Leicester City playmaker James Maddison reportedly tops Newcastle’s target list for what is shaping up to be an exciting summer. The 26-year-old will enter the final year of his contract this summer with hopes dwindling at the King Power of him extending his stay.
This summer could be the perfect time for Newcastle to finally land the talented midfielder. Incidentally, Maddison joins Kieran Trippier and Nick Pope in the England squad for the upcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers against Italy and Ukraine.
Maddison is not the only long-term target who could again come into play this summer. 90min is reporting that Leverkusen remains a firm hunting ground for the Magpies with no shortage of linked talent.
The report claims that Moussa Diaby and Mitchel Bakker are on the agenda for potential summer moves. Diaby was considered the preferred wide target last summer while Bakker was a target in January 2022.
It’s no surprise Diaby remains high on the wishlist. The winger has refound his form under Xabi Alonso after a slow start to the season. Leverkusen could be more open to selling him after stumbling in this campaign.
Bakker is an interesting player. The 22-year-old is an attacking left-back with no shortage of passion. He would be a fan favorite at St. James’ Park though Howe would have to rein in some of his destructive tendencies.
The U21 Netherlands international has excelled under Alonso, who loves for his fullbacks to push forward. Bakker has responded scoring 3 goals under Alonso after managing just 1 in his Leverkusen career previously.
In related news, Sven Botman has been called up for the full Netherlands squad. He had featured a few times in the U21s backline alongside Bakker. So if Eddie Howe wants any inside information on Bakker, Sven could be the man to ask.

Comment #84Interesting McGovern followed Cough at every step Hartlepool->Derby->Leeds->Forest (and in the period when Clough and Taylor were supposed to both go to Brighton Brighton tried to sign him but he didn’t want to take a step down)

Comment #86Shelvey is terrible, hope he plays.
Guaranteed win.
Young Anderson might get a go tonight.
Lets see what hes got. Exactly why Shelvey was let go.
Perfect game for him with Bruno and Willock. Forest are poor and cud still go down.
Wouldnt expect Jonjo on the teamsheet personally.

To your question, I don’t know how they’ll be recruiting scouts. Past record I presume.
I like the way Ketspaia was first recruited, pretty cool, he can confirm if he’s around.
The ex president of Anorthosis, his first breakthrough club told me this. They went to Georgia, asked around, “who’s the best young player here”, everyone gave the same name, Ketspaia.
So they contacted the lad. That’s how you recruit!
Go to Uruguay, say, ask around, you got your answer!
Amanda, I know the best young player in Cyprus. Contact me via WorB. He big talent!

Comment #92Check, I agree and posted similar earlier. I am not worried if Shelvey plays I think he will try too hard. I can’t see him not getting carded.
Whether he does play is a different question, Forest have not won when he has started.

Jonjo was let go because Eddie gave way to his wishes and Board couldn’t turn down a “good ” offer – he would have gone in Summer anyway probably for less
Both he and Wood were good financial deals at time but of course were a gamble
Right call for us and players given situation – just hope doesn’t come back and bite us tonight 🙂

Not Shelvey, he’d have triggered an extension if he’d stayed and we’d have him for another year.

Comment #106Hopefully we come flying out the traps and catch them cold. A couple goals up early on would be super, manage the rest of the game and give minutes to fringe players.

Comment #107Miggy is not in the Paraguay squad with their manager citing him be injured in training with us. Seems that one is more genuine than the case of Schar although Schar has appeared to be nursing a mild injury for a few weeks.

Even with an extension ( games related?) I think we would have looked to upgrade and there will be players in his position coming in meaning reduced starts if any
He needs to play regularly at this stage of his career and he was one of the players with a decent price we could use to upgrade

Comment #111Will be very boisterous atmosphere at City Ground tonight, so our players first and foremost need to handle that, and play football. Everyone has to work, including Maxi.

Comment #112My bet is 0-2. I’m a bit concerned as we aren’t doing clean sheets anymore.
As always, I’ll take any win.
In the first round, this was the game when we stamped our authority, total dominance throughout. They didn’t know what hit them, a rude welcome to the pl.
Show that vid Eddie.

Paraguay are “happy” with situation reportedly having seen video of traning injury and MRI scan
Not sure about Schar – maybe as Jail alludes to after WC he won’t be too concerned?
