Negotiations with Everton over the transfer of Anthony Gordon are at an advanced stage according to Sky Sports’ Keith Downie. The two clubs are close to reaching an agreement on a structured deal that could end up reaching £45m.
This is what Downie posted on his Twitter account:
Newcastle United are close to agreeing a fee with Everton for Anthony Gordon. Talks over a structured deal totalling £45m are at an advanced stage. There is growing belief a deal can be done over the weekend.
After missing the previous three days of training, Gordon was shown arriving at Everton’s training facilities this morning. Everton are also expected to announce Sean Dyche as their new manager soon.
It appears Everton have lessened their demands with Gordon keen on joining Newcastle this month. As Downie states, Newcastle are confident an agreement can be reached this weekend with the window slamming shut on Tuesday.
Newcastle will want to get their business wrapped up before deadline day with the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final taking place that night. Newcastle hold a slim 1-0 advantage after the first leg at Southampton earlier this week.

Comment #3I trust in the due diligence of Eddie Howe and the transfer team at Newcastle, I’m convinced they will rebuild Gordon like they did with Miggy and Big Joe.

Comment #13Can’t see Gordon being the only business we do this window. I agree with Ledge that another midfielder and a backup RB and this will be a stellar window.

Comment #22Does anyone feel that if Newcastle does get Gordon in before Monday that Maxi would be able to leave to another club on Feb 1st. Like, keep him for the semi and after the semi final he can say his goodbyes to the fans if he really wants to go and sign an agreement before midnight with whoever.
But of course this only works if we have another player coming in to cover the Wood exit.

Comment #24We seem to stick with targets we’ve identified if they don’t move elsewhere. Gordon was a target in the summer, so wonder if we’ll go for another target in the summer and see Ashby from West Ham join before the window shuts.

We need a young quality RB to deputise for Trippier as we’ll have more minutes next season due to European football. We also need more of a ready-made LB who is more an attacking threat as BDB isn’t a natural LB and is getting up there at 30+
Both could technically wait until the summer but we’re a bit short at RB if Trips got injured so rectifying that now would be ideal.

Comment #31I have just had some news from my contact in Terry’s barber shop on Stamfordham Rd.
Apparently the delay is because they are trying to agree who funds Gordon’s hair dye.
The club think that it is Gordon’s responsibility, while he wants the club to fund his hair style.
It is believed the club are willing to meet him halfway.

If we drop out of the European places by the end of the season and get beat off Manure in the cup final, but Manure secure a top 4 finish….do we get a spot in Europe for being finalists?

Right Back for me. Trips can always play LB if Burn and Targett were goosed at sametime

Agree there we need RB cover. Although happy for that to be the summer’s business as Tripps is 32 so we’ll need somebody to take his role on within 2/3 years really.
The Fresnada link was exciting for that reason but happy to take any RB deemed to be the right fit for us over time.

Comment #37Get Maddison and a right back. No guarantees but that’s as good as top 4.
Gordon is a massive upgrade on Murphy. He is an upgrade on max. Max is unplayable on his day but Gordon is more consistent. A player with grit who won’t be fookkked around. Just up Eddie street.
Sell Max and big bid for Maddison but do not let max go until the deal is fine. Ashby as well.
Excellent business if it happens.

Young Gordon would be a tremendous signing, he is very competitive and fast, plays right on the edge, and very flexible and versatile, he is most definitely an Eddie Howe type of player, and will add great strength and quality to the squad,
