Newcastle Tracking Sensational Hungarian As Playmaker Option

Newcastle are one of a number of clubs tracking RB Leipzig playmaker Dominik Szoboszlai according to journalist Ben Jacobs. In an exclusive in Caught Offside, Jacobs names Newcastle along with Chelsea and Atletico Madrid as potential suitors.

His report primarily names Chelsea as having the most interest. Though he states Newcastle have the 22-year-old on their extensive list of midfield options this summer. Newcastle are expected to add a playmaker in the summer with James Maddison likely a top target.

Szoboszlai would be an amazing addition despite not having the almost guaranteed return of Maddison with his extensive Premier League experience. Though Szoboszlai has a wealth of experience in Germany and Austria with over 200 senior appearances.

The versatile Hungarian can play through the middle or out wide. He would rival Kieran Trippier with his set-piece prowess as he’s also scored some wonder goals throughout his short career for both club and country.

This one does seem like a longshot as Leipzig will not want to part with their young playmaker, who joined from RB Salzburg in January 2021. Szoboszlai is tied down until 2026 and reportedly has a sizeable release clause.

One thing Jacobs mentions is Szoboszlai remains close to Erling Halaand from his Salzburg days and talks frequently about England. The player presumably is keen on testing himself in the Premier League at some point in the future.

Madders might not be as nailed a target as we think with Ashworth having another year to persuade some of his previous targets.

Has Ashworth got his own network of scouts or are they still at Brighton.

No but Nickson and his team are still with us Bruno and Botman were Nickson buys he wanted Bruno before he went to Lyon

Between him and Ashworth I think we will sign a lot of good quality young ones

As you say it wouldn’t surprise me if we haven’t moved on from Maddison due to price injuries and other teams interest in him

Pity about Lewis as he looked a good prospect with Norwich.

Still getting picked for The Irish team though!

Evening Bill, i wouldn`t give to much credence to Lewis still getting picked for N Ireland mate, one of your wet Kippers would get picked for them, their team mostly comprises of lower league players Bill.

Scott Parker sacked at Beugge after just 12 games.

He may need sometime as a no2 coach to get back in track

Ooh Szoboszlai. He would be a great signing. Would be nice if this one is more than just the usual rumours.

I would actually prefer him to Maddison. Admittedly Maddison has PL experience and Szoboszlai does not but I think he is a great player with a big future ahead of him.

Hi Loch mate, i`m not surprised Scott Parker got sacked i watched his team get absolutely destroyed last night by Benfica on RTE Two and his interview after the match was to say the least very uninspiring and devoid of any ideas or positivity, i have no doubt that interview sealed his fate mate.

I mentioned at work today the thought of Mount coming to the toon in a Joe-Bruno-Mount midfield and it’s starting to grow on me- Longstaff doesn’t deserve to be dropped yet and depending on how fast we want to progress will determine how ruthless we are with our x11

Eddie and Mount seem to be a combo that work in my head for the team, his work rate second to none and would definitely put the hard miles in for us

Taco i`ve said on here a few times that i don`t think we will be favourites to obtain the signature of Maddison if Leicester decide to sell him, i hope i`m wrong as he is a class player, but i can see him going to possibly Liverpool Arsenal Man Utd or Spurs, just my humble opinion HWTL.

    TNA
I was listening to Talk Sport in the car earlier and they were saying that we’d joined the race to sign Mount, I’m not sure if all those guys on that show are informed or not or whether they just pick up the same media BS as we do, he would be an excellent addition if true, not sure about his wage demands though.

Magic, I have always been on the fence regarding Maddison. He is a good player yes but will be very expensive because as you say others will be in for him I suspect.

For some reason that I can’t really explain I have never been fussed if we sign him or not.

As I said if I had a straight choice between Szoboszlai and Maddison I would pick Szoboszlai. I would sign him in a heartbeat.

I hadn’t realised he was such a big lad, he can play DM and AM, got a cracking shot on him and a great passer of the ball, 23 years old, Chelsea simply have to offload players this summer and his wages would be sensible. I think he could be got for around £35M and £100K pw.

Lewis would be a decent enough left wing back with a good left sided centre back behind him, one division down. Defensively he is woeful. No spatial awareness, no sense of danger. Awful.

Gallagher or Mount would be great for us either of them were playing hs with the chances we have created they score a hell of a lot more than our midfield

Would be the difference between where we are and really chasing down Arsenal is goals from midfield

Chelsea will be a selling lots of players in the summer they have have balance the books

To be fair I don’t think any of Maddison, Mount, Gallagher would be bad signings. The thing is though they are all somewhat obvious.

We will be linked to everyone. It has been less than two years since the takeover and I am pretty sure it would be quicker to list players (from any major league) we have not been linked than it would to list those we have been linked with.

Pretty sure that somewhere out there is a Toon fan that thinks we missed out on a minimum of 900 players that would improve our squad.

    LCBP,
I’d prefer Gallagher because of his versatility, imo we’re crying out for another box to box snd he could really fit the bill, I don’t think he’d come with the same ego as Mount as well.

    Munster,

Seems we all see the same things with Lewis. That is what worries me most about him. It is much harder to teach or learn basic on the pitch intelligence at his age.

What is worse is that it is not as if he makes up for his obvious limitations with skill, workrate or any attribute I can think of…and I actually started trying to think of one. The best I came up with was “pace” but he isn’t especially quick either.

If Chelsea sell Mount, I think it will be for big money. £70m or so. Young, English international, a good record, can play in multiple positions. I think he’s a very good player.

    Oh Raj,

One thing I forgot to say about Montparnasse. Whatever you do… do NOT buy a drink in the Montparnasse Tower.

I cant say if it is worth going to the top just for the views as last time I was there I had a room that was high up enough to have an excellent view of lots of Paris. It perhaps might be worth going to the top for a more panoramic view. But I repeat do NOT buy drinks anywhere in that building. Trust me on that.

TDS, Chelsea will (at least at first) put a huge price tag on any players they intend to sell especially English ones. They may well also pretend that they are not for sale.

Fact is though that they will seriously need to get some players off their books ASAP.

I would assume people at NUFC are monitoring the situation at Chelsea to see if there is a deal to be had.

Aussie boss Graham Arnold has been talking about his situation:

“Garang Kuol, at this moment in time I think it is good for him to come back and be in (Australia) camp, be around the boys, and we pick up his energy a little bit. He has had a bit of a tough start at Hearts.

The Scottish game, the way it is played, is completely different to Australia. So it is going to take a little bit of time for him to settle in with that and obviously learn that. I know the expectations of the kid are always very, very high, and going to Hearts I can imagine that was exactly the same. So it is a learning process for Garang and making sure that he can deal with it, we can be here to help him deal with it. For him to come back to us and again to be part of the Socceroos squad that did well at the World Cup, and give him one of the first chances, is important for him as well.”

That is the thing with Kuol. Hearts is technically a big step up for him in terms of football compared to Australia (where he didn’t start games). That is is not to mention all the other obvious stuff that comes with moving from Australia to Scotland at such a young age.

The simple fact is he cost 300K. He showed promise at a young age. Will he make it? To be honest I have no idea. But sign 20 300K young players like him and chances are at least one will make it and that will make the other 19 worthwhile.

I won’t write him off because it is pointless to do so. I hope he makes it, but he is at the beginning of his career. Some people here of course have already written him off.

The SPL was a massive step up over Australian league so many Scottish born players who couldn’t cut it over there

Even the national team has about 4 or 5 scottish born players who switched nationality

It’s also worth bearing in mind Kuol was a cheap punt he might never see a Newcastle first team game or he may develop in years to come

If ManU aren’t there then maybe City as Haaland may be offski.
Or maybe SJP beckons with Maxi and Miggy around him he’d be like a pig in shit for getting goals .
