Newcastle At Nottingham Forest – Team Prediction, Injuries, And Fan Expectations

Newcastle travel to Nottingham Forest this evening for a chance at two straight victories. Taking another three points into the looming international break would be a very satisfying result.

Newcastle got back to winning ways against Wolves last weekend. Eddie Howe made five changes for that match. While there are some questions on fitness, I suspect Howe will name the following unchanged eleven for tonight.

Howe expects to have the majority of his squad available. He will be without at least three players through injury and suspension. Both Calum Wilson and Fabian Schar appear to be struggling for full fitness.

With time to recover afterward, both should be available with Schar resuming his partnership with Sven Botman. Wilson was a substitute against Wolves after missing training last week. I suspect that will again be the case tonight.

Leaving Miguel Almiron out again could be controversial. The Paraguayan started every league match prior to last weekend’s. He came on as an impact sub and grabbed a late winner. Jacob Murphy played well and could keep his place with Howe hoping for late heroics again from Miggy.

Newcastle are in decent shape injury-wise barring any undisclosed issues. Forest, on the other hand, have significant problems with many players ruled out. Chris Wood is ineligible per the terms of his January transfer.

Newcastle Injuries

Emil Krafth (knee), Anthony Gordon (ankle), Joelinton (suspension), Harrison Ashby (hamstring)

Nottingham Forest Injuries

Willy Boly (thigh), Scott McKenna (thigh), Taiwo Awoniyi (groin), Dean Henderson (thigh), Giulian Biancone (knee), Omar Richards (calf), Wayne Hennessey (knee),
Chris Wood (ineligible), Brennan Johnson (groin – fitness test), Cheickou Kouyate (thigh – fitness test)

Our poll reveals plenty of optimism heading into the match. Almost 80% of respondees are predicting another win. Three points would help further cement Newcastle’s claim for a European place by season’s end.

    TDs

Feckin Ian Woman he only seemed to score against us. In fact I wouldn’t be surprised if they were his only two career goals.

He’s part of their coaching set now I believe.

I lived at Delaval Gardens and went to Delaval Road school. Then we move to Park Road. Went to Westmorland Road school and St Paul’s. Denton rings a bell. We used to go to Denton Dean to play after the cinema. Life was very simple back in the 50s.

    niafron,
We have a French friend, the girl we’ve had round ours the last few Christmases, she just happens to be in Paris at the same time as us and we’ve got some kind of dinner at a couple of her friends we’ve had round at ours one time, hopefully that’s early afternoon and I can get away around four giving me an hour to get wherever you are.

Wow some dodgy addresses in the West End mentioned earlier.
Places where you would not want to be stranded. If your motor broke down in those places the AA or the RAC would refuse to turn out in case they were mugged.
    Even worse after dark.

I don’t get why people are always so cocky, saying we are going to win. No easy games out there and our recent inability to hit a barn door, Wolves excepted, is a concern. Didn’t Forest just hold city to a 1-1 draw.

There is an excellent piece on nufc.com about the last time we faced Forest away in the league. I’d almost forgotten it. I bet Shelvey hasn’t 🙂

Took the lead when down to 10 men

Played entire 2nd half with nine men (both red cards later rescinded as they were nonsense)

    Darlow saved 2 second penalties

Lost to 86th minute own goal from Lascelles

I was wondering why you said we need to win our last ten of thirteen to get into a cl place.

First, I consider that a near impossibility. We’ll maybe win seven games.

But, I kind of see what you mean. Average haul for fourth has been 71 points. To reach that we need 27 points, or 9 wins, not counting our customary draws.

But, then again a team has won the whole thing with just 75 points in the past.

So, what am I saying? This year it’s very competitive. More than I can remember. There will be fewer points by the top four teams, more points by those following, all the way to position 20.

Ie. We, or whoever ends up in 4th won’t need that many points.

    Maybe 😉

Referee: Steve Martin (Staffordshire). Just like his namesake, a complete and utter comedian.

Martin joins Trelford Mills, Brian Coddington and Uriah Rennie in our refereeing hall of shame – really, he was that bad.

PS: After receiving some abusive tweets intended for the English Steve Martin, the rather more famous American Steve Martin commented on Friday evening that:

“Evidently, there’s someone who’s a bad referee with my name, and now there are thousands of English who won’t go see my films anymore.

Absolutely brilliant that we had a Hollywood A-lister tweeting about a shit ref in the UK. 😆

Obviously it helps massively that we’ve been so good this season and are fighting towards the top end, but in general this has been a super interesting season.

Relegation battle has 12 teams in it separated by only 5 points. Top 4 has about 6 or 7 teams fighting it out to get those spots and every team is having spells of good form and then dips or surprise results. Arsenal and Man City are going toe to toe and you just know there’ll be another twist in that at some point.

Been a really entertaining season so far and there’s no telling how things are going to end. Anything can still happen!

I think Trelford Mills was still the biggest hate figure. I remember every time I saw him return to SJP after THAT Brighton cup. Booed onto the pitch. After being at the infamous cup game, I came away convinced we needed full time professional refs as it felt as though at least one of their number was taking bungs.

There are good reasons for optimism tonight, provided we have our shooting boots on! Our opponents were poor in their last home match and dire in their loss to Spurs.
We showed some excellent touches against Wolves and hopefully will take this momentum into the game.
There are 7 crucial games in April. Come on the lads!

Countdown underway and i’m feeling a bit more positive than for awhile after Wolves display ( especially first half)

I can’t help feel that whilst in the main it was due to our revitalised attack Wolves did give us unexpected space at times

Tonight I was thinking that Forest will come at us as they’re at home but if Johnson isn’t in and no Wood I think it leaves Dennis and Surridge neither of whom are prolfic. They have Gibbs -White and Yates who are useful and of course Jonjo

Beginning to think that if Henderson (GK) is still out and with other defensive injuries Cooper might just look to be more compact and let us have more possession and invite us to break them down even though at home just as they did at SJP – frustrating us for long spells even though we should have been out of sight by half time

A draw wouldn’t be bad result for them with their next 2 games against Wolves and Leeds

We need to start like we did on Sunday AND take our chances

2023 has been a learning curve for team after Leeds Bournemouth Crystal Palace and even Fulham

Can we handle having greater possession and away from home and also make more from set pieces and corners ? we’ll get a chance to see tonight I reckon

Not one for scores prediction but if we play at our best i am hoping for a win by more than 1 🙂
