Newcastle travel to Nottingham Forest this evening for a chance at two straight victories. Taking another three points into the looming international break would be a very satisfying result.
Newcastle got back to winning ways against Wolves last weekend. Eddie Howe made five changes for that match. While there are some questions on fitness, I suspect Howe will name the following unchanged eleven for tonight.
Howe expects to have the majority of his squad available. He will be without at least three players through injury and suspension. Both Calum Wilson and Fabian Schar appear to be struggling for full fitness.
With time to recover afterward, both should be available with Schar resuming his partnership with Sven Botman. Wilson was a substitute against Wolves after missing training last week. I suspect that will again be the case tonight.
Leaving Miguel Almiron out again could be controversial. The Paraguayan started every league match prior to last weekend’s. He came on as an impact sub and grabbed a late winner. Jacob Murphy played well and could keep his place with Howe hoping for late heroics again from Miggy.
Newcastle are in decent shape injury-wise barring any undisclosed issues. Forest, on the other hand, have significant problems with many players ruled out. Chris Wood is ineligible per the terms of his January transfer.
Newcastle Injuries
Emil Krafth (knee), Anthony Gordon (ankle), Joelinton (suspension), Harrison Ashby (hamstring)
Nottingham Forest Injuries
Willy Boly (thigh), Scott McKenna (thigh), Taiwo Awoniyi (groin), Dean Henderson (thigh), Giulian Biancone (knee), Omar Richards (calf), Wayne Hennessey (knee),
Chris Wood (ineligible), Brennan Johnson (groin – fitness test), Cheickou Kouyate (thigh – fitness test)
Our poll reveals plenty of optimism heading into the match. Almost 80% of respondees are predicting another win. Three points would help further cement Newcastle’s claim for a European place by season’s end.

It’s a great accompaniment to chip shop tucker.
Fentimen’s does a lovely botanical brew.
Obviously you’re more likely to get a Barr or Shaw’s version out of a chippy fridge though.
I wonder how difficult it is to make ones own.

I’m glad they lost him. I’m not sure the last few years would have been the same for them had they not lost him to RM.

Comment #26My colleague at work is Forest fan and reckons we’ll beat them 3-1. In his word:
“Forest are just shite at the moment”
So he’s not very confident 🙂
I’m going 2-0, if Johnson is out for them then I fail to see how they’ll break us down well enough to score. Isak to bag another and I think Willock will push on from his great performance last week by bagging a goal too.

Comment #29Afternoon all. I read somewhere that Wilson and longstaff weren’t on any of the training photos this week? I have a feeling longstaff may drop out and Anderson maybe in. If schar has foot complaints then lacelles no probs to step in based on his man city performance and also a good threat at set pieces. Other than that I hope as you were vs wolves with St Max, Isak and murph with miggy off the bench if it stays 0-0 in the 2nd half and gets stretched. Would love to see willock score one (or three) today.

Comment #31I think we will win 0-2 tonight. Forest are energetic but also hectic and open at the back. I see the pace of our front three being crucial on the counter because Forest will come at us, especially as they are at home.
I’d quite like to see Targett get some minutes, maybe as a sub at around 50. The problem is that there’s usually little reason to sub a defender unless they’re having a howler or injured. Midfield/attack there’s always a need for fresh legs. But I’d like to see Targett brought back in gradually. I think BDB has done a great job but he’s not a LB and our attacks down the left would be better with more attacking support from LB

Comment #32Ottawa, I spent my formative years living all over the place in either Benwell or Scotswood. I went to Denton Road school, then Rutherford. Spent most of my life living at my grans on Armstrong Road near where it crossed Whitehouse Road, but we lived in the Sutton Dwellings, Benwell Dene Terrace, Canning Street, and Guiness Trust Estate.

Comment #35When I say I went to Rutherford, attendance was considered optional? Most of the time I was supposed to be there I was doing a garden for a pensioner for a few quid, or nicking pie’s out of the bakery in Blaydon. I wasn’t a very nice child with hindsight.
