Some clarity is arriving on Newcastle’s agreement with Everton on the transfer of Anthony Gordon. Earlier reports pegged the fee at £40m rising to £45m with add-ons. However, The Athletic’s David Ornstein is reporting Newcastle will pay £40m in total with the payment paid in full upfront.
This has now been backed by local journalists like The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards, who originally suspected the transfer would be structured as much of Newcastle’s business has been under the new owners.
There is also a report that a sell-on clause has been included should Newcastle sell Gordon for mega-bucks in the future. The 21-year-old has immense promise with Eddie Howe identifying him as his top target this month.
It appears Gordon could be the only incoming of the window with a midfielder and a young right-back being pushed to the summer. Newcastle still have a lingering interest in West Ham’s Harrison Ashby but have not been able to agree on a fee. He could arrive as a free agent in the summer.
Newcastle not pursuing midfield cover could indicate Jonjo Shelvey is nearing a return to training. The 30-year-old is currently nursing a calf injury but is in line to return next month. Elliot Anderson is expected to remain behind to provide cover on the flanks and in the midfield.

Comment #4They desperately need a centre forward, and you’d expect will go out now and buy one. CDL’s injuries and the sale of Richarlison has been a big part of their demise.

Comment #10I don’t believe we have paid the whole Gordon fee up front..
a) Why would we bu55er up our own FFP,just to help out another Prem rival..
b) Everton could just ring their bank and get the whole lot off them.
Burnley did it with the Wood transfer..
c) Finally, how the foot does anyone know?
