Newcastle travel to Nottingham Forest this evening for a chance at two straight victories. Taking another three points into the looming international break would be a very satisfying result.
Newcastle got back to winning ways against Wolves last weekend. Eddie Howe made five changes for that match. While there are some questions on fitness, I suspect Howe will name the following unchanged eleven for tonight.
Howe expects to have the majority of his squad available. He will be without at least three players through injury and suspension. Both Calum Wilson and Fabian Schar appear to be struggling for full fitness.
With time to recover afterward, both should be available with Schar resuming his partnership with Sven Botman. Wilson was a substitute against Wolves after missing training last week. I suspect that will again be the case tonight.
Leaving Miguel Almiron out again could be controversial. The Paraguayan started every league match prior to last weekend’s. He came on as an impact sub and grabbed a late winner. Jacob Murphy played well and could keep his place with Howe hoping for late heroics again from Miggy.
Newcastle are in decent shape injury-wise barring any undisclosed issues. Forest, on the other hand, have significant problems with many players ruled out. Chris Wood is ineligible per the terms of his January transfer.
Newcastle Injuries
Emil Krafth (knee), Anthony Gordon (ankle), Joelinton (suspension), Harrison Ashby (hamstring)
Nottingham Forest Injuries
Willy Boly (thigh), Scott McKenna (thigh), Taiwo Awoniyi (groin), Dean Henderson (thigh), Giulian Biancone (knee), Omar Richards (calf), Wayne Hennessey (knee),
Chris Wood (ineligible), Brennan Johnson (groin – fitness test), Cheickou Kouyate (thigh – fitness test)
Our poll reveals plenty of optimism heading into the match. Almost 80% of respondees are predicting another win. Three points would help further cement Newcastle’s claim for a European place by season’s end.

Comment #82For anyone not familiar or can’t remember Henry Lansbury. We played Forest away on a Friday, all game he cheated and dove, he got Shelvey and Dummet sent off with play acting, can’t remember if it was him who missed the pens as well. At the final whistle he celebrated like he’d won the league despite his cheating reducing us to nine men. He somehow managed to be ‘injured’ for the return fixture so we thought we’d never see him again. As fate would have it he signed for Villa and couldn’t swerve the game at his new club. He got serious stick all night but midway through the second half a corner came in, he was on the near post and some comical defending saw him score an own goal. You couldn’t write it. It was sheer bliss as 50K Geordies sang in unison “Henry Lansbury is a w@nker is a……”

PL relegation battle is very tight and up to12th place
Other clubs have already pulled trigger on their managers and Palace knowing can’t now change players then play only other card available
They clearly do need some momentum which for whatever reason Viera hasn’t been able to change this year
Will it work? Not sure but clearly fans are looking for something better especially when they look at other London club like Brentford and Fulham and some worrying improvements at Bournemouth and Southampton
Not a fan of Palace but do like Viera – see what he does next

Yes Lansbury missed the 2nd pen, and of course got all the stick when with Villa. It all came back to me after seeing that article.

Comment #88Speaking of Sarsaparilla, a group of us would go into a chemist on Gateshead high street after training with Gateshead Harriers and get his own brewed version and it we bloody loverly.
As for Guinness it is a drink that grows on you, wasn’t to keen on it once but love it now.
1st time I really sampled it properly was in the back of a shop in Ireland, where it took some time to pour from a barrel! 🙂

Comment #92Back in the 50’s Benwell was a safe and decent place to live. I was visiting in 77 and all of the nice big houses on Park Road had been torn down and replaced with some kind of row/terrace housing. Looked like real slums and obviously the whole area went downhill from then on. Don’t know what it’s like now.

Comment #107When the house was pulled down in Benwell (65-66) we got shifted to Cowgate.
Benwell was a closed shop to outsiders, people in those days really looked after each other, they had too, nobody had 2 bob to rub together.
Once got picked up by the Police, I was walking the streets and the bobbie took me home, the bobbie came back later with a pair of shoes for me.
Cowgate was like dodge, even as bairns you learnt to keep yourself to yourself, very different to Benwell.

Comment #1082. 0 tonight and a comfortable win.
Isak and Bruno will score.
Interesting article in Juventus press that we might sway Isak for Vlahovic. We would add cash I suppose.
Not sure about it. Isak showed real quality last game. Easily his best game until wrongly taken off after 70. He may just be starting to get into his stride. I think most fans would take the Serb but I am not so sure

Comment #109I thought it was the Aussies that called the British Poms? It’s reference to Australia’s past as a convict colony I thought ?
It’s the first time I’ve heard an Irish person label a Brit a Pom?

Comment #111I would swap Isak for Haaland but I doubt City would swap. 39 goals in 37 games and most games he gets taken off after 70. Imagine trying to get Shearer off with a couple of goals to his name after 70 mins. If Haaland played 90 every game he would be nearer 50 goals. A decent player

“Pom” comes from pomegranate, which was used as particularly tenuous rhyming slang for “immigrant”. But most Australians call the English poms (or whinging poms) without thinking about the origin of the term. Detailed answer: Australians have long used “pom” as a nickname for English people, to the point where most can’t even remember why.

Comment #118Loving the recollections of Benwell. I lived there from 1957 – 72 when I left to marry our lass.
It’s where I first drank alcohol, first sang in church choir, got confirmed, joined scouts (briefly), taught young uns at Sunday School, learned to dance (properly) @ Bill & Betty’s in Atkinson Road, had my 1st smoke, 1st paper round, 1st girlfriend, 1st run in with Police (despite my Dad being one), 1st match with mates instead of Dad, 1st job, 1st got laid, 1st getting paralytic, in fact most of my significant 1st’s were achieved in Benwell, it has a lot to answer for. 😀

I think Neil is correct with the line up it will be as you were – the possible exceptions could be Almiron coming in Murphy and/or Lascelles coming in for Schar given he is reported as injured for Switzerland (but of course that might not be 100% true)
My main recollection of us vs Forest is from our first Ashley season in the Championship. I had a Forest supporting mate staying with me for that game. I remember him being genuinely really scared about being an away fan in the home end (the seats I got us were in Platinum Club ffs!) and me telling him it will be fine mate just don’t wear Forest colours or get overexcited if your lot score. Once we got to Newcastle he was panicking about going into pubs in toon especially Shearers once we got to SJP, again I told him nothing to worry about – people here are really friendly unless you behave like a total cretin. As we went to our seats he told me how surprised he was that I was right everyone was really friendly and he had really enjoyed the day so far. He didn’t enjoy the game so much though, he spent most of it muttering obscenities at me as NUFC cruised to a 2-0 win.
🙂

You nicked my thing!!! I always predict a Botman goal as sooner or later I will be correct. I will let you have it this week though as I fancy an Isak hat-trick not least cos I put him in my FPL team.
