Reports Names Top Targets Ahead Of Transformational Summer Window

Newcastle are planning up to six additions in the summer according to the latest from Chris Waugh in The Athletic. On the agenda are a left-back, a right-footed center-back, a defensive midfielder, another number 8, and two versatile forwards.

The top target remains Leicester City’s James Maddison, who could potentially fill the number 8 or versatile attacker roles. Newcastle are expected to make a serious push for the 26-year-old this summer as he enters the final year of his contract.

Other familiar midfielders Waugh cites are Manchester United’s Scott McTominay, Ajax’s Edson Alvarez, and Brighton’s Moises Caicedo, though the Ecuadorian is considered a longshot with other top clubs in pursuit.

Three left-backs are also named with Arsenal’s Kieran Tierney seemingly the preferred target. Howe reportedly is a long-time admirer of the Scotland nternational. Fulham’s Antonee Robinson and Nottingham Forest loanee Renan Lodi are also thought highly of.

Up front, it appears Howe wants some more young hybrid wide forwards à la Anthony Gordon. Athletic Club’s Nico Williams is high on the list. In fact, he was considered during the January window. The 20-year-old has been watched extensively in recent years.

Newcastle have also watched Sheffield United attacker Iliman Ndiaye in recent weeks according to The Sun. The 23-year-old has had a standout campaign for The Blades, who are second in the Championship.

Internal discussions are at an early phase while Newcastle try to secure a European place. Seventh should be enough to seal a ticket to the Europa Conference League with Howe hoping to have plenty of squad depth for his second full season in charge.

Funny old catch up yesterday with the Dayvan/Fenners h2h carrying over into the a.m. and then the menacing, “Are you there?????” comment from Fenners in the evening.
    😀

Anyway, let’s have a sing along with Glen Campbell….

    https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=8kAU3B9Pi_U

I’ve been reading this blog so long
Where some can’t see that they’re wrong
I’ve read all the craic and all the well worn cliches
Where banter is the name of the game
And some posters get shouted down again and again
    There’s trouble on the horizon
    Which really ain’t surprisin’
Cos there’s a man who’s calling it out for what he sees

    He’s the Dayvan Cowboy
Serving it up to Fenners better than anyone I’ve ever known
    He’s the Dayvan Cowboy
Getting hearts and plaudits from people he don’t even know
But not from yer man Coming Home

How will Fenners now take the strain
Will he want to go fighting again
He’ll take you down if you yank his chain and don’t see it his way
Will he decide now to offer you
A high noon meeting and most likely a taste of his shoe
    There’ll be no more apologisin’
    He’s a thug and there’s no denyin’
So Dayvan, I’d watch my step if I was yee

    He’s the Dayvan Cowboy….

    😀

We need someone and a few more to keep pushing upwards. Maddison is a start.

Should have waited for the bus!

Someone asked about the young lad who figured for us in pre season friendlies and I wrongly said Lucas De Bolle, it actually was Matty Bondswell who I believe is still with us in the U21s.

    Well done the lasses!

Summer window opens in June so plenty of time for rumours and speculation.

I’ll be surprised if we sign any of those mentioned in this thread! 🙂

    @Essex

Yeah it was me who was asking about Bondswell! Thought he looked decent in pre season and assumed he would be getting loaned out this season?Haven’t really followed his progress so difficult to know if he is going to develop further

You know the more I think about it I bet the Tierney rumours have something about them Howe did try to sign him when he was at Celtic but he didn’t want to move to Bournemouth

But for me his fitness issues are always a worry

A big No to Scott McTominay. Too slow and we already have as good/better. Not sure about Kieran Tierney. Good player but seems to spend a lot of time injured. There is no rush except to sign good players before someone else does imo.

In amongst all the trashy, banal, brainless and sh-te reality TV nonsense and pulp, how refreshing to see was the last episode of Endeavour. Off topic but had to be said, absolutely stunning piece of TV drama.

Anyway, just to show that it’s top dog in producing drama, I’d imagine you’re delighted that the Beeb’s giving us Death in Paradise and its sequel Beyond Paradise on the same night.

Another gem that highlights the reality of a certain poster’s behaviour over the last 18 or so months.

But having been doled out some of his own medicine, he had the nerve to cry foul. Then to top it all, he pops up to ask whether Dayvan’s around to continue their exchange!

Has the man no shame, no self awareness?? Clearly not.

Lesh, have I missed something, where did he pop up asking if I was around?….. Living in his bawldy head rent free it would seem, I mean, I’m sure I’d made it pretty clear that I’m not into meeting up in random car parks for a fumble about, I’m an open minded chap, but dogging in dimly lit carparks doesn’t do it for me, but hey whatever floats Fenners sinking boat.

Lesh, awww bless him, nice to know I was on his mind all day while he was slaving away at work, but I’d say that kind of proves the point regarding him being “un-satisfied” at home doesn’t, if the poor chap has clocked off work and the first thing he’s done is stumble onto the blog looking for yours truly, any normal person would kick their shoes off, kiss the Mrs, grab and drink and get settled in for night ahead, not old bawldy heed though, you’ve got to feel sorry for him really.

We’ve a nearish neighbour who has a Pug and it’s a normally a crusty little thing when faced with other dogs. But, when he comes across our Cavalier, it might as well be rolling on it’s back.
