Newcastle Add Rising Italian Star To Left-Back Shortlist – Report

Newcastle appear determined to find an upgrade at left-back over the summer. Recent reports have Arsenal’s Kieran Tierney topping the shortlist. The 25-year-old has fallen down the pecking order this season and could be open to leaving the Emirates.

Tierney will not be the only attacking left-back Newcastle consider. Sport Witness is citing a claim from Italy that Inter Milan’s Federico Dimarco is attracting attention from the Magpies.

Dimarco would upgrade Newcastle’s productivity from the left flank considerably. The Italian international has a lethal left foot and has been sensational since becoming Inter’s primary left-back two years ago.

The 25-year-old has had 16 goal contributions since the start of the 2021-22 campaign. He had previously had five spells out on loan including a very productive 18-month stint with Serie A’s Hellas Verona.

The Inter Academy product has played at all international levels for Italy. He made his full debut last summer and has since amassed 8 caps. He started both of Italy’s most recent friendlies in November.

The rising star would not come cheap as Inter have him tied down until 2026. The report suggests it would take over £35m to pry him from the black and blue side of the San Siro.

If this report is accurate, Newcastle are setting their sights high for a left-back addition over the summer. Tierney, when fit, is an outstanding fullback. Dimarco could be just as impressive but minus the troubling injury history.

The old Ajax style Total football is what we need!

    With the forwards constantly switching.

    Morning/afternoon.

Not keen on tierney, hes a crock, always injured. If we are sticking to FFP then we dont want players on high wages who barely get a game for injuries. Hes 25 so only getting older therefor all these ligament/cruciate injuries are just going to get worse. Arsenal have gone up about 4 levels since hes been dropped. He belongs in a mid table club or abroad to help avoid injury as the cold weather here wont do him any favours.
My first choice for a left back but will cost a pretty penny and wil put us up there in terms of recruitment with the best is alphonso davies, one of they, if not they, best Left back about at the minute and hes rapid to.. him on the left with someone like hakimi on the right to replace trippier and you have service and speed from wingbacks like no other team

The Lasses will be playing at St James Park on Sunday the 16th June and are in with a great chance of winning their league.

    Another massive gate perhaps?

Hoping Southampton get relegated so we have a better chance of nabbing Kyle Walker Peters. Cracking little player with the added bonus that he can play LB or RB

When you ist every single LB listed on football manager scout section, one will come up. There was a fad on here years ago where people would just filter all the players U23, nearly out of contract with impressive stats and post them on here like they had a huge knowledge of continental players. It fizzled out for some reason, only the departed Kets kept it going to an extent.

I reckon Tierney wants to move and his agent is doing his job by splashing his name about.
I’ll be shocked, not in a good way, if he ends up here.

I went for a win v wolves on sunday.

I think big joe being out might be beneficial, before you all tear into me, he played terrible last match. He was at fault for thier first goal, granted foden ripped dan burn a new one before ghosting everyone else in the way but prior to that joelinton was stood still hands on hips watching, he should have closed the 3 yard gap and helped burn out before foden entered the box. Im not saying big joes bad, i just believe he looks shattered as do a few of the squad.
Eddie should mix it up a bit and go 442 at the weekend.
I normally dred lacelles name in the line up but he played well the other day, cant fault him and i think he deserves to keep his place, if anything for set pieces alone, we actually looked like we could get a goal from a corner when he was diving in for the header.
For me botman, burn, joelinton, almiron all need a rest.. rotate,

    442 as follows

    Wilson – isak
    – anderson –
    Willock – – longstaff
    – bruno-
    Targett – lacelles- schar-trippier

Then bring on murphy gordon st maxi, and almiron against tired legs on the hour. The 4 of them can run at defenders no end and interchange, swap to a 3 5 1 and let them run wolves ragged would sub on burn at the same time bringing off trips, targett, wilson and anderson and one of longstaff or willock

I totally concur with all your sentiments there mate, all the damage Ashley inflicted on the club over a long period of time was never ever going to be a quick fix, in saying that the new owners have already fixed a lot of that damage in a relatively short space of time mate HWTL

    Rob,
To be fair, Lascelles had an excellent game against Lpool, if there’s nothing at stake I hope he starts against Leicester in May, I’ve a feeling it’s going to be his last home game, at least gets some minutes.

Rico Henry is another quality left back been great for Brentford surprised he’s not had a call up for England as he’s been excellent

Just listening to talksport from yesterday and Goldstein had pointed out that potentially us, Brighton, Brentford and Fulham could all qualifyn for Europe I mean how mental would that be if it all came true?

    LCBP,
Not sure how that works out as there’s only three places available two UEL and one UECL, runners up don’t get them anymore and if Man U win the EL and top four that place isn’t transferred, I think the most English clubs can be seven.

Raj – everyone had lacelles pipped as being away last winter but nothing materialised. I tbink we might just keep hold of him for another seasom or two. After all clarks gone in the summer, schar is 32 this year, burn 31 so if anything i think a young botman type to come into the line up, burn schar and lacelles as squad players. Probably schar or burn away before lacelles.

Hey Clint, it’s been a very snowy winter so far. We’ve already had over 300 cms of snow and March isn’t over. It’s been relatively mild all things considered. So more snow instead of -20 to -30 days.
Can’t wait until May is here, then winter is really over!

Lee chunga, imagine, at the expense of man utd, tottenham and chelsea.. liVARpool would have to go on a downward trajectory to but it would be quality to see 4 of the so called big 6 miss out on european football next season because they were beat to the post by us “lesser” teams

    Rob,
The trouble is that he’s in the last year of his deal, he could probably/definitely get a four year deal at a Bmouth/Palace type club, so we have a decision(s) to make, keep him another year and let him go for free, sell him or offer him a three year deal, I can’t see how the latter is good for anyone.
