Newcastle To Push For Previous Targets This Summer

Leicester City playmaker James Maddison reportedly tops Newcastle’s target list for what is shaping up to be an exciting summer. The 26-year-old will enter the final year of his contract this summer with hopes dwindling at the King Power of him extending his stay.

This summer could be the perfect time for Newcastle to finally land the talented midfielder. Incidentally, Maddison joins Kieran Trippier and Nick Pope in the England squad for the upcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers against Italy and Ukraine.

Maddison is not the only long-term target who could again come into play this summer. 90min is reporting that Leverkusen remains a firm hunting ground for the Magpies with no shortage of linked talent.

The report claims that Moussa Diaby and Mitchel Bakker are on the agenda for potential summer moves. Diaby was considered the preferred wide target last summer while Bakker was a target in January 2022.

It’s no surprise Diaby remains high on the wishlist. The winger has refound his form under Xabi Alonso after a slow start to the season. Leverkusen could be more open to selling him after stumbling in this campaign.

Bakker is an interesting player. The 22-year-old is an attacking left-back with no shortage of passion. He would be a fan favorite at St. James’ Park though Howe would have to rein in some of his destructive tendencies.

The U21 Netherlands international has excelled under Alonso, who loves for his fullbacks to push forward. Bakker has responded scoring 3 goals under Alonso after managing just 1 in his Leverkusen career previously.

In related news, Sven Botman has been called up for the full Netherlands squad. He had featured a few times in the U21s backline alongside Bakker. So if Eddie Howe wants any inside information on Bakker, Sven could be the man to ask.

cyprus, I wonder how they select the successful applicants, will it be from word of mouth at first to find out whether they’re blagging their CV or not then Ashworth flying out to do the interviews.

Yes I think that was it Hodgkins Park. I remember my brother falling of the monkey bars (as we called them) and cutting his head. Got on the bus across the road and took him to hospital to get stitches. The things we kids could do on our own.

You’ll be happier when he’s off the wage bill in the summer rather than tied in to another deal.

I think if Jonjo plays against us he is going to have a shocker, lots of misplaced passes, caught in possession frequently get frustrated and carded (possibly seeing red)

Actually pretty sureI read on the forest forum I was on yesterday that Forest haven’t won when Shelvey has started.

I think this summer is going to blow us away in terms of recruitment. SAUDIA in June the 1st 4 trophy signings by July 1st. One more mid summer and one late on in the summer when the market goes mad.

G did you lot have the least scary gangs in England? Pendowers? Dumpling Hall ffs? Scotchy upstarts? Bells Close?

Jesus Christ ye’d have been hung and skinned in Limerick 🙂

Reminds me of the time we beat England years ago in rugby. Our 3 front row guys were called Woody Claw and Bull. England had something like Adrian Peter and Jeremy 🙂

The only reason Eddie have have been unhappy would be limited time to source a replacement. Fact is EH could have forced the issue and kept him even if Shelvey wanted to go but he didn’t do that.

Haha, indeed Munster. It was just the names of the neigbourhoods mate. Scotchy was just an abreviation of Scotswood. To be fair I did a few pre Storemont tours in your neck of the woods, and the names of some the areas I was working in sounded delightfull, until you found yourself in them!

Yes, once by accident! We were doing a plain clothes recce near Strabane, and the driver Frankie decided he knew a short cut near Castlederg. I noticed we’d crossed the River Foyle, and the border and Frank wouldn’t believe me until we passed a parked up Garda car! If we’d been stopped by them it would have been a big incident as we were tooled up to 11 with firearms!

It just stand to reason Munster. The club could have refused to let him leave but didn’t. I also said they probably tried to get a replacement but couldn’t which may not have pleased Howe. I dont see how what you are saying is so different from what I am saying aside from the fact that I point out we could have refused to sell but didn’t.

In a way ai would prefer 2-0 as we keep a clean sheet then but I have a feeling Forest will have a goal in them, their defense is dodgy though so I see us scoring 3. To be fair any win will do.
