dollar question, where does Madders fit in to the above. As he will surely be on his way sooner rather than later. With the summer window we will have a depth to the squad we’ve potentially never seen before that can take on Europe in the CL.

I’m absolutely buzzing with the signing of Gordon as mentioned he will be unbelievable for us to give us a great balance . Ten defenders of the opposition will be fooked at the end of every game with the in your face harrying from the front which we are going to up a notch.

    Happy days 🙂

I wonder what Bruno’s stats are for providing the pass that leads to a chance creating pass / assist. I bet he is in top decile in the PL.

Anytime, thing with Gavin is, not only was a great player, but even though I’m biased, such a lovely bloke as well. Sure said this before, but when he first signed for us, him and his wife Amanda went down my Nanas house, quite a few there. She was 78 at the time, only lived another 2 years and already had start of dementia at that point along with few other things. Anyway they left, gave my Mam and her cousin Audrey a kiss goodbye and drove off. Got almost back to hotel and cant remember if in Newcastle or Durham at that point and realised hadnt given my Nana a goodbye kiss. He drove all the way back to do that even though really she wouldnt have had a clue. Just the type of loving bloke he is.

Anyway back to Venners. Never forget as we signed him, just a few weeks before the Liverpool fans chanting One Barry Vinnison whne wanted him brought on as a sub and got their way. I was just so excited, I was about or 17 at that point, but knew he was about to make such a major difference for us and oh how he did

I did advise earlier that we would have to pay most of the fee up front if we wanted to get a good price. But I think Everton got a good deal for a guy who did very little in the last year.

That said, they know his potential ( 60m from Chelsea turned down, must be regretting that now) and we are going to benefit from this fella.

Tuff, have you put your hand up yet and admitted you were talking sh1te when you said the Gordon story was nonsense, in your typical “know it all, know sod all” way ?

    🙂

Everton are expected to give a portion of the Gordon fee to new manager Sean Dyche once he is officially confirmed as Frank Lampard’s successor.

‘Here ye are Sean, £5 in loose change. Get yerslef a burger and then get them training, running around the pitch, wheelie bins are full of ice if needed’

    Memories are made of this.

Why the absence? Well, you might remember some threats potentially leading to a fight and the fact that the person (who has form in the thuggish behaviour front) seems to be allowed to continue posting!

Watched our game with Soton a few times. Impressed by Izaks sudden turn of speed leaving Caleta-Car for dead before he crossed for Big Joe to score.
Expect more of that in the coming weeks – Izac will trick a few more opposition players.
