Eddie Howe is confident Newcastle can put their struggles behind them against Wolves on Sunday. The head coach revealed during his press conference that he is satisfied with this week’s work ahead of the critical fixture saying:
“It’s been a good week in terms of delivery and intensity.
“We’ve been unlucky. I don’t believe in luck, because you create it yourself, but we’ve had an unlucky period when things have gone against us.
“Lots of things are tested behind the scenes on these runs. What is the culture of your group like? What is the culture around the training ground like? It’s a good test of that. So far, the players have come up with the right answers.”
Newcastle’s excellent first half of the campaign, in which they lost just once, has kept them in the Champions League discussion. They are currently sixth with some matches in hand on the clubs immediately above them.
A couple of wins before the international break could put Newcastle into stronger contention ahead of the final 12 fixtures of this match. Howe admitted that the turn around in results needs to happen quickly as he stated:
“Two big games (against Wolves and Nottingham Forest) because of where they are situated.
“We have the international break afterwards and we want to go into that break really in a good moment.
“We’re also running out of games. They are going to go so quickly, 14 left. We need points and we are determined to end this run of games we have had in a confident way.
“And we need to try and maximize every single one of those games and it’s still in our hands.”
Howe has also confirmed that the club plans to head back to Dubai for a warm-weather training camp during the break. These excursions have helped in the past and could again spur a late-season revival.
Howe said the following about the planned trip:
“That’s the plan. We’ll have quite a few players away so I think we’ll have quite a small group, but that is the plan as we currently stand.”
Howe’s full press conference can be watched in the YouTube video below.

Comment #2So, Eddie Howe reckons he’s ‘confident Newcastle can put their struggles behind them against Wolves on Sunday’?
Let’s hope those words don’t come back to bite him.

Comment #3Jail i agree about the barn door, but other teams didn’t see it like that. they watched him like a hawk and in doing so gave others more time and space to build on, Miggy for one used it well and felt the benefit of it,

Comment #4TS – yes, I can see us overhauling Spurs before long. If you’re a player or sponsor, who has the biggest potential now? I’d say it’s clearly us. Main attraction Spurs have us being in London.

Comment #6Seems the 6 definitely are rattled.
“Henry, initially a supporter of the collapsed European Super League, this week spoke about imposing curbs on top of the existing Financial Fair Play and profit and sustainability regulations under which Premier League clubs must operate to preserve competition in English football”

Comment #7“Gary Lineker to step back from presenting MOTD”
free speach doesn’t mean you can say anything. that’s why there is a comments policy on the blog. comparing the UK to 1930s Germany was only going to end one way.

Comment #8So, the supposedly impartial BBC’s stood Linaker down from MOTD ‘cos it wants to be seen as political impartial. Oh, that must be the same impartial Been that’s decided not to show one of the episodes of David Attenborough’s new ‘Wild Isles’ series on live TV, but will show it on the iPlayer only.

Comment #9@ 8 continued (it posted when incomplete.
And why have the Beeb decided not to shoe that particular episode of what is a nature series made by David Attenborough, one of the world’s most respected naturalists?
Because it covers environmental destruction in Britain and the Beeb’s mindful of the likelihood of kickback from right-leaning bodies such as the members of the nasty (govering) party, farmer’s groups and the shooting lobby.
But the Beeb remains impartial? Yer, OK.

Comment #10There’s a lot of different combinations we could try for the front three
I’d like to see
Isak, Wilson, Saint-Maximin
but i’m warming to
Gordon, Isak, Murphy
then there’s
Joelinton, Isak, Almiron
and even
Anderson, Isak, Willock could work
and also the old trusted (but not working this season)
Saint-Maximin, Wilson, Almiron

Comment #20Why can’t Isak play 2/3 or 3/4 of the game?
Surely he needs to start to build up the game stamina, feel the burn and all that.
Get him in!

Comment #21So Gary Lineker was fine to highlight Qatar’s human rights issues but it’s a problem when he highlights our government’s treatment of refugees? How about our government put in some actual refugee/asylum seeker schemes for people to apply from their country or another country and THEN they can justify stopping the people traffickers. Then it will mostly be wannabe illegal immigrants taking the small boats option rather than some people fleeing genuine persecution.
It’s not unreasonable to call out far right wing behaviour.
