Newcastle are in the market for a new left-back this summer. The club have set the bar high with interest in Arsenal’s Kieran Tierney and Inter Milan’s Federico Dimarco, two marauding left-backs who can add some more excitement to the left flank.
Either would cost significant funds as they are both on contracts that run until 2026. Newcastle may have a backup plan with 90min reporting of an interest in Bournemouth’s Jordan Zemura, who is out of contract this summer.
Zemura seems destined to leave Bournemouth as negotiations on a new deal have been anything but smooth. The Cherries triggered a yearlong extension last season to keep him around for their return to the Premier League.
The 23-year-old has impressed in his first season in the Premier League. While he doesn’t have the attacking prowess of Tierney or Dimarco, he has held his own and will only improve as he gains experience.
Bournemouth boss Gary O’Neil dropped the left-back for their 1-0 win over Liverpool last weekend. It appears that his contract situation facilitated the decision. He still has 22 appearances this term.
Zemura was brought to the Vitality Stadium by Howe in the summer of 2019 as a free agent from Charlton. The report suggests that West Ham are the Zimbabwe international’s main suitors. Newcastle’s interest appears to be peripheral at the moment as their top targets remain in play.

Comment #161I know Trippier would never let his country down but it would be good at his age if he would retire! Really just want him available for us he isn’t anywhere near first choice for England now so just leave him to rest up
Longstaff does seem like he could be ready for a call up similar to Rice or Henderson in that he is rarely spectacular but just gives out solid 6 or 7/10 every week its that consistency why they have been so good dependable
Its taken Sean a while to get that which is maybe why Southgate would still be reluctant but there is no denying he is performing better than most English midfielders in his position some of the little passes he pings about now have to double check its not Bruno playing them haha
I think Bruno has been great for the development of some of our players the way he shields the ball you can tell Willock and Longstaff have watched him and now they are able to turn players and win fouls or make space

Comment #162Out of the midfielders we have at the club , of the regular 1st teamers , i think Willock has the biggest potential to improve and i can see him playing for England at some point, unfortunately i can`t see that happening for SL, though i would love him to get a call up.
I don`t know if it`s just me but Bruno seems a bit off atm, maybe it`s his ankle that is still hampering his play but he doesn`t seem right.
I haven`t watched lot of Forest lately but i know they have a good home record so i`m going for a draw, hoping for a win obviously.
On a side note, it was that cold last night i had to prise the car door open after my shift, spring is a long way off so keep ya long johns handy.

Comment #163Vask – looks like I’m getting hospitality tickets to the PGA Championship at Wentworth in September so that will be a lot cheaper!

Comment #164I’m not sure Lobby has the mental strength to play for england and a below par debut could very well set him back mentally. He struggled badly playing for newcastle and his mental issues are well documented as he shared them with the world.
Lobby is great where he is and playing where he is and enjoying the good head space where he’s at right now…IMO we dont want him having a set back in his england debut that sets him back mentally as well.
Plenty time for him to make the next move…but not now IMO

Comment #165Someone asked about the young lad who figured for us in pre season friendlies and I wrongly said Lucas De Bolle, it actually was Matty Bondswell who I believe is still with us in the U21s.
Well done the lasses!

Comment #166These are Euro qualifiers, right? So Southgate needs to select played a win those games. Henderson could be there for his experience, plus Rice and Mount are excellent players (despite their clubs being below par this season). JWP is a good midfielder but his key strength is his set pieces for sure. As for Phillips, a very good midfielder and would like to see him getting regular games at PL level.
Actually some of the players I thought would be options (like Billing and March) are either not English or play out wide.
Bellingham is an amazing player but it’s not great for England if there are no outstanding candidates in central midfield beyond him. Maddison probably my favoured option.
