Howe Provides Another Potential Selection Hint Ahead Of Forest Trip

During his press conference for Wolves, Eddie Howe raved about Jacob Murphy’s contributions this term. The winger has appeared in every league match though generally as an impact substitute.

Howe hinted that Murphy was in line for a start saying:

“I think he’s done very well off the bench this year but that’s not to say that’s his sole role. He’s done well when he’s come on in the last few games and that’s not lost on me.

“He’s pushing to start and there’s no doubting his qualities.”

That proved to not be lip service as Murphy was in the starting eleven on the right wing replacing Miguel Almiron who had previously started every league match.

Murphy got the job done with a solid display in his first start since the FA Cup defeat at Hillsborough in January. Almiron was not to be outdone as he took on the super sub role with a late match winner.

That sets up some intrigue heading into the match at Nottingham Forest on Friday. Will Jacob retain his place or will Miggy resume duties down the right flank?

Howe has provided some further speculative fodder with the following comment to The Chronicle about Almiron:

“I would not say he’d had a tough six weeks. I think he has been excellent.

“Maybe he hasn’t had the goals he had earlier in the season, but by his high standards that is very difficult to replicate on a consistent basis.

“I just felt a rest and a refresh of him would do him the world of good.”

Howe’s team selection will again be a point of intrigue. He made five changes to spur the first win since January. Whether he’ll continue that trend or reward the eleven who downed Wolves remains to be seen.

I said before I don’t think we need to worry about Spurs it’s Brighton are the team that are on us

De Zerbi is another top coach you could argue they are a couple of years ahead of their development than us as they had Potter before rather than Bruce!!

Even when they do get injuries they just chuck another young player in who does the business very scary!!Playing with no fear either

Would actually be amazing if both of us pipped Man Utd and Spurs to 3rd and 4th

Brighton are playing some lovely footy atm…much like us if I’m honest…they pass through the opposition with single touch footy at speed and Macallister is right on his game atm.

Will be a good game when we play them for sure

I think what we definitely can, 100% credit Ashworth with is the seamless way that Brighton seem to have players and managers leave and others come in to take their place. It was him that identified Potter and put in a system where, if he left that another manager with similar ideas would take over all the players. The cog that connects all the spokes. We have all that to come.

Iv always wondered why with all the profits Brighton have made through player sales why they have never signed a couple of top end strikers!
IMO that is the only thing they have been short of for the last 4 seasons, a really solid outfit!

Its a crazy one a lot of their big forward signings have been expensive flops!! Mapuay Izercido didn’t do great and they still play welbeck as well

But yeah young Ferguson and Mitoma look like the kind of goal scorers who produce they have been missing which is why they are doing better

Yeah I totally agree but I’m amazed they haven’t gone for a good established striker,it really is the only thing they have been missing!
The owners may be happy with the current positions & no desire to attempt to push further?

It’s hard for a team like Brighton to sign any top player, let alone a striker. They’re not in Europe and won’t pay top wages. If they get into Europe for next season, anyone joining them knows that it will be hard to qualify for Europe again. They’re doing brilliantly spotting up and coming talent who then develop at the club.

I suppose you could say Brighton haven’t really been a fashionable club until the last 2 or 3 seasons

I mean even when they came up with us the football they played under Hughton was horrible in the end

I remember reading an article about Ashworth chasing Nunez twice and losing out before he eventually went to Liverpool so it does look like they have always been in for players but just haven’t been able to pull it off

Their owner Bloom is also a very smart guy and what they are doing is working

I mean this could be the summer where they can finally sign a few established guys but I actually think they will just continue the way they have unearthing gems except they will be at the front of the queue for a lot of players especially because De Zerbi will have a list of guys he will want also
